After using my i730 for two years now, every so often streaming an NPR show like "Car Talk," (I use BToggle and my bluetooth headset while I walk/run), in the last week or so, I noticed that - regardless of the internet station I choose - the signal stops after 3 minutes (approximately).
Does anyone know if this is something that Verizon has somehow "limited" recently? Have they implemented some type of auto-cutoff? (I know about the contract terms about streaming. That's not what I am talking about.)
Or is this something with the i730?
Any advice would be appreciated and/or sharing of your own recent experience.
When this first started happening weeks ago, I called VZ and they had me recreate the connections, which did nothing.
Next, tried updating roaming list, which did nothing.
Next, they tried reprovisioning the lines, which did nothing.
Next, the old stand by, hard reset, this fixed the problem for a couple of weeks, but now it is back!
Absolutely without fail, once my connection is active, exactly at the two minute mark (timed it several times) the connection drops. Furthermore, the connection drops exactly when the EV icon changes to EV/1X...every time. I reconnect, it connects for two minutes, icon changes from EV to EV/1X exactly when the connection drops due to "Not being connected to the network".
This is driving me nutz and I know if I call VZ back they will have be hard reset again and I'm not doing that.

Well if the EV icon is changing to EV/1x, then your connection is going dormant, which means that is why it's dropping. Something is letting it go dormant. For both of you, list all of the software you have running, and any hacks you have installed/tweaked...

Need help setting up your i730/i830 or other WM2003/WM5 Phone, as well as the other hacks I have done, check out the MRailing Guides and Links
- MRailing, your show clock/date always hack
- TomTom Navigator 6
- MS 2007 DST Update
- MS Business Contacts
-WebIS VoiceMinder
- SuperDave's AutoStep
- MS OneNote Mobile
- I am using VoiceSignal, not Voice Command
Michael, I installed your "Date" hack this time, but it was not present when I had the issue before. Also, I was using Voice Command before and Voice Signal now, so no consistency there either.
Whenever it is set to either a timed sync interval or "Push", it drops the Internet connection at exactly two minutes in. Once automatic sync is disabled (Both "Push" and "Timed Interval" check boxes unchecked), no connectivity problems. I tested several times and this was definitely the issue. You can still use Wireless Sync, just do it manually when needed.
Thanks Michael, you mentioning the connection going dormant made me think of checking this.
Have you tried calling VZ and having them reprovision your data service?
Do you have the same issue I had where the EV icon changes to EV/1X when the connection drops?

I will be sitting and eating lunch and listening to the radio on line...not moving at all...and it cuts out...it seems independent of the EV/1X switch (and my area is almost always EV.

It cutting out like that right in the middle of a stream was exactly what was happening to me. The EV to EV/1X switch would happen to me even in all EV areas. As Michael indicated, this happening exactly when the connection drops shows the connection going dormant, not necessarily showing a change in connection speed or area. I was trying to use this to track down what is going on with yours. Right when the connection drops, look at the title bar and see if the indicator shows EV/1X. Mine would do that and then connect right back up at EV.
I will try it and see what happens. My gut says it isn't it because it has been fine for months and months...and just within the last couple of weeks, this behavior has developed. I am a little nuts with work but should be able to have some spare "listening" time over the weekend.
I'm not sure what progress was made on this, but I ran into a simlar problem at work with it constantly dropping back to 1x after a few minutes, when I'm in a very good area for EVDO. What it ended up being for me was a new CDMA tower that had been erected very close to my work and it was overpowering phones in the area forcing them to jump back and forth. EVDO when I was connected to the verzion tower 1x when I was connected to this other CDMA. As this only happened when I was at work I new it was releated to the area I was in. That and before I would start streaming I could call *228 and get the verizon message. After it dropped back to 1x if I called *228 it said "thank you for calling alltell". It took a few weeks it fixed its self.
