I purchased thinking it would be the $199 that I have been seeing on their website after my renewal discounts, but to my surprise it rang up $99.99! I love the phone so far (especially for the price), and successfully upgraded it to WM5 last night (after having the stuck at 73% problem, which was fixed with the samsung upgrade instructions)
Wow, a hundred bucks, you can't buy a deaf and dumb (no WWAN) iPaq for that price. Congratulations!

I'm tempted to purchase the i730, I'm trying to hold out on a new 2 year upgrade from my old phone. Verizon is sooo slow with new phone releases. How much longer in the dungeon must I stay.
Its so worth it Mojo, especially for $99.00 or even $199.
I saw the same price for $99 and was totally blown away. After inquiring about it, the rep at the VZW store told me that it is $199. If you order the data plan, then it drops to $99.
Hey, just came back from Verizon and was told that the i730 was discontinued [was gonna buy one] ? This might be old news to many, but it is new to me. Anyone know why?

It has been discontinued for around 6 months (or so Verizon has been saying), but Verizon reps at the stores didn't know it. They would still sell them, and they would still arrive at our houses. Also Verizon stores never really had them in the store (very few stores actually had them in stock, almost all had to order them).
You can still get them online, and they are marked as "While supplies last" which is what Wodin just said. This normally happens on the way to releasing a device to replace it, which might be the HTC 6800, and then in the summer they might sell out the 6700 and release the Samsung i760, or if we were really lucky, they would just introduce the Samsung i760 in replace of the i730 when they sell out.
You can still get them online through Verizon, you can still call the Verizon reps and get them, but the stores can no longer order them.

I just purchased a i730 last week from Verizon's telephone sales. I arrived this past Friday. At the time I ordered mine, the phone salesperson told him that Verizon had 4,500 of the i730 in stock still, but she did say that they were being discontinued.
No, this is part of the SCH-i760 downgrade along with no WiFi.
From the screenshots I have seen, the i760 had WiFi... But that is a discussion for the i760 thread. Check out Engadgets article about the crossbow OS running on the i760. Today screen has the WiFi app...
And without the SDIO port, they can make the device thiner and smaller using either mini or micro SD. It's what comes with change...

Hi all. Quick question on the thread. I have a Samsun i700 which a friend gave me. Originally I bought insurance on a different phone last year, but apparently when I switched to the i700 the insurance magically transfered! At least that's what someone at VZN Customer Service told me over the phone.
Anyways, the internal speaker isn't working so I have to use an earpiece or the speaker phone (which is a pain for privacy!!).
If I try and get this fixed under the insurance plan do they take the phone immediately, leaving you without a phone until the replacement is sent? Its my primary phone so I'm really reluctant to be without for awhile.
BTW: I see all this talk about the i730. How do people compare it with the old Samsung i700 I have? It supports bluetooth, right?
Well Robertjm, this isn't a discussion of insurance of the i700 but let me take a quick second to answer your questions
If the i700 is still insured, you call them, tell them whats broken, pay 50 dollars (the copay amount) and they'll mail you a i730 because they dont carry the i700 anymore (I think).
I wont even go into the differences between the i730 and the i700. The i730 is far superior.

Thanks for the quick reply. I realized it wasn't a thread about the i700, but since you guys were talking specifically about the insurance program I figured I'd be able to get my queston answered.
I just went to the website and they still have the i730 listed as "While Supplies last."
You however will be surprised how long they keep the i730 in stock. Perhaps others will remember how long the i700 was in stock and then mulitiply that by how many more i730's have been sold. You are talking a long wait to get an upgrade through this method. The days of breaking you phone and getting an automated upgrade are passing. Although I started with a Thera and was swithced to the i700 and now becuase of a theft was upgraded to the i730.

i agree with that, i bought an i600 on ebay about a year ago, somehow it was still on warrenty and the rep decided for some ungodly reason to send me another one. so i got a new* one for free this is an old phone... yet in 06 they still had plenty of refurbs

Do a search for "8 Confessions of a Verizon Employee" and you may find a way to get a better deal on the i730.
well welcome to the community. sounds like you got a steal on that bad boy! I just hope you are prepared to spend every waking hour of your life on this forum.

I just got mine for free!
I was holding off for my 2 year renew. My dad had just got one for $99 last month. I wasn't supposed to be eligible until next month, but I went to the Verizon site and it said I was eligible . When I tried to do the on line 2 year renew, the web site tried to tell me it was $199 even after the upgrade discount. I went to a different page on the same site:
and there was a $100 discount for an on line order. I tried to do it online, and they told me it would be $99 even though I was supposed to get an additional $100 credit towards a new phone. I finally called *611 and told them I was ready to do my upgrade. He first tried to tell me I was going to have to pay $99 but would get $99 credit towards the service. However, I did not want to pay, the big bucks, for the Internet service, yet, so they gave me the phone for free! I got the $100 on line discount, and the $100 credit towards a new phone. I kinda feel guilty.
I can't wait to get it. It should be here by Tuesday. I am a little apprehensive because I am a big fan of the Palm platform, (Are we allowed to say that here? ). I am particularly worried about having to spend more money to add a GPS program (any suggestions for a newbie). I have been using Mapopolis, but I have heard they were going out of business. But, I couldn't beat the price on the phone.
You will be fine. just read the FAQs now before your device arrives.
Welcome to the forum.
Mark
p.s. I just noticed that the phone is listed as "while Supplies Last!" but on the phone picture it has a red "Out Of Stock" label over it. Ambiguous to say the least.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
