one of the cool things i like about this phone that i never noticed in the i730 or i760 is the "USB connection" option in SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS.

you can basically set what you want the USB sync to do, either activesync or access the my storage or your storage card.

its great because vistas WMDC is very often flaky where active sync only works after a reboot and soemtimes i just want access to the storage card. basically changing this settigns to either sotrage card or my storage forces the computer to read the storage is a mass storage device like a usb thunmbstick. since i also bascially do all my activesync syncing over the air with my companys exchange server i really only use usb sync for moving files around anyway.

the only caveat is that when it is connected and you have it set to say "storage card" then while it is connected you wont see the storage avaialbel from the phone. you can only manage from the computer.

heres something else ive done that i like. this basically increases the space to compose a sms msg in threaded sms. by default the space is like maybe 1 or 2 lines worth, but with the reg hack you can increase to whatever you please. i changed it to 50 and it helps me tremendously now.

found it here: Tweaks - WinMo @ MoDaCo

Threaded SMS Input Space from theflipside

1. Open Total Commander
2. Browse to the "Windows" folder
3. Find the file: thread_sms.htm
4. Press to edit with the little notebook below from Total Commander

You will see the following HTML Code:

____________________________________
<html XMLNS:Inbox>

<head>
<object id="HTMLFormFactory" CLASSID="clsid:29d48cf7-ed6a-4a9d-a17a-ae9115c07a90" />
<?IMPORT NAMESPACE="Inbox" IMPLEMENTATION="#HTMLFormFactory" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="file://\windows\thread_style.css" type="text/css" />
</head>

<body>
<Inbox:ThreadIFrame>
<Inbox:content id="THREADIFRAME" links />
</Inbox:ThreadIFrame>

<div id="threadbottom">
<hr class="divider" size="1" />
<Inbox:ComposeBodyCount>
<Inbox:content ID="COMPOSEBODYCOUNT" format="%1!d!/%2!d!%4 (%3!d! messages)" title />
</Inbox:ComposeBodyCount>
<Inbox:ComposeSubject class="sms">
<Inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBJECT" width="98%" height=35 spell focus count links noclearonbackpresshold limit=0 autocap inserttab scroll />
</Inbox:ComposeSubject>
</div>

</body>

</html>
____________________________________

go and find:
<Inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBJECT" width="98%" height=35 spell focus count links noclearonbackpresshold limit=0 autocap inserttab scroll />

Replace the height "35" with "90" or what ever you like

I should also mention SPB Back-up does offer a desktop version which would allow you to sync your back-ups between your phone and pc without the need to have a storage card.
A further advantage of periodically backing up to your desktop is that it is possible both your phone and storage card are totally destroyed together. Sprite Mobile Backup v6.5 allows you to browse and extract files from your backup on your desktop. With Sprite, you can also FTP a backup from your handheld to a remote server location so you wouldn't have to count on your storage card or getting back to your PC (for most of us, it's not that mission-critical!).

Backing up to a storage card, however, can be scheduled to occur automatically and in my experience is faster than backing up to your PC (backing up 56.8 Mb to a card takes me 2 minutes with Sprite).

Nice find. It looks like that does away with the need for Card Export II that I had to pay $15 for back on previous WinMo devices. Unless anyone else knows of a difference or advantage to Card Export II?

Probably not a trick but I would like to know before I order it

1. Does the Omnia still sync with my Outlook 2003 on Windows XP via Activesync?

2. What is best way to migrate my programs and info from my SCH- i760 Wimno 6 not 6.1 to the Omnia? I have Sprite backup also.
Couldn't someone do a step by step sticky on migrating from a previous phone.

Here is the link with directions to install a free program that allows you to make your phone a wireless hotspot. Once its up and running you just search for available wireless networks on your laptop and voila.
edit: go to post #43 on the link

Turn off Data automatically or after a period of inactivity

Found this in a few places, but no on our site yet.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\

Blank out the "SuspendResume" entry.
Set "CacheTime" to "60". (60 seconds of inactivity)

^I had the same question also my cachetime was already 60.

I'm using resco explorer 2008 with the registry editor plugin and have yet to have an issue. It's really easy to use too.

[quote=johntchow;766431]i just realized you can pretty much double press the touch screem on any screen and it will zoom in.

I just discovered this as well, but quite accidentally - in an email message, if you double tap the body of the message, it will zoom, and an up-down scroll bar appears on the right. If you drag the scroll bar up and down, the screen will scale gradually from small to huge-sized type! The scoll bar fades away if you leave it alone. Double tap again to go back to the main view. Very nice!
I didn't find that buried anywhere in the docs, although I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere...

Delete the 1501, but you can keep the entry.

Also I'm not familiar with that Reg editor. I use PHM RegEdit

Launching selected PIM's from NOW screen in Spb Mobile Shell

Spb offers a plug-in to configure the calendar of the NOW screen to launch either Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion, or Agenda One. The API is available to other third-party PIM developers. Read about it here:

Not sure if this has been covered but in power settings there is a place to disable/enable wifi power saving mode. This allows you to keep the wifi on in sleep mode.
