Any way to install wm5 WITHOUT a PC?

Hi, all.

I have been sitting on the upgrade sideline waiting and seeing what everyone else has experienced. As best as I can tell, the major downsides (if you consider them such) is the speed issue - which is solved by SuperDave's speed stepper, but is no longer automatcally adjusted as in wm2003se, and the tethering, which is fixed by downgrading the radio...

Anyhow, as a mac user, I try not to use a PC for anything. Is there anyway to upgrade my phone WITHOUT using a PC or VirtualPC on a Mac?

If not, has anyone upgraded using VirtualPC? Has it goine smoothly?

Thanks.
...with hopes of joing the wm5 ranks soon...

I wouldn't take the change by trying to update using VirtualPC. I would just find someone with a PC and do the upgrade. I just wouldn't take the chance...

Buy a new Mac with an Intel processor and set it up for Dual Boot with WinXP then do the upgrade?

Sounds expensive but a great way to keep your MacOS with the ability to do important XP features, like this.

Can't afford/justify the new intel Mac's. So, I will just borrow a pc and do this. Thanks for the advice.

I have been looking through ALL the many threads about the upgrade. All I need to do is download the upgrade and run it, correct?

And it wipes out everything in the process? Or should I hard reset and then run the upgrade?

(I don't think I saw answers to those questions..but I may have just missed it.)

Thanks.

Borrow a PC, make sure the current OS is at least XP (Home or Pro), grab a copy of ActiveSync 4.1 From M$ for free, also make backups of all your PIM (contacts, calender, notes, etc) first.

Install the ActiveSync, plug the phone in, wait for driver to install, it might just ask you for a relationship ... set it up as if you want to sync with the PC... then run the installer. Follow the screen instructions, don't dismount the DMG or get confused with the Windows logo on the keyboard, don't panic if there is no Apple logo on the keyboard neither, and yeah... the mouse has two or three buttons.

Should be alright, if not... check the forum and there is lots of answer. BTW I'm kidding about dismounting the DMG and the input devices, and if the whole screen turns into blue... that's Kernel Panic for PC. Good luck my friend!
