Hi!
Great topic!
I am testing Vista Ultimate on my computer, before making the leap from XP to Vista.
In order to avoid those...
Any way, can anyone please tell WTF is wrong with that .ico file?????
I can't open it with ANY photo editing software
ACDSee, Photo shop and Corel won't recognise it...
Hi Mike... So its one year later and WMD is up to 6.1 something. I discovered your hack and tried it. The Sync.ico replacement with a proper phone image certainly works to make the WMD startup look like we'd like, but following your directions and tyring permutations on them fail to keep the custom image stable upon connection.
Yes, I put the right icon in the Windows directory -- and plenty of other places too. I was careful to remove all the device references -- even from WMD iteself -- and watched the new drivers load up with the icon in plac on the phone -- but alas it just keeps reverting to the generic phone image once I connect.
I suspect that something new has happened with the latest version of WMD center. My phone is an i830w from Sprint. Did Microsoft create some new methodology for this to work or maybe just drop the feature with the latest release?
Which reminds me ...a bit off topic but perhaps food for a new thread: I found a service manual for Samsung i830 and it clearly shows a GPS receiver and the antenna inside. Maybe the i830w has this inside (I don't want to open it to see). The service manual even has a test procedure if you have the right gear. Samsung and Sprint, however, keep saying its all a mistake -- there is no real GPS on board just E911 locator. Is this true? The early product ads suggest its not. I cannot find a thread that fully explores this topic, but I suspect there really is a GPS radio in this phone waiting to be unleashed. Do you know?
Never Mind -- Icon issue resolved -- still looking for GPS
Sorry... after posting the reply to the thread a year old I felt like I shoudl try this yet one more time. I did and it worked. Don't ask me why -- I don't know. Most likely I did something wrong the other times I tried, but I don't know what. Not wating long enough after device uninstall maybe? Beats me. Its nice that it works. Its not so much that it improves my productivity, its just nice to have control over tiny details sometimes
I realize this thread is old sorry for the necro posting. But I've been trying to make an icon for my Blackjack II and every time I make the file it looks fine until I rename it to sync.ico then it shrinks down to a square and looks bad. So could you either make me an icon for the BJ II or let me know how and what program you use? Thanks.
I have a pretty good image of a Tilt that I would like to turn into an .ico file. How should I do it? The closest ico file that I could find was of the 8525 by Cingular.
Here is the image that I would like to turn into an ico
thanks for file, but the ico file is corruptted and won't display. Can you check the file and resubmit the zip file? thanks in advanced..
The icon file is fine - I use it on my own device. You need to copy the .ico file to your Windows directory on your phone and follow all the directions at the beginning of this thread.

yeah, I've done this a bunch of times for my smartphones, almost since the thread started way back when. This is the first time I had an sync.ico file that wasn't viewable on WinXP. But I will give it a go, thanks man..
EDIT: That's funny, I was actually the first one to respond to this thread about successful use. I remember those files always being viewable in WinXP. I don't know much about GDI+ except that there has been many updates to that from windows update.
EDIT: You were right, it worked. Too bad it's not a real good icon image. Oh Well, if anybody comes up with a good one, please respond....
Thanks to all for the efforts. This helps me alot because I have 4-5 different Win Mob devices so this is GREAT. But even though we have the Sprint Mogul, PPC6800, I sure would apprciate the Verizon Version, the Xv6800.
Thanks in advance. There was so many pics I figeured it would be easier to grab the one that works the best for whomever does the Icon. Itried and could never keep them in proportion. LOL
Fat squatty guys!
