It has been my experience that ALL 8GB SD cards don't work with the i730. All of them use SDHC, which the i730 doesn't read. It's lucky that we can even read the 4 GB cards, and even then you need to get one without the SDHC on it.
The reason is the standards when it comes to SD cards have changed over the past few years, and some (many) of the SD readers can't read above 2 GB because of the FAT 2.5 GB limit, and that's all they were coded for, so, save your money, and get a 4 GB card, and if you need more space, buy 2x 4 GB cards. We know that AData 4 GB SD cards DO work on the i730, there are many threads on the 4 GB cards (search "AData" and you should find them).

I have an Adata 4 GB SD Card which works well, but have little room on it. This dood at ebay says that if theres a problem a firmware update will resolve it, but says that the Samsung SD Card works on the i730..a firmware update wouldn't help it?
And where are you going to get a firmware update for the i730? Where is one available, Samsung or Verizon? And do you really think that either will release one since Verizon is discontinuing the i730? Go ahead and trust the guy at ebay about it if you want, but it's not going to work and you are going to waste your money, simple as that, I am just giving a friendly warning. You can read this whole thread and see a couple people already tried, and it didn't work, and I have tried, and it didn't work. I wouldn't comment about it if it actually worked....
Also I wouldn't buy a "name brand" memory card on ebay, many are counterfit, especially the more expensive San Disk cards.

Oh well..that sucks. Yea I guess neither would release an update as you said. I actually got an Adata from ebay, and it works thank God, but I did see on the threads how many people have gotten counterfeits as well. The only thing I've seen different on his cards are that it aparently has an inbuilt firmware updater..It says "To increase its compatibility, the SD card has a feature called In-System Programming (ISP) to update firmware if it is necessary". Then again that doesn't necessarily mean it will work...Is that any different from what you saw on other 8GB SD Cards you tried?
He's giving you a load of bull about the card... Trust me, they will NOT work on the i730. Plus that card also says "SDHC", which WON'T WORK in the i730. Also how can some "ISP" software that is most likely designed for a PC (even if it exists) work on a Pocket PC OS? I am really sure it includes software that can update the firmware on ANY and EVERY SD card device, considering that 90% of the SD card devices are small card readers, cameras, etc. This is just bull, and I would avoid it.
I am done talking about this, I have given you all the warnings I can, and you are just beating a dead horse...

It is in fact working in my i730...It's a OEM 150X SAMSUNG SDHC 2.0 Compatible.
I do realize this isn't SUPPOSE to work but somehow it is. I haven't had any problems with it so far and I've never filled it to capacity to see what would happen.

With that size, you could create a new folder, grab everything on the card and make a duplicate copy in the new folder. Then go back to you original files and see if anything is corrupted.

Wayne, I could certainly do that!
The only reason I'm hesitant is because I discovered that both SAFESTORE and a 4GB SANDISK I previously used have a tendency to corrupt files once they reach a threshold of around 88% full. I would assume the 8GB SD would have that too.
I have filled the 8GB SD as high as around 65% with Mapopolis GPS Maps with no problems a few months back.
Interesting, as the Samsung I talked to (not someone you get to by calling on the phone), said that anything above a 4 GB SD card will not work, and anything with a SDHC will corrupt data. The Samsung rep, who I was connected to from my buddy at Verizon, said that it most likely won't register, but if it does, there tests have corrupted data, and that is one of the main reasons that many (including themselves) are switching away from Full Sized SD cards, and going to Mini-SD, which has a higher potential. He said it wasn't until recently that the SDHC technology hit, and that wasn't included in the SD reader of the phone, and it's not something that can be upgraded with firmware.
My main discussion happened because I had three 8 GB cards (all different brands, none Samsung branded) that a client had, and 2 failed to read/write data to the card, registering only 2 GB in size, while the 3rd read 8 GB, but once I placed data on, was unreadable on my i730 or on the computer. After formatting the card on the computer, we were again able to read and write data to it on the computer, but placing it back in the phone destroyed the data, and again we had to format the card in the PC, and it would only work in the PC.
I even tried to use SPB Pocket Plus to format the card, which formatted, but corrupted the data once I placed it on the card.
Interesting indeed. I am going to pass this along to the tech with a big 'what the' with it to see what he says.

i've ordered the same one from the same seller, and I will test it out when it comes. Let me know what tests you want me to run on it and I will see how it works.

Basically load 2 GB of data, then 4GB of data then 6 GB of data, and then fill it up, leaving just a 100 or so MB of space and see what happens with the data. Make sure you use the device for a day or so and see if you can still copy the data, or remove information from the card, and still copy some. Most people experience corruption, where it won't let files copy to or from the card, or it won't even read it. It can also just show up empty with no files, or even show only folders, with no files in it.
Those are just some examples...

