I keep having trouble with my i730. It seems(i think) i'm doing everthing right but maybe someone can tell me otherwise. I have installed.
SD's Speed Utility (autostep)
MR's Phone Helper
Microsoft SQLCE 2.0
Microsoft . NET CF 2.0
MemMaid (new version)
Pocket Mechanic
Google Maps (awaiting my Freedom Mini GPS)
Spb Backup
Various programs and games (dont think I need to list these)
I hard reset using MR's guide and sure I did it correctly. I've never used RegEdit for fear of screwing up.
I tried Spb PocketPlus both Main and Safestore but it both ways seem to slow it down. I didnt try it when I had the speed utility but i will. When i flip open teh keypad it stays locked for a several seconds, when I get a call it seems to hang before i can answer it and as I write I cant think of anything else. I read that users have tons of apps loaded to Main and still have fast units and I dont get it? I load one Spb product and it slows up? I've used the DLL moving feature of MemMaid and also cache PIE, have also been moved out of Main. I have not played with the System Tweaks on MemMaid cause I dont know what I should do.
I've tried to load nothing onto Main expect Spb PocketPlus but deleted it anyway for now. The Google Map loads to Main even if I select Storage Card?
This forum has been a huge help and I'd be nowhere without you guys. I need to get my moneys worth out of this thing! I know I'm doind something wrong but just cant figure it out. I hope all this makes sense.
If you know anything I can do please reply and/or ask away.
I leave mine at 400, and I have about 10 times the software you have on my device. I soft reset a lot! But I don't have a speed lag. Are you saying your speed is great after a hard reset (before loading anything), but then slows noticably after installing stuff (such as pocket plus)? (also, do you have the latest v. of PPlus?)
I keep it at 416 and its starting to get better.
My Program free space is 33.69 & Storage is 39.05 free. Safestore has 2.37 (free)but that should not matter.
For those "..in the know" does this look right?
I only have PocketPlus, Auto Step, Railings tools, and Google showing in Main.
The only obvious thing you have different then me is the .NET 2.0, SQLCE and running less then 520mhz.
I had one i730 that would hang above 416, and even then it would hang. I didn't notice any real issues even at 416 compared to 520.
I recently had to hard reset my 730. My problems started the weekend I put Net 2 on it... Since the reset I have not put Net 2 back on it yet. I seem to be having much fewer issues. I am going to stay away from it now.
At this point I got what I need on it. no need to try and get fancy again, so as the ol say'n goes, if it aint broke don't fix it.
I found I would get lag if I installed things from my SD Card as opposed to via exes through ActiveSync. I realized the data on my SD Card got corrupted. Try installing everything from the PC through ActiveSync and see if that solves it. BTW I use SQLCE, NET CF, and MANY more softwares than you do. The only lag I get now is in the beginning when it loads all the stuff on my Today Screen. Other than that it works great. When was the last time you formatted your SD Card?
I install everything via ActiveSync, minus a couple of Cabs like SD Auto Step, MRailings tools, phone helper.
As far as formatting the SD card. I dont think I have? Its new as well a recent hard reset to start fresh and install Railings Tools, AutoStep for the first time.
now, the i730 hangs mostly when calls come in. I answer on the first ring and my caller tells me it rang 3~5 times. I also see the light come on and the icon at the top several seconds before it allows me to answer.
Thanks to ev1 for replying.
PS. Dominick, I sent you an email replying to your PM a couple of days ago.

Those were the same apps I was installing from the SD Card. I get a hang sometimes with the calls still but it's not as bad as yours. I think I get it because I have so much stuff on the Today Screen, but it's only delayed like half a ring to a full ring at worst..it's usually fine though. You sure you sent me a PM? I'm sorry man but I never received it. If you'd like try it one more time.
I think you need to install one thing, use the phone for a day or 2, then install the next item. This should help you narrow things down to what might be causing it.

I have exact same problem - phone is VERY slow for about 30 seconds after I take it out of the cradle. I did i730 CPU consumption testing:
results of i730 CPU consuption analysis while cradled, sharing internet connection, running ActiveSync and remote display/control
repllog.exe runs continiously and consumes ~20% of CPU
tmail.exe runs ocasionaly and consumes less than 10%
calnot.exe runs about ones an hour and consumes ~20%
device.exe runs when phone is first cradled and consumes ~30% or all available CPU time
device.exe runs when phone is uncradled and consumes ~60% or all available CPU time
filesys.exe runs about twice an hour and consumes ~%20-%30
filesys.exe runs when phone is uncradled and consumes ~70% or all available CPU time
I did a hard reset about a week ago and now I don't have this problem any more. I noticed that the phone is slow sometimes when I turn it on and try to use built-in notes application, but not as much - may be 3-5 seconds delay. I've reinstalled PdaNet so that's not the problem. I have not installed remote control application yet, so that might be it.
