Brand New i830 - any suggestions?

Howdy forum...
I had a PDA phone 3 years ago, then went to a samsung I600 smart phone 2002 after my PDA got damaged and no insurance. I did buy insurance on the I600, and it was just damaged. The insurance company could only replace it with a I830. So I am glad to be back to a PDA phone...
My questions:
Can anyone bring me up to date on the latest and greatest software for my I830? I have been out of the loop, and reading the forum shows me I have a lot to catch up on.

I see posts about the I830 not having wireless, and not able to link to a laptop via bluetooth with the verizon brand.
Are there fixes for this?
What software should I consider?
I see some CPU stepping software out there. Which one's should I look at?
for performance?
Battery life?
both?

blue tooth options?

GPS?

any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks
xhawkx

Hi xhawkx, theres literally tons of info for each question you asked . I'd say your best bet would be to use the search feature of the forum. The i730 and i830 are pretty identical, except most i730 users on this forum are running WM5 instead of WM2003SE that the i830 ships with, that being said, all those topics exist from when all i730s were running WM2003SE.. Welcome to the samsung PPC It really is a great device!

I see that there is TONS of information... but trying to make heads and tails of it is getting a bit... how should I say.... Confusing at this point. Just trying to get some answers to the latest info out there.
Thanks for the reply.

Welcome, xhawkx.

Take it one step at a time and read as much as you can. Thanks to the eager contributions of a great community, everything useful to ix30 users is right here.

And just to add that, in due course, WM5 should be available for the i830. Even with WM2K3SE, it's simply a better device than a largely undistinguised crowd of PPC Jrs.

As stated, there are threads for every question you asked. Do a search on each one and start reading.

I am going to close this thread.

PDAPhoneHome.com is here to help, but we would like you to help yourself first. When threads are started that basically want all the information spelled out for them, they generally get responses like you see here.

Yes there is a lot to catch up on. Software threads are all over the place, and quick searches will get you on track with them, and you can even go to your favorite downloading place (pocketgear.com) and look at which apps are rated the best, download the trials and see how they run. You can also search on those names and you will probably find lots of threads on that specific app.

You are correct the i830 doesn't have Wifi, because it has a GSM radio capable of connecting to Vodophone in Europe. So there is no wireless. The i730 has Wifi. Also the i830 doesn't have WM5 yet, so software or threads dealing specifically shouldn't really matter to you much.

Speedstepping shouldn't be an issue for you either, since WM2003 doesn't suffer from the issues with stepping like WM5 does. There are threads on things you can do to help battery life and performance.

There are so many GPS threads, that I am just going to say search. Don't just look for GPS, add some other terms like TomTom, and you WILL find PLENTY of threads, and if you limit your search to threads with my username in them, you will find lots of threads I have closed, with MANY links to other GPS threads.

Bluetooth, lots of bluetooth information including a HUGE thread on headsets, just search for bluetooth headset.

So we do like to help, but we expect you to read a little and take the time to learn. We won't just spoon feed you the information with just a broad topic and questions. If you have something specific, that hasn't been covered, then by all means ask. If you searched and found a thread, but didn't find the answer, then ask in that thread, no reason to start 1000 threads on the same subject.

My first suggestion, read the README BEFORE POSTING sticky. It gives you good information. Second look through the other stickies, paying attention to WM2003 threads, and the FAQ V.2. Read through that. Next hit up the "newbie" guide I created on setting up your i730/i830, it has LOT of useful information. Read, read, read, and you will start to see a pattern to this. I am saying this because the information is there, you just need to take the time to look, and you will benefit more because of it...
