Okay here is a strange thing for all (don't recommend all try it), but I was finally able to get the official downloaded and decided to update from the SD version (just was tired of the white screen of death at reset, other than that loved the SD version). I updated and then decided to revert the phone side back as I hate when they take something away from me for no reason (I don't tether, but hated to be told what I can and can't do by big brother and this way the option is there if ever needed). I downloaded and extracted the maintenance uprgade. This is where things get different.

I read through the directions posted here many times over, so I thought I had it all down pat. Forgot one little step, the put into USB modem step . Guess what though..... it worked flawlessly anyway. I was able to revert back and it went through without a hitch. I don't recommend others do the same, but was wondering if anyone else had it work without putting the device into usb modem mode and if by missing this step it may have changed or altered something else along the way. Have made a few calls without a hitch. Just food for thought for other people.

Angry Errors

Thought i did the downgrade correctly, but can't connect.

Is there a way to verify? I have s:i730.2.6V.YH25

When I try to USB tether, I get "Dialing #777...then *99#... then Error 668, sometimes Error 692.

I do have upath changed to data (usb modem), & have read all this thread and the "VZW WM5 tethering does not work!" thread. Haven't changed anything on laptop, but software add to update/downgrade phone. Worked fine before wm5/phone upgrade.

Any helps would be greatly apprecated.

Question

I am a new member but have been veiwing for almost a year now ever since I got my i730. I love the device and am really excited about the WM5 upgrade. I made the jump using the official version and want to "downgrade" my radio. I have downloaded all the software required in the posts and am at the point to reset after clickin ok. When I push the reset button and the the red and green buttons simultaneously I get the emergecy pda line. After that i get nothing. The phone stays on the MITS screen with the emergency line and the programdoes not find the phone. Any help would be appreciated. SD, Mrailing and all other contributors are really great and this forum would definately be the worse without them. Kepp up the great work!!!!

Great post for fleshing it out.

However on my PSTLite, the Start Downloading button is a Stop button by now. And no matter how quickly I get my phone into PDA Emergency Mode, I always get the [PDA] Not Found message.

EDIT: After fifteen tries per day for 5 days, moved to a different machine, and be sure the cradle goes directly to machine's USB port. Boxwave USB cable does seems to be marginal, so I used the cradle.

Now I have to see if I get dropped data or calls now!

How long did you end up having to wait (rough estimate)? I have been trying this all day and I can get into the pda emergency mode just fine but then I get the same error...

Found PDA
Eboot version ok, then
Phone Download Start

And it never gets past this. I am still trying but I figured that I would ask while doing so what the rough time frame is on completion of getting the software on. Also I am using the trickle charge USB cable and not the one on the docking station that ships with the phone, could this effect the outcome?

Thanks for any feedback while I watch my phone do... who knows.

P.S. It should show the radio version being used in the version ID correct?

OK, i can't get this to work. I have it set to COM3. I can get it to read the info.

Once I click ok, reset, get into PDA Emergency Mode, shortly after it says "device not found".

Any advice would be appreciated... i need tethering!! Thanks, --Bill

I am having the same exact dilemma as I try to use this method to get YH25 radio on an upgraded WM5 when I bombed out at 73% and only ended up with a ZB21 PDA with old 05 radio. It seems like the COM port and all is good, but the "Waiting Phone Download" screen just stays there and the PST program is not showing any progress. Only time I saw SD respond on this was when they needed to go with Emergency Mode, which we are doing...

Success!! Finally

Well, I just had success getting the YH25 phone only update for my system that was hung on YE05 for the phone after successfully doing the ZB21 WM5 update for the PDA. Used this process with the guidance from SD and the nice description from CrOn_jOb in post #56. Still, this took hours to try many different ways to get the thing to DL from PST. Finally had success on a different computer after 8 tries on that one. Still, that was a fraction of the number of tries I had on the first PC.

In hindsight, I would have been best off to have done the 2003 update to YH25 and then have failed the phone portion that many have problems with due to the crappy Verizon installer on the "Official Release" I hadn't really planned on going through this pain to enable tethering, but once I decided YE05 was not current enough (for no apparent reason I guess) it was just as simple to do the YH25 instead of ZB21 for the phone....

The i730 WM2003 YH25 Maintenance Release that you just posted is working just fine for me.

You can also go to:

http://dts.vzw.com

and scroll to the bottom of the page and just click the link for it, and it will download...

Accidently downgraded to YE05

When performing the downgrade I must have accidently selected the wrong image file and ended up with YE05.

I should have read the post dedicated to this because I forgot to replace the dll and that is how I ended up with YE05. The strange thing is that I unistalled Activesync and the modem drivers are working properly. SamsungPSTlite sees the phone and is able to get the info off of the phone (SW version, etc..) but once I get the phone in PDA Emergency mode the download Eboot is verified and it hangs on the waiting for download screen.

Any ideas?

what is lost?

I am curious to know what do you sacrifice when you downgrade your radio so that you can tether.
Thanks,
