OK it seems I needed to uninstall activesync 4.1...
Exactly the same thing happened to me. As soon as I uninstalled AS 4.1, all was well.

For what it's worth, I'm running Windows XP with SP2.

Help! Incopmpatibility Problem.

I am trying to downgrade to tether and can't because:

1. The Verizon Maintenance Program won't allow me to unzip the i730.2.6V.YH25A.img file due to incompatibility with ActiveSync 4.2 (now on PC).

2. I can't find a version of ActiveSync 4.1 anywhere to download

3. ActiveSync 3.8 (which I have) is not compatible with WM5 (on my phone)

Can anyone e-mail i730.2.6V.YH25A.img to bwilson@newirelessservices.com and/or provide a suggestion to work-around this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Have you read the instructions on how to downgrade to tether? Once you have WM5 on your phone you use the original Samsung PST Lite software and extract the YH25A image file (using something like WinRAR). If you load WinRAR, just open WinRAR and then tell it to open the exe file you download from Verizon. Once you do that they you will have the file, and can use the Samsung Software.

You don't need Activesync 4.1 to load the downgrade, but if you feel you really do need it, then a quick google search gave me this link:

http://www.download.com/ActiveSync/3...-10500222.html

It's still AS 4.1...

Thank you for your assistance.

I read the instructions and unfortunately, the Verizon Maintenance download was not a .zip file it was a self-extracting .exe file that checked the extant software for compatibility before extracting the YH25A file.

Apparently, this is not compatible with ActiveSync 4.2 so it wouldn't extract.

Thanks again for your assistance.

ActiveSync 4.1 installed, but now I can't extract the YH25A file because the Verizon Maintenance extract program says that the OS on my phone is higher than what's available in the Maintenance Utility!

Frustrating!

Since I have the "white screen" problems with WM5 too, I'm going to try to get Verizon to give me another phone.

Like I just said, and is in the first post. You need to use software like WinRAR or WinZIP to extract the EXE. Re-read my post. I know it's not a zip extension, but either of those two programs are able to open "some" exe files, like ones that are self extracting.

Like I said in the previous post. You don't need AS 4.1, you just need to pull the image file from the self extracting exe using a software program like WinRAR....

Hooray! I'm re-tethered!

Took a while to figure out that the phone was connected to COM7, but in the end it all worked as described.

Michael, thank you for suffering my idiocy.

Just wanted to say I ran through this process after reading the entire thread as well as 90% of the WM5 upgrade Threads and the How to set up the phone as a USB modem thread and everything worked perfectly the very first time through. Thanks SD and mrailing as well as everyone else to contributed to this thread. Just thought I would list some of the things I did that may have contributed to my first time success.

Started with full VZ WM5 upgrade. (speedstep not installed...yet)
dowloaded and installed samsung MCCI drivers (reset computer)
hooked phone up to computer in USB modem mode and let windows automatcally install the modem (reset computer)
dowloaded and installed Samsung PST light
dowloaded and installed samsung i730 PST plugin (reset computer)
downloaded YH25 image file (using the supplied vzwshop link and unzipping the .exe file with winzip
Uninstalled Activesync before "downgrading" phone stack (reset computer)
unplugged power cable to cradle before "downgrading" phone stack
reset phone (practiced putting the phone into emergency mode several times)
followed SD & Cr0n_J0b's instructions
Did not change any com port settings
used the bent paperclip trick to put the phone in emergency pda mode in the cradle
Everything worked from there

Thanks again

Just thought I'd post this for posterity.
THANK YOU. I couldn't get this to work on my replacement also until I went to COM5.

After I try downgrading the radio stack on my phone it did not complete success. Now I can't no longer turn on the phone radio. If I try to re-run the process when I plugin the phone to my pc the device is not recognize. Please let me know if I can do anything to fix this.

You need to follow the emergency procedures for WM5 and using the Verizon app to completely restore WM5 to your device. Those procedures are listed in the FAQ or on the dts.vzw.com page.

There are other threads on here about the 2% issue. Look at the original upgrade threads for the Verizon installer for that solution.

Here's a tip that cost me an hour to figure out.

To enter emergency mode.

Press reset and THEN hold down both buttons. Don't hold them down first, or it won't work. At least it didn't for me.

Have I successfully completed the downgrade if my pda/phone info is as follows:
pda version
S:i730.WM5.2.6V.ZB21.14928
phone version
S:i730.2.6V.YE05

I was able to get a connection on my pc and laptop thru USB. but I changed around my home network and deleted the internet setting. then I was unable to even get my phone to sync with my desktop. got that back but still I only get error 692 when I try to dial up an internet connection. I know the phone links via usb because the pst doftware can read the info when it is connected thru USB.

oh yeah... I lost my soft keys functionality too. its so frustrating I keep hitting them and they do not correspond with what is written on the screen. can't find a link to a fix for it. I did see that there are a few links to posts but nothing that looked like a complete fix. how did I have it working last time when I did the verizon WM5 upgrade if that is essentially the same as the one I just installed.

Hi All,

I'm a newbie and for some reason the links in post #4 (at http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ions-only.html) to the PST files don't work. Are the files available somewhere else? I'm hoping to do the WM5 upgrade and then the phone downgrade.

Thanks!

I'm having the issue where when I do the downgrade using the PST software, i am able to soft reset (cradled) using the paperclip trick, into emergency mode (after I click OK on the prompt)... The PC then pops up asking to install drivers for a new device found (SCH-i730).. browsing out to the drivers folder doesnt work either. Before going to do the soft reset, and after setting it to use as usb modem.. XP detects the driver just fine.. its after the reset into emergency mode that things go awry.

Has anyone run into this and know of a fix?

I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Update: I managed to get it to downgrade, after i installed activesync beta 4.5;

Problem: So i've downgraded, my phone shows s:i730.2.6V.YH25 now, I'm assuming this is good... however, if I try to cradle the device (running Wm5), it does show up with the modem in device manager on XPsp2 (if i first switch the phone into "as the modem through USB")... but if i try to connect using #7772 and qnc, qnc, the phone doesnt respond.. the connection dialer errors out. If i goto device manager and select the modem there, and query it, it responds fine though.

I also cannot get it to connect via bluetooth, I've tried using btmodem on the pda, exposing the DUN, but when I try to check off the DUN in XP, I get a "parameter is incorrect" error message.

So neither BT DUN or USB DUN will work after downgrading.. I'm not sure what I've done wrong here...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
