Simultaneous Multi-button support?

Hi guys. I just bought this phone and I really like it, but I am very annoyed at something. The phone does not recognize simultaneous button taps. Is there a way to enable this/flash the firmware to enable this/does wm5 allow for this?

I am trying to play games and some are just impossible without multiple button support (simulateous press) Eg: Accelerate+Turn right isnt possible
Shoot and move isn't possible in call of duty... etc..

Any suggestions? Thanks.

It is my understanding that this is a hardware limitation and I have not heard of any work-arounds or "fixes" for this. It is unfortunate when it comes to gaming for sure - no Galaga or Wolfenstein 3D for me. se la i730

I knew about this before my purchase and it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker. I do like my games now and then and this is makes the i730 nearly useless for Action games, but there are many great Pocket PC games out there that don't require simultaneous button pressing.

I assume there must be a fav games thread here somewhere, but i haven't search for it yet.

I definitely want to try Virtual Pool (love it on the PC) - there are emulators as well, but again the button limitation is there - the only games I have right now are Ms. Pac Man, Snails (great Worms clone), and Pocket Sand.

Are you using Sling to play Call of Duty on your i730?
I love that game!
My player name is Von_Kramm.

AE BUTTON PLUS. You can assign up to four functions to each button. I've tried the other ones that are available, but this is the BEST button mapper by far! I can map practically everything to whatever button I want..Since I use up all the buttons for programs, not with Video Game controls, I don't know how it works with what you're looking for..but there is not only a regular common sense way to select functions for whatever button you want, but there are also virtual buttons you can create and map. From what I understand, you can even program functions to each of the buttons as well. I think it's worth checking out to see if it can do what you want it to.

I just got a Slingbox, and as I understand it, you can not only watch cable tv, but also get into your computer, or anything hooked up to your router or slingbox. I don't have Call of Duty, but I was just curious as to how you would do that...as I have other video games.

The lag time wouldn't allow play of any game over sling work. Unless the game was turn based, and worked with an IR port, as the control on the slingbox is done over an IR port. Mark, the Call of Duty that was being discussed above is a Pocket PC version of the game.

The i730 has been discussed numerous times in the past about it's game playing abilities on multiple button press games. Alas the i730 is not a preferred handheld for such games because it lacks multibutton support, and there is no way to enable it, especially for "Pocket PC" games that require it. There is no updates, no firmware, no hacks that can enable this. Search on here for "emulator" and "emulators" and you will find more threads on this subject...

No problem. I have a helicopter game that would definitely need that sort of support, as I can't land the thing to save hostages without going to settings changing the button, then changing it back. So if you can get AE Button to get it working let us know please. It's of the highest importance that you let me know asap as hostages lives are at stake

Pocket Pool is awesome man. Great game, and I find it is almost as relaxing and enjoyable as playing pool for real. I have Ago of Empires, Air Hockey, Worms (which I cant seem to figure out), Doom (ditto), Syberia, Scrabble (both of which I haven't tried yet), and Pacman. All great games. Can't comment on the ones I haven't figured out how to get working or tried. All the ones I use or have used don't require extra buttons to get working.

Is it just me, or did "pocket pool" mean something different back in the day, especially in elementary/middle/high school... I had to laugh at your sentence when I read it, and immature flashbacks of those words popped in my head...

I was just curious if you were referring to Virtual Pool PPC or http://pocketpool.co.uk/Default.aspx

I have Virtual Pool and I think it's fantastic - almost 100% port of PC version.

I love me some pool and I'll give the Pocket Pool beta a try I suppose, but being limited to the top-down view seems ... limiting. Is there another pool game to which you were referring?

It is an limitation, and there are no hacks for it, but that doesn't mean there can't be. The 6700 has the same problem, but emulamer came out with a hack for it (http://www.emulamer.com/6700kbfix.html). I wanted to write a similar hack a while back, hopefully being kicked off by getting the source code to the 6700 hack (which never happened), but I fell off the face of the earth and just started reading the forums again. I don't know that I particularly want to do this from scratch, but we'll see.

It is incorrect to say that it is a hardware limitation -- it is not, as can be clearly seen from the fact that the Fn and Shift keys support multi-press. If you hold down a random letter key, say A, in a note until it starts repeating, and then press, say, B while still holding A down, A will stop repeating, but B won't show up. However, holding down Shift and then hitting B gives you a capital B, just like a single press of Shift and B does. So either the keyboard controller is either dealing with different scan codes differently -- remarkably unlikely -- or we're dealing with a firmware/driver limitation that we just don't know where to look for yet.

As an alternative, there are bluetooth controllers you can use with the phone which allow multiple button presses; however, there seems to be a bit of delay when using those, so that twitch games can't really be played. I'm not sure if the delay is just a necessary consequence of its being bluetooth or if there are other reasons. I haven't had any luck finding a keyboard that'll plug in directly that works either; I tried the i700 keyboard, but didn't have any luck getting it to work.

Looking for something?

Gents: I managed to snag this from the author before he disappeared. It is the source code to the lovely utility for the 6700 which emulates multiple keypresses. It's a set of keyboard hooks to check against the hardware. It's for the pxa27x keyboard matrix, so it will likely need modification, but maybe someone could fix it up to give all us i730 users our action fix.
Sorry for the delay in getting this, It got lost in some shuffling...

damn, just when I settled on the phone. I need a PDA/Smartphone with no camera (no camera in secured work area). I thought I found the perfect one with the i730... but I like games, especially NES and Atari 2600 emulated ones. No Multi-button support could be a dealbreaker ...

Can you guys confirm this... does the i830 (without wifi) have this same multi-button support limitation that the i730 has?

Any progress on using the 6700 as a template to 'fix/workaround' this on either phone?

finally any suggestions on alternatives...(beyond scope of thread sorry).

Thanks in advance for any input!

I would love to see a work around for this as well! Any sharp programming minds out there willing and able to get this working for the i730?

HEY SUPERDAVE! or MRAILING!

Are either of you two superpowers that be around and could give this a shot?
This would be one of those great killer apps for the I730 that we could really use, and would love to have!

Need a smart guy to hit this up

Hey all, I too would love to be able to hit up pocketnes more effectively with my 730. I am able to get by by turning on the onscreen virtual buttons. I then use the hardware directional pad and the on-screen B and A, but this is a ghetto fix that only works in pocketnes - (someone turn on the Superdave or mrailing signal in the sky!!)

PS - thanks to the above 2 for the already excellent group of mods and hacks!!!
