I bought an I730 with WM5 installed. Can't get it to sync at work. Can't get it to sync at home. Both PC's have XP and Activesync 4.5. Here's what happens at both places:
1. Put phone in cradle
2. Activesync activates, says connecting.
3. Phone never shows any signs of syncing.
4. Activesync displays message "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows
Mobile powered device. To troubleshoot the problem, click OK"
5. Cllick OK. Goes through some scans. No errors reported. Activesync log
does not show any errors.
I've tried everything, including everything I could find in any threads on here. Microsoft support is no help. Samsung support is worthless.
This is just plain nonsense. I'm not someone that knows how to, or enjoys tweaking every little setting and internal organ on this thing, although I have tried every setting I could find.
I think that the phone vendors should start providing their own sync programs just like Palm does (And the digital camera makers do). If you choose to then sync with Outlook, there should be provisions for that as well. I'm just tired of all the crap that it takes to sync with Outlook. I love the I730, but I think I'm just going to get rid of it and get a Palm based Treo. They're the only ones who seem to have it right.
living in nyc i have a lot of friends who work as tech guys at big firms. almost to a man they all use apple computers as their personal choice at home. is there anything else that really needs to be said?
Activesync: if you have firewall and/or VPN software, I'll bet that's the problem. I have to give access to Activesync within ZoneAlarm firewall. When I turn on Avental VPN software for work, Aventail turns off Activesync in Zonealrm. Drives me nuts.
Apple Macs: my son's friend has nice apple laptop - the speed, stability, and functionality is amazing.
The only thing Apple goofed on is their one button mice.........
jeryst - do you have a laptop ? If so, can you get ActiveSync to work with IR ? I don't think the IR synching gets snagged by the firewall mumbo jumbo (technical term....)
Okay, I tried the same thing at work, with no luck. The device still can't connect, so I am assuming there is something going on with our network that does not allow me to sync. I'm going to start another thread, because I'd like to know if I export my contact information from my Outlook at work, can that information somehow be put into my i730 via the SD card, and some file manipulation.
Delete Activesync 4.5 and install 4.1 (you can get it at filehippo.com), and go through the process of connecting it. If it still has issues, try resetting the phone and/or rebooting the computer while everything is connected. It worked on both my phone and my wife's (2 different pc's). Good luck!
