I would bet you aren't getting 2.4 MBps over EVDO. I could see your computer registering 2.4 Mbps (notice the small 'b'). But in reality your actual throughput will most likely be different.
The differenct between the small 'b' and the big 'B' is the small is bits and the big is Bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so if you registered 80 Kbps then you would have 10 KBps. I just wanted to clarify that so someone reading your post wouldn't take it the wrong way.
You should not go by what windows is telling you, you should go someplace like dslreports.com to check the speed that you are transferring files. I bet it will be between 300-700 Kbps, which seems to be the average of EVDO with any device. A T1 line is 1540 Kbps or 1.54 Mbps (just for information).

when I "see someone" tethering here in the "middle of 1X nowhere" he gets around 150-300 kbps, but even here dsl is slow compared to many usually just between 400-650 kbps. I "saw" a guy tethering at Hopkins Airport in Cleveland where EVDO is available and he got 950kbps SMOKIN!!
I don't know what's going on here... I am getting better throughputs with PdaNet... Unless Verizon has changed something in my area in the last 24 hours, it must be the phone upgrade and/or PdaNet..

2.4Mbps is the speed of the connection between the phone and the computer. NOT the speed of the phone's connection to the Internet. Same as a router, when connected most say 100Mbps, because that's the speed of the network data transfer rate (inter-network), but you're not getting 100 Mbps from the Internet.
I came across this thread and I am wonder what is the bandwidth around my area? I used dslreports.com for a test. The result is surprisingly good. I am getting 700kbs to 980kbs. If my signal strength was one or two bars, I will get an average of 700kbs. If all bars, I am getting over 900kbs. I did the test at several locations. I am impress..
Better PDANet speed with YE05 & WM2003 than WM5 & ZB21
I was playing around last night with PDANet (1.72) with my i730 (USB tethering on WinXP SP2) before upgrading and found dslreports reporting 1066kbps / 115 kbp up. This was WM2003/YE05 combination. I repeated the test several times and my downlaod was consistently above 980 kbps. Completely amazed as the speed, I upgraded to the standard WM5 upgrade and repeated the test to only get 725 kbps at the most. Most times it was in the 600 kbps range. Anyone experience something similar? I am consider downgrading the radio back to YE05 and testing again? Pro/Cons?
I wanted to use the upgraded radio driver to see if I could improve my bluetooth DUN speed and reliability with PDANet or btmodem. I can say that the reliability is better but I am still capped at 220 kbps on the download with my Macbook Pro. I tried changing the modem init script to use 460800 as the connection speed but I get the same results. FYI... The bt-modem solution goes down sooner than PDAnet solution however, I do not know if screwed up a dominancy timer during the trials. The bt-modem solution worked better for me when using WM2003/YE05.
Is it a limitation of the SCH-i730 bluetooth stack or the radio hardware? If it hardware limitation, I am not going to trying tweaking the stack. Any comments?
Additionally thanks to SD, mrailing & the rest of the list contributors. This forum got me up to speed on my i730 very quickly. For the last 8 months, I have basically been using it an e-mail device/phone/paper weight. I am finally unlocking the power of this device with the help of this forum.
