I hope the mod's don't mind me started this - but I'm started to assemble a set of tips and tricks, some unique to Omnia (AFAIK) and others that just make working with it easier.
I'll post my tips as responses and use the title as the name of the tip, to make finding them easier. If there is a better way, let me know!
The Samsung Widgets are just another Today screen plugin. I'm keeping mine for now. I just wish they had a lot more of them - all the functionality and access you get in spB Pocket Plus.
EDIT: And P.S. WE NEED A MODERATOR TO MAKE THIS THREAD A STICKIE! In true vzw fashion, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!?

Mods? What mods? It almost seems like they've locked up shop, gone home, and not told anyone. If we're lucky, MRAILING will get tired of his Touch Pro, ditch it, and decide to be our moderator - he mentioned in the Touch Pro forum that he was keeping an eye out on the Omnia.
You look at the moderator profiles listed for this forum. ~All the ones I looked at dont' go with Verizon, a number have iPhones - that may partly explain why no moderator has appeared yet.
Plus being a moderator is a job for someone who has too much time on his/her hands and knows the guts of a WM device. Will someone please acknowledge that and step forward!! (ain't me)
In the \windows directory there is a file called welcomehead.96.png that is a 400x400 png file.
Create your favorite .png and name it something like welcomehead.96.txt, then copy to the \windows directory and rename the file to welcomehead.96.png using a file explorer like Total Commander (you can Google to find it).
Sub-tip: The display on the Omnia is only 240x400, even though the welcomehead is 400x400, so only the first 240 pixels will show, so center your image in the first 240 for the correct look.
Then, every time you soft-reset, that image will display.
Hold the "Call" key and the "End" key at the same time, then use the stylus to press the reset pin hole. Keep holding the keys until the Format screen pops up.
Other hard reset ways have been suggested, but this works for me everytime.
This is a great tweaking tool. I used it on my i760 and this version is updated to work on the Omnia.
Note: You need to also install .NET Compact Framework 3.5 to make it work.
I just found this little feature when poking around in every setting on the Omnia.
Settings > Buttons > Flashlight. With this enabled you can turn on the flash from the Today Screen by doing a long press on the Volume Button. Seems everyone wants a flashlight program...
Also, by default the "Mute when facedown" feature is turned off.
Settings > System > Motion Control > Etiquette. When this is enabled, setting the phone face down while on a call will Mute the phone and then UnMute when picked back up.

I'm going to go ahead and stick this thread. If you find others that you believe should be stickied, let me know.

As is always the case, Cache for web browsers can quickly eat up memory. After some research, I found how to move the Opera cache to another location.
Note: I updated these instructions as the \Application Data folder has two Opera folders (Opera and Opera9). The opera.ini is in Opera9
Also, I would suggest clearing your cache before moving to ensure all the old cache files get deleted.
1. Close Opera.
2. Create a folder on your storage card where the cache files will go.* I chose \Storage Card\Program Files\Opera\cache4, but I don't think the folder structure or folder name matter.
3. Open \Application Data\Opera9\opera.ini in a text editor.
4. In the [User Prefs] section, add the following line: Cache Directory4=[full path to folder on storage card].
5. Save and close opera.ini.
6. Restart Opera. Your cache is now being written to your storage card."
i just realized you can pretty much double press the touch screem on any screen and it will zoom in.
also pressing and holding the volume + key will zoom in too
anyone know how to force the keyboard to defauly to the samsung keypad? everytime i soft reset my phone it defaults back to the samsung keyboard and not the keypad.
i also wish there was a way to remap some of the softkeys and long presses, ive tried some 3rd party apps and reg hacks but no luck. id liek to see if i can chagne the long press of the END button and violume +
FM Radio doesn't need a Headset, Just the Headset Adapter Cord
To hear FM radio, you don't need to plug in a headset, just the 3.5 mm headset adapter cord. That can serve as an antenna by itself (Turn the speaker on in the FM Radio Menu).
So possibly, this leaves the Radio open to a hack for those who want to hear the audio in a BT headset. Redirect the output sent to the audio speakers to a BT port (don't know too much about BT).
My idea for organization. Post in a topic-specific thread. Put a link here in this thread and the topic in the title. The Tips and Tricks Thread will serve as an Index to detailed write-ups and coherent chains of discussion in Topic-Specific threads.
You get the link after you post from the #link in the upper right of your post. Only put "major" ideas in this thread. Leave the chitchat in the topic-specific thread.
Once you follow a link to a specific post, you can get the whole thread by clicking on the thread link appearing in the upper right of the specific post display.
IMPORTANT: Be Sure To Turn Off Widgets Before Installing Spb Mobile Shell
The Spb Mobile Shell makes the Omnia the classy machine you wanted.
Be sure to disable the Samsung Widget Plug-in before installing the Mobile Shell. Uninstall Spb Pocket Plus before installing Mobile Shell and reinstall it afterwards. OTHERWISE, you will lock up your phone something awful-hard reset time......????

Didn't know about that - BUT it will also mute an incoming ring when the phone rings!
Screen taking too long to reorient, seems frozen after rotating the device or picking the Omnia up in the wrong orientation for its current screen direction?
Just a single tap with finger or stylus anywhere on the screen or the frame of a window/bar (be careful what you hit!) seems to trigger immediate screen reorientation (may be described in the manual, which I haven't bothered reading yet).
(might be simply because of movement in going to tap screen or haptic feedback vibration once triggered kicks the accelerometer's butt - haven't figured it out, just use it)

Found another way to do this on HowardForums.
Step 2 would be the same, you still need to create a folder.
Otherwise type opera:config in address field and it opens all sorts of changes you can make. Go to Cache and change the directory so it points to your new folder. No text editting...