Thank you gentlemen, as with the camera in the i730 issue I hoped was not a total dead end (not am not saying anything else about it in here..and am also not trying to start anything) I hoped this also wasn't a dead end. No one told me they bought a Samsung 8GB SD Card from this dood at ebay, and tell me it didn't work. A REAL WORKING 8 GB SD Card, no, even an 80% full 8 GB SD Card would ROCK!!! Many 4 GB SD cards that came out didn't work, but our Adata does, which IS A GOOD THING NO? Sometimes the improbable happens. I apologize if I may seem annoying in being persistent in asking different questions, but its not me to stop unless I understand that all my personal questions are reasonably answered and all possibilities are exhausted.
The issue with corruption that comes because of a certain percentage of the card being filled may have also answered my previous questions relating to the problems I had with messed up SPB Backups...which I think caused my White Screen of Death. Michael, you helped me resolve that, which I definitely appreciate, and this info I think also is answering why that may have happened...and how I may be able to prevent it from happening again..ie having more room on my card..Please work 8GB SD Card?

Thank you for this reply on the card. I hope the testing works out, as I'm in dire need of more room, and have been for a while. If I could even use just one more gigabyte (I say that for now that would be worth it. I don't want to deal with corrupted data, or pushing the potential for it to happen. I KNOW I've had data corrupted on it..for one thing my huge set up guide which I followed step by step got messed up so that I had to rewrite one all over again..really frustrating experience. I think it may be because of the room on the card being so close to full.
Dominick: I know you've 'heard all this before...', but I just thought I'd chime in, FWIW. I don't have the data needs you have; my 4G AData appears to be sufficient for me at this point (IGuidance for all states, some MP3s + backups, email storage, RSS feeds, etc). But I also periodically place that SD card in my laptop & copy all therein to my hard disk (which then gets backed up just like everything else on a regular basis). My laptop (plus all machines I elsewise have at home) get a monthly full backup once per month (via Ghost) to an external network drive which is 'RAIDed' (kind of), plus I do daily incrementals, sometimes multiple times per day (depending on what work I'm doing & how important to not lose). Maybe rather paranoid, but I just can't stand to lose what I've done (whether for myself, family or customers). Just my own thoughts & disciplines I've felt for myself are needed; ymmv.

Hey DWIM Thanks for the input. Yea I do much of that, minus the server and ghost, but I really like having the software I use on me, the cabs and the exes just incase I'm over someones house, and they may need a file..or if I'm at another computer and want to say, access PDANet or what not. Or if something gets messed up, and I don't want to use a backup, but just reinstall an item that may need to be reinstalled via a PC; it will all be there for me. I also need more room for music, movies, backups etc..It gets tedious though trying to sort through what DVD has what, if I'm searching for something I need for the i730 thats not on the device or card. I also try to backup SD Card data and whats on my laptop as well. Even though agree all those things are important and are good, and I do that sort of stuff, I needs me some more room ju no wat Im sayun?

And there is the rub.
My 4GB card is close to 100% full of music, maps and backups. I've never encountered anything to corrupt files like you are mentioning. But I do occasionally poke my card into my PC and keep it backed up for quick recovery, just in case.
If I only felt comfortable keeping an 8GB card well below 65% full, I would get a few 4GB cards instead.
I really like the Adata Duo card I just got. SD card on one side and a USB connector on the other. When the geeks wip out a 1GB thumbdrive, I can out geek them. Too bad they only go to 2GB.
Wayne, Dominick: As usual, I could have been clearer. I hardly ever ('cept for copying onto my laptop) take my 4G SD out of my i730. I also have an 8GB thumb drive (have a 4G for a spare, for the geeks when they need something - heh). I keep lots of utilities, installs, license keys, etc on the 8G mainly for use on the PC. I also keep an i730 folder for all the 'stuff' for that machine (pda? cell? whatever it is) on the 8G as well.

I carry all my software, both PC and cab, on my SD card, and I am currently using a 1 GB card. I don't carry lots of movies, but I do have two 4GB cards to carry the movies when I do. Have you thought about carrying an additional SD card, so having one SD in your phone, and just sliding the other SD card in your wallet? I carry two SD cards in my wallet, and my wallet is a front pocket wallet, very minimal on size. So I normally have around 9 GB of space on me when I only have my phone.
This would still give you flexibility and you wouldn't have to worry about file corruption, which was more of a problem with WM2003, but I have had it with WM5 when using an 8GB card. I would also like to see that an 8GB card would work, but only additional testing of multiple cards will determine that.

Wayne, This is one thing that I'm not able to do.
I have a low budget GE 8-in-1 reader, a more expensive Belkin 15-in-1 and a built-in 6-in-1 in my laptop. None of these can read the 8GB SAMSUNG SD (three of these could read the 4GB SANDISK with no problem).
...and NO--I'm not gonna FORMAT the card in either of the readers to see what happens...I realize I'm living on a wing and a prayer with this card as it is.
