Did you run the Windows update and the Outlook update? Are the times correct in Outlook and Windows?

I don't use a Windows pc (I use a Mac) nor do I sync with a computer. So, there were no Windows or Outlook update.

I figured that I would just manually change the time on the i730 an hour later. Did so, click ok in the dialog box to confirm the changes. The change took. I made a call. Hung up. i730 went to sleep. Five minutes later, I open the i730...and guess what???? The time was BACK an hour earlier. Went through this again...time was right again (not appts, just the clock on the phone). 5 minutes later...time went back by itself.

Michael, I know you have MANY other things to do, but I am nuts with this thing. I won't sync with Wireless Sync until I get this fixed. And since I am traveling all week, using wireless sync will be my only way of keeping my schedule up to date... It is a long-winded way of asking for HELP!

Thanks for whatever you can suggest. If you would be willing to chat with me on the phone, I will be happy to call you...even pay you a few $$ to your PayPal account if I can get this fixed. Needless to say, Verizon Tech was totally useless.

I left my device in the cradle overnight and this morning every thing was as it should be. I had the message that it had updated to DST.

Try following these steps from Microsoft's website:

Quote:
Using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile browser on your device, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ and download the Daylight Saving Time 2007 Update your Windows Mobile device. This file will install the update directly on the device. On your device, navigate to the file you downloaded, and then click on it to install the update.
See if loading the official file will work. Once installed, change your time zone to either Eastern or Central (something different than your current time), then click ok, closing the Clock applet, then soft reset. Once soft reset, go back to time zones and change it back to your current time zone, click ok, closing the applet, soft reset, and see what it does. You might also try disabling the phone radio.

Now did you load the update to Wireless Sync? If not, that might be your problem, as Verizon sent out an update for Wireless Sync this week to reflect the DST.

Here is the Verizon Wireless information:

http://support.vzw.com/how_to_use/da...ings_time.html

There are two different links for the i730, one takes you to Microsoft's website, the other is Wireless Sync's update.

Michael,

Thanks for your patience and info.

I already did the wireless sync upgrade and dst upgrade.

I redid the microsoft dst patch...EXACTLY as you suggested in three posts up...both with the phone on and disabled.

In both cases, here is what happened:

I am in central time. I changed it to eastern time and hit ok when dialog box came up. Soft reset. Went back to clock applet...and guess what? it shows as CENTRAL TIME.

Ok, I thought...I am stupid. Didn't change it. So.....I redid it, making sure it said Eastern Time (phone disabled), hit ok to approve the change (when I did in the applet, the clock moved ahead one hour)...closed out of the applet, waited a minute, soft reset, got back into the applet and AGAIN..it is back to CENTRAL TIME.

ARGGHH....suggestions?

Try uninstalling all of the updates first, after they are uninstalled, do a soft reset.

Now download and reinstall the MS update, soft reset after install. Switch yourself to a "Visiting" time zone, click OK, then soft reset. Go back to the clock applet, change yourself back to your time zone (Central) in the "Home" time zone. Soft reset.

See if that works, if not try changing to Eastern, and then soft resetting and change back to Central.

Had to hard reset; PIM data gone, did *22899 (Verizon) & time still wrong

Ah! Such simple instructions. How could anything go wrong? Let me count the ways:

I clicked on the link. It asked if it should download the file to Main Memory - My Documents; I said fine - click OK.

Everything was fine until I tried to "navigate to the file {I} downloaded." I assume - yes I know - that "File Explorer" is what one uses to "navigate to" another file.

I could not find the file with File Explorer. I checked to see if there was an option for hidden or system files; didn't see one. I tried "Find" - not helpful. I tried using Pocket Word to see if that would show the file somehow. I looked other places - nothing.

Finally, I tried clicking the link again. It said the file was already there, so I told it to save it to Safestore.

Tried to "navigate to" the file again using File Explorer and nothing. Tried looking all over the place and found nothing. My Samsung i730 told me I was running out of memory and I told it to close all programs and then I started looking again. The PDA locked up. Did a soft reboot.

