Unhappy Wi-Fi Connected, but can't load pages??

I've searched for this specific issue back and front and can't find anything that helps. I have finally figured out how to connect to my home network and router. It says "connected" next to the SSID and the icon on the today screen shows it as well.

So now I am thinking.. I did it finally!

Nope, now I go into internet explorer and nothing.. I get a message saying something to the effect of "The page you are looking for cannot be found." What the heck! If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

I also installed the wifi-phone together hack and with or without it I have the same problem. I assume its something with my router settings.. It is set on Open WEP, B and G, SSID broadcast disabled if any of that helps

Please help because this is driving me insane!!!!!!

Thanks

Kara

Figured it out finally! It was the encryption.. I had it on 128 bit.. but 64 works so yay! I am just worried that my network isnt safe though. I have MAC filtering on and the SSID disabled, but is that enough?

Thanks

Kara

Kara,
I've had the same kind of problems with mine. Sorry to say I don't have a solution to your problem. I also use WEP w/ 128 bit key. I have been able to get it to work by being persistent and with a soft reset. I rarely bother any more since it's such a hassle. If I turn off the WEP it works fine, but I'm not willing to do that. It seems like WEP isn't that great. I even have problems between different brands of WIFI cards in the laptops. The same ASCII key gives different HEX codes on D-Link vs. Linksys. I always type out the 26 character hex code.

I've found that Windows Mobile is finicky about whether you're connecting to a "Work Network" or "The Internet." Try playing around with those settings for your network card, even specific to an individual SSID, and see if you can't get the connection to work. When you're hitting a work network, WM pretty much restricts you to locally accessible machines. Having it set for the Internet opens up the world.

I would not disable WEP, however. Even though standard WEP encryption sucks, an open AP is an invitation for a "script kiddie" to use your network a their playground and either hit your machines or launch malicious activities through your network. This sounds more like a settings issue for the Wireless network on your PPC.

Angry

I've tried every setting I can think of. I connected to the specific ssid of my network.. I have the mac address listed in the router settings.. ive tried wap and wep and just when I think I've got it working, nothing. I've always had it set to "the internet" but maybe I should try "work" instead.

Actually now that I think of it, before I had the phone portion activated I was able to get on no problem.. but once the phone was activated I started having more problems. I wonder if Verizon did something with the activation? Disabled certain features?? Its definitely the hardware/software though, because I have a palm tx (that I'm selling if anyone is interested) and that connects to wi-fi no problem.. 100 times easier than the i730.. It was just a pain to carry both. I would call verizon, but most of the people who work there are idiots and probably dont know what wifi is! lol

In the paper this morning there was a cover story on how they are trying to set up Long Island to be fully wi-fi accessible too.. great for my laptop, not so much for my phone though! grrr

Alright.. I tried to make sure this isnt something on my end so I tried turning off all encryption and it connects (which wasn't the problem) but still getting the message "the page you are looking for cannot be found" This cannot be right! I think I am going to try a hard reset and see if it connects brand new.

ugh..

ill let you know what happens.. not that anyone cares lol

If you are running WM5 you don't need to upgrad voice signal -- the upgraded version is already in the new rom image.

And you dont need any hacks for Wi-Fi and phone together.

Think I figured out the culprit. Installed a battery program the first time it wasnt working but then it was fine. So I installed Batti yesterday and it worked for a while until all of a suddent it wouldnt connect. After uninstalling the program I can connect again. I'm going to try one more program! grrr
