I've been looking for Noise Canceling Headphones that are cheaper than the Bose QuietComfort 2 and 3. Sharper Image right now has a monthly special selling their Noise Cancellation Headphones 2.0 at 50% off if you buy something else in the store. This includes batteries. Since the headphones take one AAA battery, I picked up:

NC Headphones - $69.95.
Set of 4 AAA Batteries - $3.95

The register then cut $34.98 from the cost of the headphones bringing the before tax subtotal to $38.92. Obviously, these aren't as good as the Bose and you do have to buy an adapter for the i730. I ordered the PPCPADPT18 from PPC Techs. But, since the QC3 costs $350 and their cell phone connection kit cost $40 I think it's worth a gamble.

Wow, the Bose "solution" is a real choker, and kludgey to boot. This company really needs to revisit mobile headsets and come up with something more enlightened than repurposed home theater gear. Another old-line audio device maker, Shure, did just that. Way cool.

What's more, the i730/i830 doesn't even appear on Bose's adapter/mic compatibility list. No real surprise there, as we know the connector is odd...

Still, you'd think Bose would target this device family for its opinion leadership value. Nah, that takes imagination, lol.

Nice one about the air cleaners. Now, about the headphones. They aren't loud. But, I have fans going to dry out a carpet from a worn out hot water heater. The headphones did cut the noise so I could hear the music. The sound is also good for the price. And the i730 isn't a high-end source. I might have to boost the sound during recording of songs and movies.

Now, the BOSE salesguy did say the QCs can switch between ipod like devices that don't put out a lot of sound and stereos that do. But, $300 more is a lot to pay for that feature