This resulted in a soft reboot loop; it wouldn't go away. Tried leaving battery off for 30 seconds, but no luck. It was hopelessly stuck in this loop.

At this point I am kicking myself because I should have done a Sync before hand to save my stuff. I know I should always do a backup before changing anything in the system. There's nothing I can do at this point & berating myself wasn't going to get things done.

I don't have a helper app that can start in Safe Mode. I searched this forum and I read the FAQ's. From all that I gathered the only solution was to do a hard reboot.

The good news: I just got an SD card the other day and moved all or almost all of my files there. However, I could not find the files that contain contacts and calendar, etc. so I did not copy them and I didn't think to use the backup program. I was going to check here for some info on this.

I haven't Synced in a couple of weeks so some data is going to be missing if I get my PIM information back this way. But wait, an answer on one of the threads that mentions a hard reset says data will be lost, but not what is in Safestore and don't worry about PIM info because it's not "something, something, active something" and "something, something" will restore it. [I can't find this just now; slight chance it may have been on another forum].

So, I hard rebooted. I'm out of the loop. The stuff I copied or moved to the Storage card or SafeStore, but there's nothing in contacts or calendar.

So, here are my problems:

(1A) Where's my PIM info? Nothing automatically restored it. Is there something I have to do to get it back - some program I have to open or am I left with going back to that last time I did "Active Sync" with my partner computer?

(1B) Reassurance needed: The stuff I read about how my PIM was safe didn't change anything as I still had to hard reboot to get out of the soft reset loop, right? Right? [It did raise my expectations and now I've spent time searching official guides and this site for how to get my PIM info.]

(1C) Other than doing ActiveSync more often, is there a way to copy the contacts, calendar, etc to safestore or the storage card? How does one find these files? Or should I use the backup program on the i730 i between syncs?

(2) What can/should I do to change to daylight savings time? I waited until today because I thought by then all the bugs would be worked out.

I have only myself to worry about re the i730. The "partner" computer I do ActiveSync with has a dead internal battery so its time and date settings are messed up. Each time I ActiveSync I have to remember to uncheck the option about syncing the time or manually restore the time.

(2A) I would have thought that the easiest thing would have been to just change the time manually now and again in the fall, but in reading the FAQs and related threads, I came across one person who said that the PDA just kept going back to the wrong time. So this isn't an option, is it?

(2B) There is another computer available to me which has Windows XP and which seems to have reset itself successfully, but it's not ours - it's my spouse's work computer and I wouldn't like it to be anything other than a guest for syncing. Will ActiveSync solve the problem if I use that computer was a guest? What if I temporarily use it as a partner computer? Will that solve the problem or do I still have to run the patch?

(3A) If I have to run the patch, or have to download any other CAB file, can I find the file with File Explorer (using Windows Mobile 2003 se) or do I have to download something else (a registry editor?).

If I know the exact file name and directory and I use the "Open" option will that work?

(3B) I read some instructions (by mrailing, I think) somewhere that suggest downloading a patch to the PC, renaming it to remove the CAB by changing it to TXT and then copying it to the device (i730). Perhaps this may have something to do with it, but other than this reference and another one where someone didn't really change the extension I couldn't find any info on why & when this is required and whether it's required for other file types that are downloaded or copied (for example .exe files)? Do I have to do this for all CAB files? Is this only for the 2003 operating system or does it apply to 5.0 as well? [I tried looking for this info in the FAQ's it turned out 20+ pages of results]

Is this the case for 5.0 also?

(3C) I just realized the problem may have been in how I tried to install the patch. Is it wrong to install programs or patches directly to the device by going to the internet page on the device's PIE and clicking on the install link? The MS instructions mrailing quoted and which are found at their link says to use the internet explorer on the mobile device.

Do I always have to use a PC & be in ActiveSync to navigate to the link & install, even for CAB files? For any others? Is this patch a CAB file?

Is this also the case with 5.0?

Help!!!

Had to hard reset, etc.

