Data Session Call Waiting (CPOP) - Get your calls while on 1x like EVDO
CPOP (Circuit Precedence over Packet Data) is a new feature that has been added to all 1X-capable devices at Verizon Wireless according to their website FAQ.
I understand it is already running in some zones. This will allow a call notification during a data session with 1x similar to that of the EVDO notification now.
I called Verizon about this, and this is the answer I received:
It went in to affect on June 21st, and for new customers it was ready and added to accounts (if you were new) on June 23rd. It will be added to all existing customers by July 15, as it can take up to 3 weeks from the June 23rd date to provision to all the accounts. So some of you might already have it, depending on when the provisioning takes place, otherwise it will happen by July 15.

Re the link.
If you look at the last question it gives a string to dial in order to make all calls go straight to voicemail when using data connection. So, ie, if for some strange reason someone is tethering an incoming call wont break the data connection.
The interesting thing is this looks like it should be active but when I try to activate and deactivate it, it doesn't work in my area:
Deactivate CPOP: Dial *7650 (Prevents Voice Call from interrupting Data Session)
Reactivate CPOP: Dial *765 (Allows Voice Call to Interrupt Data Session)
Can someone else do this and see what you get. I get the Verizon message about not being able to complete my call as dialed, so I guess they haven't rolled this out in my area yet.
This will make me switch to push e-mail if this comes true, so hopefully this will happen soon in my area.

I am on the phone with Verizon right now to see if I can get this feature added, since it doesn't seem to be added. I am curious if they can add it now, or if it's not out yet. I will let you know what happens when I get off the phone.

Same thing with me in Fort Lauderdale -- nothing. By the way, is there any way possible to surf the web via EVDO or 1x and at the same time make and receive calls (besides the wifi and phone hack by SD).
They are still unable to find the feature, but the CS Rep is talking to the WDS team and trying to find it. The WDS team said that this was not available on CDMA networks, but was available on some GSM carriers, then I pointed them to the FAQ.

C'mon - don't you just love when you get the chance to do that? The only more enjoyable method is to actually do it in the VZW store to a know-it-all rep there! (Hmmm.. maybe I'll make a print-out and walk on over to VZW store and have a little fun today! ... I know - I need to get out more!)
Yes it is fun, but then they gave me the answers I wanted when they looked a little harder... I hate that their first answers is "no, doesn't work, don't have it, not going to get it", then they look and go, "oh it is available, blah blah blah".
At least we got an answer and hopefully will have it by July 15. That will make the i730 even more valuable, since I don't do push e-mail because of being in a 1x network 80% of the time. This will be nice... very nice...
Also for those interested, to get to that page, click on Business, then in the upper right, click support, then click FAQ, and you will see it listed on the right hand side called Data Session Call Waiting (CPOP).
That's how I found it to show them, and then the girl searched for me. Even though the CS reps are mostly clueless, at least they are nice, apologize for keeping you on hold, speak English, and when they find the answer they are willing to do something about it. Even though you sometimes have to jump through hoops, at least I can talk to and understand the reps, and at least they know what I am saying when I get angry...
For all the complaining we do about the Verizon CS reps, I have yet to get a angry, mean, or hard to understand one. They might be clueless, but I don't mind teaching them their job when I get stuff for free, like 2000 SMS messages, and an occasional 100 minutes for my trouble. Then Verizon goes and does something like this, and redeems themselves a little...
So I have to applaud Verizon for this, and say I am happy they aren't charging for it...

Dialiing *765 connects, then announces "Your feature update was unsuccessful." Might have caught them in the middle of their updating. Will try again later.
Just off phone with WDTS and provisioning people. They can not find the feature anywhere. The guy emailed the data coordinator and is getting back to me. WDTS however tells me the feature is available and in my area, although it was rolled out, and rolled back a couple times nationally.
FYI the error msg I get here in LA is different then the 1 u all get. Mine says 'your service does not include use of this feature'.
Makes me wonder whether the "all customers" that they told MR really means all customers who have the additional subscription to VZW access, otherwise it won't load.
I would say it will just take their system some time to hit each account. If I don't have it by July 15, then I will call them up again and see about adding it. I do plan on NOT being very patient and will still call every couple of days to see if they can find it and get it on my account sooner, but I will be nice about it, and then on July 15, push a little harder if it hasn't happenend...
