Has ANYBODY been able to download and install the "official" official WM5 on a previous background of the "unofficial" official? I have not seen anybody claiming to having done this. I tried repeatedly and the device is listed as "non-qualified". I tried the approach of using the "VEU4.exe"/mode=emergency mentioned in the instructions (last page) for failed attempts. Windows XP will not let me name the shortcut as required in the Verizon instruction sheet (end of page 12). Has ANYBODY been successful? If so, how?
You need to make sure you insert a space after the .exe"
I called to add this service earlier today and it wouldn't go through. It took about 15 to 20 minutes before the CSR came back and told me that support services is working on it. They started a trouble ticket and said they would call me when it was working. Has anyone else here attempted to go "Legal" for BroadBand Access

I didn't go legal for access, just giving the information on how to....
I am very content with either PDANet or YH25...

I have been very happy with PDANet as well. I just can't really go into a disconnected for abuse status. With my luck it would happen in the middle of a lunch/diner meeting . I would be opening a VISIO file or something of the like and "bang" no service. Just more hassle than i want to deal with.
Thanks for the info. Well see how it goes.

Hate to sound so blunt, but! If you think VZW still won't shut you down for excessive access you are badly mistaken. They're shutting people down with AirCards and using their i730's under normal circumstances..
The 'legal' way which you are putting so much security into is just that VZW figured out how to build a radio stack that would force you to pay for it instead of having an option.
Just called to add the teather feature which took a while but he added it. Now I am posting via leget teather mode via my MAC (yes it does charge now). Just hope they dont cancel me for to much use.
I am thinking this(teathering) maybe why they waited for the offical release instead of a new rebuild of the package.
Yes, I am using a Mac Book Pro and it is charging via the USB Cable either teathered or not.
Are you talking about the USB Cable in the cradle, or with a different USB cable, like the ones from MacMedia?

Sorry if this is repetitive but i did search and can't seem to get a straight answer on this.......
I understand the versions (SD, unofficial and official)are the same EXCEPT the upgraded radio. However, is there any benefit to the upgraded radio? That would cause anyone to want to go to the official/official upgrade?
Wow! with all the problems people had upgrading I thought for sure Verizon would not release this "as is". Hopefully the installer is a little more robust. Also, with the speed stepping, Active sync 4.1, SMS-AUTD, battery and WiFi issues, etc. etc. etc. I was really hoping they would fix all these things. I know there are solutions to many of these problems due to the smart people on this website but it would be nice for it to work properly "out of the box" and not require quite so many fixes.
Even though I need tethering I may have to try this official upgrade just to see if the newer radio (my WM5 is still at YE05 due to failed radio upgrade) solves some of my issues.
If PDAnet can get around the tethering issue is it possible for someone (smarter than me) to develop a hack to do the same thing?
Also to use one i730 but sometimes tethered to different laptops would I need more than one license of PDAnet?
The difference between YH25 and YE05 have been posted before (by me in another thread), and as posted in one of the other WM5 "release" threads (but I know it's heavily buried), there doesn't seem to be any difference between YH25 and ZB21 (the one from the official release) except for the "lack" of tethering without paying Verizon $15/month, and using the VZAccess software. So I have yet to find anything different between YH25 and ZB21 except for tethering "natively" with windows.
Now I just did a hard reset again to test some other software, and installed PDANet's trial (I didn't have any luck with it before). With my i730 hard reset, with NO Samsung USB Modem drivers, AND using ZB21 firmware, I AM ONLINE using PDANet software. So even if you perform the "official" upgrade you can use PDANet to gain access to Verizon's 1x/EVDO service through tethering. Now if you have ZB21 and AREN'T USING PDANET, then you WON'T be able to tether without some 3rd party software (like PDANet), or without paying $15/month to Verizon, and using the Samsung USB Drivers and the VZAccess Software.

I am also on the official upgrade with ZB21. I like PDANet because it lets me keep the device connected while using Activesync. that, to me, is wort the cost of entry. Originally, PDANet did not support my VPN, but they came out with the current release and it does. I feel it is worth the money. VZW, on the other hand, is price gouging. I really wish there were network alternatives to VZW in the US. Since all advantage is temporary, it will just be a matter of time.