I found out where I got the notion that my PIM data was safe; It's from Verizon's FAQ for the i730:

Quote:
How do I recover after a hard reset? Your PIM information is backed up to persistent storage (NAND Flash memory) on the i730 each time you perform a soft reset on the device. This persistent storage is not affected by a hard reset so it will be there when you turn on your device. The information will automatically be restored. If you have performed a backup using the included Sprite backup application, you will be able to restore your device to it's original configuration using the backup file you created.
http://support.vzw.com/devices/samsu...aq.html#item22

Is this perhaps only the case for 5.0?

Michael,

I did just as suggested...twice.

Now I have the correct time on the phone, correct times April 1 and after, incorrect times before, and NO notifications that DST has been updated.

Next?

Freddie -

I had the same problem - appts all screwed up. Nothing I could do - changing time zones, soft reset, changing time zone again, seemed to work. Finally I synced it with my computer and the appt times were all correct. Have you tried syncing?

So easy this way...could not get it to go in sync on my lap top, but in a few moments was all done with this direct way...

what does the wireless sync update, update within wireless sync...I am assuming this is for those of us that sync via BT?

Anyway, excellent solutions
thanks all...mrailing

I am having big problems with this patch/update too. All of the things others are notating. No matter what I do, the time seems to change on its own either forward or backward but never sticking with the time or time zone I set it in. I have tried uninstalling the patch, soft resets, sync with my computer and it always changes back to incorrect time. I made a Sprite Backup about a month ago.... I am glad I did because I will be restoring very soon. I guess it goes with the territory. You want to be on the frontier of tweaking and whatnot, you have to be prepared for whatever.

I am still having a problem with recurring meetings being off by an hour. I have a detailed list of my setup and updates in an earlier post, but here is a summary.

Environment:
1. Exchange 2003/outlook 2003
2. Windows 2000 SP4 on the wireless sync machine
3. Windows Mobile 5 on my i730

Upgrades:
1. Windows 2000 SP4 and Outlook patches applied
2. Windows Mobile 5 patch applied
3. Wireless sync "server" update applied
4. Wireless sync "client" update applied
5. i730 timezone switch, soft reset, timezone switch back applied

Symptoms:
1. All recurring meeting requests and appointments, that were established last prior to DST patch, are off by an hour on my i730
2. (1) above only true during the DST diff period (Mar 11 - Apr 1)
3. Wireless sync calendar online reflects all appointments accurately
4. Deleting and re-entering these same appointments does not fix it
5. Forcing the wireless sync to overwrite all calendar entries on next sync shows that all entries are updated, but they are still off on i730

Is there a way I can manually delete my outlook pst-like file on the i730, and get rid of all remnants? (Then I could force a sync and know that it is clean.) Would prefer not to hard reset, since my backup file restoration would overwrite this deletion and I don't have time to reinstall everything.

For the others that are exhibiting this same symptom, can you please reply with your exact setup as well? (Trying to figure out if this is wireless sync related....)

I'm seeing the exact same symptoms.
My setup is slightly different... XV6700, Windows XP Pro.
Upgrade process the same.

I've also noticed that when I go to edit a recurring appointment on the PPC, the time shows correctly within the appointment, but not in the calendar view of the PPC or the alarms on Alarmtoday.

My only solution so far is to go and edit the single occurrence of the appointment and move it back an hour.

Thanks, Faxman. Glad to know it is not just me. I was only able to fix these if I deleted them from my calendar, sync'd, added them back again, and sync'd. And this didn't work for me last week, but did this week.

FWIW, all of my problematic appointments were recurring entries that spanned pre-DST, DST, and post-DST. But not all of them failed.

Let's just face facts, the patch is not working for everyone. It seems to work well for some, and is just a regular pooch screw for others. If I had known I would have had these problems I would have just adjusted the time manually last Sunday and then readjust it when the old daylight savings time made it change again.

But hey, in the grand scheme of things its not so bad. One bad patch should not make us forget all the wonderful information and tweaks/patches we have received over these last couple years.
