WM5: How to downgrade radio stack to fix tethering.
For those wanting to downgrade to YH25's radio stack to get tethering working the Samsung PST software will allow you to do it. I just downgraded mine and now my tethering works fine.
THIS WILL HARD RESET YOUR PHONE, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP.
To do so....
Set your phones data mode to "as the modem".
Open the PST that is with the SD WM5 release (it can be downloaded from post 4 of this thread ..http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=69514 )
and goto the SW tab.
Change the software download option to "Phone only".
Click open file browse to the YH25 image (
You can download this here http://download.vzwshop.com/vzw/sams...ce_Release.exe, open it with winzip or winrar to extract the .img)
Click start download , the code is 000000 follow on screen instructions and after the reset option, hold down the phone send and end keys while resetting to get the phone into PDA emergency mode.
The pst software will do the rest from there.

So Dave let me get this straight this could also upgrade your radio too correct by using the new file if you already sdwm5'ed your phone and you don't want to go through all of the reinstall right?
What are the benefits of the newer radio file?
is there any differences? bluetooth, evdo, wifi, phone?
I have not tested this, but, I would think you could use this to upgrade to ZB21 if the upgrade failed to do it. The radio only effects the phone, not WIFI or BT. Not sure if there are any other benefits/changes to the ZB21 radio. I have been using YH25 with WM5 from the beginning and have had no problems.
John_k,
Yeah using the YH25 phone image will restore the tethering capibility. I am not sure if vzw was intentionaly trying to block it, or it was a bug but ZB21's radio does not tether without additional software.
Dude, usually don't question a lot but is anybody else having problems following this link? D, as soon as you posted this it went down; the only thing that appears is a oops msg...

You guys have been all so great thanks again!
The only reason I have seen to go official is the added boot images "MITs" and a VERY FAST splash of the Verizon Wireless logo. That is the ONLY difference b/t dave's and the "official".
Just remember, you will have to do this downgrade if you want tethering.
I realize that what I'm going to ask addresses an issue not intended by this patch, but I'm having a heck of a time getting my phone to hard reset. WM5 is running super slow (even with SD's speedstep patch), my phone module is not setting up properly after soft reboot, plus there are other issues. Would applying this patch force the hard reset that I'm trying to accomplish? And does a hard reset give me a shot at getting my phone to perform better? Or do I need to give up and see if I can get a new phone from Verizon tech support?

Sorry to be dense, but what is the PST? I downloaded the SDWM5 release and extracted all the files - I see i730pstpluginYE05\setup.exe and samsungpstlite\setup.exe. Or is it something completely different? I didn't see a software tab - just a straight install.
SD, You know, I forgot to mention this before but that DLL that you're supposed to replace if you HAVE WM2003SE and YH25.. Should people be replacing that for this downgrade, or just installing the standard PST package with the original DLL for YE05?
Don't wanna see people bricking their phones from a bad DLL.
