Had an IT buddy of mine that couldn't ever get it to work right.
Couldn't get it uninstalled - finally wound up getting a new SCHi730 from Verizon.

/still too freaked to install WM5

Plenty of posts about freezing. Check the FAQ's. But basically hard reset and format safestore. Run the phone a few days without any programs to see if it still crashes. Install one program and run a few days before installing the next. Most programs that cause freezing are alarm and today screen programs. Do a little research on those programs. I've been running WM5 four months now and maybe need to soft reset maybe once or twice a month. I'm not ruling out a bum phone but there are lots of I730's with WM5 running fine.

As Paul_C mentioned, 90% of the complaints or lockups are not related to the phone, but to software installed on the phone. Paul recommended exactly what I do with ANYONE getting this phone (or any phone).

First format the phone and use it as is, no extra software, no matter how much you think you need it. The only thing I would do is an initial sync. This will give you a feel for the phone and know what's the phone and what isn't. Next find your biggest problem with the phone and load one piece of software that will fix it. So my biggest complaint was the notifications. I loaded phoneAlarm to take care of it, and got better notifications. My problems then started happening, so I checked for Beta or updated versions of PhoneAlarm, and bang, problems went away.

Over time I have added software to fix things I find to be an issue, and some of which have led to more problems, other's have been wonderful. Most poeple that I have dealt with recently have so much EXTRA junk installed on the i730, that's it's causing it to crash. Make sure you run very few today screen items, the more you run, the more potential for problems. Read my Setup Guide, as it has many suggestions.

If you are still having problems, then check for updates to all your software, and check for Beta software. Sometimes one version might be worse than the next. Also if you are running a beta of a software, remove it and try the release versions. phoneAlarm, although I praise it, and won't live without it, can cause MAJOR problems with the phone, and I HIGHLY suggest that you go through EVERY setting on it, if you are running it. Also check out the LITE version of PA, many people find it far more stable.

Also some people find that using the slider on the side generates quite a bit of lock ups.

So do a search, there are MANY threads talking about the different types of lockups, white screen, blank screens, just frozen, etc. Depending on which problem you are having, you probably can narrow it down in those threads.

Follow Paul's and Michael's suggestions. I had similar problems when I first upgraded to WM5. It would lock up like crazy. In my case, I found out that Wisbar and PhoneAlarm just would not get along together on my phone. Wisbar made my phone pretty, but PhoneAlarm gives the phone much needed functionality, so I dumped Wisbar and now I go weeks between lockups.
