"Your username or password is wrong." VZ data tech stumped
My data connection was working fine a little over an hour ago. Now whenever I try to connect I get this message
---
Dialed: #777
Your username or password is wrong. To check your connection setting and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, turn the device off and try again.
---
Data tech had me do a *229 then *22988. Soft reset and try again. Checked my connection settings to verify I had "mynumber@vzw3g.com" as the username and "vzw" as the password. Tried both blank. Tried just my number @vzw3g.com and blank password. Then tried both correctly filled in. Came to his last resort of hard resetting the phone... Really don't want to do that. There anything else I can try?
i had that error once before and i just deleted the existing connection and then set up a new connection and bingo. dont know if that will work for you but worked for me when i went round and round about this like you have been.
If you still have the CDMACSP in the startup folder in /windows/startup/, a simple soft reset will recreate the dialup connections.

i have had that problem many times. Basically you need to get a good data support person, tier II not the first line.
They need to reset you data plan on you phone. Usually this happens when you activate a new phone and "don't have the old one off" according to VZW. Which in my case (3-4 times it was just their f'up).
Anyone else on the East coast just get an email to the email address registered to their VZW account from some dude @ VerizonWireless.com about an Initial Service Disruption report for the Was/Balt/VA/Philly region about 1x EVDO coverage problems?
Edit----
Yep that was it. Didnt know if that email was real or not. Tech confirmed there is an outage around the East coast...

glad to hear you got a solution, and you will not have to get frustrated and resort to the hard reset.
That is the problem 90% of the time, it's Verizon's issues and normally an outage in a particular area. Glad you got it working. It was nice of Verizon to include the CDMACSP app so it can recreate your connections, this is a foolproof way to make sure it's back to the correct settings.

Thanks for all the help. I too am glad I didn't have to hard reset. Whats up with VZW tech support not knowing when there are outages? I got that email before the tech on the phone did Both of the techs were constantly pushing me to do a hard-reset too.

The Customer Service department doesn't know because they are in a call center in Texas, FAR away from the East Coast. Most of them just read information off the screen, and it would be level two people or their managers that would know about a simple network outage. This is the lack of communication that hurts many large businesses not knowing what is going on through the ranks...
At least they sent you an e-mail... Normally you don't know unless it's on a message board like this, or you finally get someone in the know at Verizon...

I refuse to do Hard Resets when I have issues that are related to issues such as what you were having. I have gone round and round, then just had them send me a new phone.
The "Reboot and call me back" or in VZW Case "Hard Reset, then Lets try something else" approach really sux when they have issues.
Today, my Phone was saying it couldn't connect as i had INvalid Username and Password. I chuckled as i had posted in this thread yesterday, and figured i was cursed.

I just flipped over my Magic 8-Ball, and yup, you're cursed...

i often have this problem, and just keep typing in VZW as the password till it works
i do not, however, seem to have CDMACSP [or even cdma*.*, at least acording to totalcomander search], anywhere on my device . . .
. . . can i download it from somewhere?
Are you using WM5 or WM2003. CDMACSP is only in WM5 and is found in the \windows\startup\ folder. Unless you deleted it from startup, which is recommended in my setup guide to give you that little bit faster of a device. I do make the suggestion to copy it to the SafeStore directory instead of just deleting.

I get this once every couple of weeks. It's showed up more since I've been on a corporate billed plan that supposedly has no data service. When the logon prompt pops up I just leave all of the fields blank and logon again. Works like a charm every time.
I am having this same problem today, Jan 18, where no matter what I do it can't connect to EVDO or 1X and keeps prompting for password. I am in NY, on Long Island and had the same problem this morning in NYC. Anyone know if there is a Verizon problem in this area today?
-Xmurray.
edit: Cancel that. Seems to be working now even though I did nothing different and it had not worked all morning after many soft resets etc.
I had the same problem last week travelling from Long Island to Atlantic City. The VZ rep with whom I spoke told me that with WM5 the user name is "verizon" and the password is "vzw". Put it in and my data connection was up and running.
I got data plan activated on my i730 (WM5) today and am having same error message. I tried soft reset and other methods that are described in this thread without luck. I do have CDMACSP. I was clueless, so i tried the second option "quick 2 net" from my dialup settings (#7772, username qnc, password-**************** i do not know, i never made any changes there), and it worked! However it connects only in 1X mode. Can anyone help me? I want to connect by #777 to get evdo going.
Thanks in advance!
