Does anyone know if it is possible to change the location of the inbox database file? I know that you can change the location of the attachments folder, but is it possible to change the location of the actual inbox database itself?
I'm asking because I have ALOT of email, and contacts, and everything else I sync via activesync. If i can put this all on an exernal 4GB SD card, then I can get much of the room on my device back, and also have MUCH more room to store emails, etc.
I would sure like to know this location, also. I don't have access to a machine with Outlook, and I'm trying to move everything from my old busted i730 to my new one.
The database files aren't accessible on the phone or with Windows. They aren't something you can just copy off the phone and to another. Really the only way to do it is to use something like Sprite Backup or SPB Backup and then do a restore to the new device. All of the mail, contacts, calendar, etc. database files are not able to be accessed directly.

OK, this is not exactly what you are asking for but this text below which I posted a long time ago explains how to change the registry to reroute the email body as well as the attchments to the SD card. The database file I suppoe would stay in the main memory but at least everything else goes to your 4GB SD card.....
Alternative location for email attachments (WM5 confirmed)
OK, I initally tried to find some posts that would show an easy way to redirect the storage of the emails and their attachments and could not find anything. Then good old google did the trick and I found the following post. Hope this helps anybody with the same question.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Storing your email on your SD card (Smart Phone WM5)
Open RegEdit and find registry key...
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI
Add the following two "strings", if not already in place
Value Name: Value Data:
AttachPath \storage card\mail\attachments
Value Name: Value Data:
PropertyPath \storage card\mail
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Your original email location is most likely under : windows\messaging and subdir \attachments.
All you need to do is to cut and past the entire directory \messaging and dump it into the "storage card\email\" folder and your set.

...which is what I ended up doing, with SPB. The last time I tried this, the restore complained that I was restoring to a different device, and that this wouldn't work. I indeed had trouble with some applications that wouldn't work, etc. Don't know what I did wrong that time, but this time I just installed WM5 (it came with WM2003), installed all the applications from ActiveSynch, then ran the latest SPB restore before doing anything else and voila, everything's back (app settings, email, calendar entries, contacts, everything).
In this case, I couldn't do anything on the old phone, since the display was smashed, so fiddling with the registry etc. was out of the question. Fortunately, my backups were set up on my storage card, so it was an easy move.
