I'm running WM5 and When I turned my phone on Sunday morn (Ok when activated the screen, since it is always on) I had a notification dialog that the time was going to change .. in the background I could see the time was 2am... when I hit OK.. the time changed and that was it. there was no reset or lockup...
@Freddie: Check and make sure your phone is set to update its time in the Phone options>option tab, there is an Auto check box to sync the time with your cell provider.

This might rank as one of those "are you that stupid?" questions. But, I cannot figure this out.
Every other time daylight savings has ended or started, my device automatically updated itself...along with a notification that it happened.
It didn't this past Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The only major change in the device is that I upgraded to WM5 in between the start of daylight savings in March and the end of it this past weekend.
Is there a setting I forgot to check? Is this "new" in wm5? This happen to anyone else? Is it something with my device? Any thoughts?
By the way, I did a search under "daylight savings" and couldn't find an answer.
Arizonians, Hawaiians and isolated pockets of people in other areas do not have to put up with the assinine idea called daylight savings time. UNLESS of course you own a WM5 PDA. My beloved beastie decided that it wanted to change my clock yesterday, and I had to reset it manually. I did not wait for a time update from VZW, so I'm not sure what would have happend if I had.

Just cut & paste the INF file information into a new file on your hard drive. Save it as any name with the extension .INF. Now comes the tricky part. You need 3 files to create a custom CAB file: CABWIZ.EXE, CABWIZ.DDF and MAKECAB.EXE. I think you can get them all on the web, but mine were on my system from installing Visual Studio or one of the SDKs for development.
Put them all in the same folder. Create a fake readme.htm file or save the linked webpage as readme.htm. I created a batch file to run that automates the creation. The only line in it is "cabwiz.exe 2007_Energy_Policy.inf".
Tada! Your own CAB file that applies the registry settings.
My WM5 i730 updated automatically. Gave me no notification. And screwed up all my scheduled events so that it now thinks Halloween is today. I'm terrified to sync it to my computer cause I don't know which is going to overwrite which. Weird thing is, events scheduled for a particular time are fine. Only all day events are screwed up. Needless to say, I'm fairly aggrevated.
Very Strange. Only holidays were screwed up. Birthdays and other all day events were fine. Everything looked fine on my PC too, and resyncing did nothing. I had to delete all holidays from the PC. Sync to get rid of them on the phone, and reinstall them on the PC. That didn't go well either. I lost the updated holiday file, so had to get a new one to get the 2006-2012 holidays. WGA decided I hadn't activated Office yet. But office is activated, so i couldn't get pased the Windows Genuine (dis)Advantage. Had to get a pirate copy of the updated holidays file. Have I ever mentioned on here that I hate computers? Anyway, got my holdays back on the right day until the next time change anyway.
Hey wodin, you only think daylight savings time sucks becuase you live near the equator. For the people that live further north where it gets dark at 6:30pm and doesn't get light until 8:30am we find it helpful and it saves money on our heating bills. (something I'm sure you know nothing about)

And pebble, thanks for the great info!!!!
Well, I'm not sure, but I think I know a thing or two about heating bills, and having it get dark at 5:30, BTW the sun went down at 5:59 here tonight. I barely had time to finish nine holes!
You see, I spent my first eighteen years in Wisconsin. And I’ll admit my age by saying that I remember when President Eisenhower first instituted daylight savings time. I didn’t like it then, and I don’t like it now. And if I never see snow again it’ll be too soon. And THAT, my friend is why I live in Hawaii.
My point , however, was that the beloved beastie went ahead and assumed I wanted to set it's clock back ... when in fact I had no desire nor need to do that. It is even smart enough to know better, but doesn't seem to. It looks like someone at Micro$oft went ahead and decided how I should compute ... AGAIN!
OK Rant over, I feel better now.

Thanks Pebble... but do we really need this given our phones will get the date and time from the cell network? Unless of course you have your time option set to manual..

I am going to post the CAB file after November 4, 2006, as it looks like it will change the time zone information even for this year, but I can't tell, so to play it safe I will post it after that date.
Thanks for pointing that information out.

Our phones, Smartphones and Pocket PC phones, don't pull the time from the cell network. They don't change, because changing the time would also change all of your appointments. We had a big discussion of this at one time, and if I can find the thread I will post a link to it.

Here are some more threads discussing time zones, and issues with calendar items and appointment changes, when the time changes, or when you modify time zones manually:
This was a big discussion in the spring, since Indiana changed from "Indiana East" to Eastern, and ALL of my calendar items screwed up. Check those threads out if you have any time zone issues as there is a LOT of information in there about time zones.

Using this fix from Microsoft before Nov 4 of this year will cause your PDA to once again "fall back" an hour on Nov 4. Apply the CAB file or manual registry changes after then. You will see the "application" installed in your Remove Programs icon. The only way to verify that it is installed correctly is to manually check the registry, or set your PDA's date to 1:58am on March 11, 2007. If it changes, then it works. I did perform these tests on my i730 for both the new dates in 2007.
And let this thread get back to the issue of time zone problems originally posted...
