So..... for those of us who already have the "unofficial/official" upgrade to WM5, will this new exe file work, or is it only good for those who still carry WM2003 on their phone? Even though the newly posted file on Vzw may be the same as the one we tried, there are too many people who have WM5 with various degrees of instability. All of us in this category are going (or want to) try the "official/official" version, regardless of how similar it is to what we have.
Does anybody have an answer?
The version #s are the same as before. The other interesting thing is that Broadband Access is official supported. Which is the reason why tethering was disabled in the new radio firmware so that they can now charge you $15 for Broadband Access. If you want to be legitimate just call to have Broadband Access added to your account and download VZAccess Manager:
As for any differences between the "unofficial/official" and "official/official" versions, ran a program called Beyond Compare against the actual code in the two .img files, and the analysis reports an EXACT MATCH.
i downloaded the VZAccess Maanger and there was a note that read (i chose Wireless Handset instead of PDA and chose the Samsung A930):
Note: for using the Samsung i730 for BroadbandAccess Connect (tethered mode), please set the Data Connections settings to "USB" before connecting the device to your PC for tethered access:
From the main screen (also called the Today Screen), simply select "Start" then select "Settings" then select the "Systems" tab, select icon "Data Connections" then select "As the Modem through USB". Click "ok" (top right hand corner.
To revert back the Data Connections settings:
From the main screen (also called the Today Screen), simply select "Start" then select "Settings" then select the "Systems" tab, select icon "Data Connections" then select "Internal Data call". Click "ok" (top right hand corner.

Does anyone know if they're doing this update in the stores as well? I've tried calling 3 locals with no answer. I'd rather not have to do this on the phones of everyone in my company, and I also don't want to be responsible for bricking anything.
Just got news that they are working on getting the drivers up to the VZWAccess Manager page. So an official driver will be released by Verizon as well for the i730 CDMA. Should be the same as the one available from Samsung. But for those that need the official officila stay tuned.

I just checked the site and it does not have the i730 listed, so I am asking for more clarity and I will report back when I get the message.
Trinergy, I think you're on to something with the Broadband Access support. I've been in Canada with my phone since December, where roaming didn't work, and Verizon offered no hope for relief. When I updated last month to WM5 off the website my phone began roaming in Montreal just like it was meant to! I've also been billed at the advertised broadband roaming rate of 0.002c per KB for that first couple of weeks, which I expected. Perfect!!
I just flashed mine from the previous "official" VZW WM5 upgrade to the now Official official version. I had to use the VersionID.txt file to accomplish the flash. Here is what I ended up with checking the About screen
Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14928.2.2.0)
I also attemtped to reflash the device to WM2003 but so far I was not able to do so. I tried the renaming the target option as stated which did not work for me. I was using ActiveSync 4.1.. I will attempt the 2003 reflash using Active Sync 3.8 next.

tritonman,
What does your upgraded phone show when you go to Settings->System->Version for the PDA and Phone? Curious if it is the same as mine with the Previous Official WM5. Thanks.
verizon just updated their website for VZAccess Manager with the i730 drivers on their www.vzam.net website. They tell me that the drivers need to be extracted separately and when the systems searches you have to point it the where you extracted it. I am on the train when I got the email but I did use the i730 to go and did indeed see the i730 listed. You should uninstall any other version of vzam. So if someone gets the chance check it and report back. Otherwise I will.
The .exe files are slightly different (different file lengths). So if the .img files are the same, it sounds like the delay was related to a problem with the .exe installer.
Just upgraded from SD WM5 using method on post #12, works just fine.. don't need version.txt Just make sure you uninstall samsung drivers. and all is fine.

Have you tried to install the ePIM software on the Official version? it wouldn't run on my downgraded radio version.
