Yes, on older devices I got the same error from the MS CAB.

Guess my file works better....

Fundamentally it's the same files, modifies the same registry keys, and works the same way. I made mine to work with any mobile device that they said the registry changes would support...

UPDATE:

when I use active sync (instead of just the .cab) to install the microsoft update on my i830 it works and gives me the additional time zones: http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/8/8/a8896b5f-69d7-4381-b12d-6fe27ff0d07a/Setup.msi

funny that the i830 likes it this way, since it is the EXACT same cab

Quote:
Yeah the offical update doesn't work on any of our Verizon i830s (WM2003)

Your Update .Cab installs but gives and error that it may have not worked properly because it was for a previous version of windows.

One thing I noticed about your .cab install is I didn't get the additional mexico time zones. (I only have 1 -8 GMT timezone whereas on my PC and my 6700 I have 2 one for US/Canada and one for Baja-Mexico)

*sigh* Microsoft's website seems to be broken. I'm going to their WindowsMobile section FROM my i730 to download the timezone update, and it says "404 file not found" when I click the link for the CAB file for the 2003SE or WM5 update. Anyone else have this issue? Again NOTE: This is when I do it FROM my device.

Same problem here...it happens when I try to download via my PC as well.

we have a ticket open with Microsoft on this DST patch issue and here's what we've been told so far:
* there are two separate CAB files - one for WM2003 & one for WM5 (of course, they couldn't tell us why their file didn't work on both platforms to begin with , like the one in this thread does...)
* just this morning they called and said they are getting ready to release a file that does NOT require the manual steps (of changing timezone back and forth)

maybe their site is down for the CAB files since they are getting ready to release new ones?

We just got this release from Microsoft. Cab file links are updated on this page, but the manual steps still appear.

cab files: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...tdownload.mspx

Overview

Please note that we are releasing a new set of patches for Windows Mobile Devices. These patches replace the previously released patches.

If your customers have been using the previously released patch, they may still continue to use it for Windows Mobile 2003 devices and Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones. This newer patch is required for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC based devices, and recommend for all other Windows Mobile devices as well and fixes the following issues:
1. On Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC (including Phone edition) devices, it fixes an issue where if the visiting time zone was in DST, the home time zone would be overwritten during the transition.
2. Makes the installation of the patch easy for all versions by automating the manual steps the previous patch required.
3. Provides a combined cab file for Windows Mobile 5.0 easing users need to figure out whether they have a Pocket PC or Smartphone device
User experience for the new patches:
All users should install the patch prior to Mar 11th 2007 00:00 hrs in their currently active time zone for the patch to take effect properly. Particularly on Pocket PC devices, the users should not change the timezone during the night of Mar 11th when the transition occurs to avoid missing the automatic switchover.
On Windows Mobile 5.0 devices using the cab files:
1. Download cab file to the device
2. Execute the cab files.
3. If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location. The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
4. During the installation, the device will automatically restart to complete the installation.

On Windows Mobile 2003 devices using the cab files:
1. Download cab file to the device
i. PPC PE devices should download the unsigned cab files
ii. SP devices should download the signed cab files
2. Execute the cab files.
3. If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location. The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
4. After installation there will be no restarts.

Using the desktop installer:
1. Please ensure that the device is connected via the latest version of ActiveSync to the PC
i. If the device is not connected the installation will not occur properly
2. Download and run the setup.msi file
3. The installer will install the appropriate patch on the device
5. If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location. The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
4. After installation
i. Windows Mobile 5.0 devices will automatically restart
ii. Windows Mobile 2003 devices will not restart

Notes:
1. If there is an error dialog displayed with the following text: “Error processing timezone, please manually set the timezone” after restart on Windows Mobile 5.0, the user should complete the installation by a soft reset of the device.
2. If the device locks up for any reason after the installation of the patch, the user should perform a soft reset.

I am going to post here in hopes of receiving help...and to assist others that may encounter the same thing. (mods - if this should be a separate thread, please move it or ask me to do so)

I run WM5 with wireless sync. My extra computer running wireless sync is a Windows 2000 machine with outlook 2003. I took these steps to update:
1. Updated my machine and outlook with the typical MS updater.
2. Updated my machine-side wireless sync system per the wsync email.
3. Updated my i730 with the MS DST patch and updated wireless sync client per the wsync email. This includes the "change your timezone, save/ok, change it back" step.
4. Verified that my Outlook 2003 calendar looked ok for next week (minus those that had sent me meeting requests and not yet performed their DST patches)
5. Performed a wireless sync
6. Verified that the online wireless sync web calendar looked proper for the week of 3/11 with same caveats from (4) above

All of my appointments look fine within Pocket Informant 2005 except for a handful of meeting requests that originated from me and were updated properly with the MS DST patch (i.e. my Outlook calendars are fine, other people's were updated fine, and online verizon wsync calendar is fine). I tried to force wsync to refresh all calendar items from my computer. It updated all appts, but I still have the display problem.

Would appreciate any suggestions that people have. I also have a ticket open with Pocket Information support.

Whats wrong

Well, I followed the steps in the sticky. I couldn't use the UPDATED link since my work PC has blocked access to the Microsoft site. Yeah, I guess I should be working. ne way, after installing the CAB file I've changed the time zone from Eastern to Mountain (as instructed). But now the time is 2 hours behind. I thought this was supposed to leave the time as normal until the daylights switch in a couple weeks.

You need to switch the time zone back to Eastern...

Dst

My issue seems that I jumped the gun when I receiv ed the email from Wireless Sync that had me install their program.

When I tried to then do the MS Download and install it was refused as it said I had already installed a program.

Now what do I do?

ortiz- the answer to your question in the other thread, is that switching the timezone to anything but yours, and then back to yours, causes the device to use the new timezone table provided by the patches.

For my problem reported above, i can confirm now that Pocket Informant has nothing to do with it. Wireless sync calendar on my wsync website is proper, but wireless syncing to my device is leaving some appointments out of whack. The folks at PI said that they have been hearing about LOTS of problems with the DST updates on devices. Ugh...

I used the MRAILING time zone update cab. Suddenly yesterday (3/7) my i730 would change time zones to Saskatchewan (from eastern US) whenever I would do a soft reset. I repeated this numerous times and could not get it to stay at eastern US. I uninstalled the update and installed the MS CAB file. Looks like it works fine now.

What was up with that?
Anyone else see that oddity?

I used my update file, and last night intentionally left it off the cradle to make sure it updated. Just checked my phone, and it had the message that DST happened and the clock changed.

When you all installed the update, did you change the time zone to something different and then switch it back to your current time zone?

Michael,

Well...I forgot to do that. But I did this morning....and nothing happened...did I really mess things up? Is there some EASY fix? Or do I have to manually change all my appts before April 1?

Michael...sorry about not posting in this thread...just panicked (sp?)
