Going to try it on a Win2K machine tonight, to see if I have any better luck.

Side question: in PST, should the Samsung i730 line appear even if the phone isn't actually connected to the PC? Because it is on mine, and I thought that sort of odd.
Odd problem... ActiveSync is uninistalled on every PC you're trying? (Talking out of my arse here, just helping to eliminate other sources of interference)

Exclamation What is Tethering and why do I need it?

I have read a gozillion (putting on my Forrest Gump act) messages and have yet to find a definition of Tethering. I am trying to figure out if I NEED to downgrade (after upgrading to WM5) the radio.

If you connect to the internet using your laptop connected to your phone via USB in the phone's data mode **UPATH, you are "tethering". This is typically done to save people money on the road that don't wanna pay for WiFi fees or be forced to use their phone's browser for browsing.

At the bottom of SamsungPST it says

Found PDA
Eboot version ok, then
Phone Download Start

and my PDA says "Waiting Phone Download" and then they just sit there. The phone afterward does hard reset... but the phone version stays the same. This is rather disappointing.

Hi All got mine working - it has to do with the port - and getting the unit into emergency mode flawlessly the first time - after pressing the ok button instructing you to press the reset hole.

My PST programming came up on com 5 as a default... but I tried com 6 and com 3 following the instructions. I think PST knows which port to use and defaults to that port. When I used com 5 it worked fine and programmed no problem (after practicing emergency mode )...Thanks a bunch to SD and mrailing!!!!!!!

Three questions I hope someone can answer.

1) Are there multiple versions of PSTLite? When I downloaded the SD WM5 archive and extracted PSTLite from it, it *did* place shortcuts to itself in the Start Menu. Everyone seems to say that it didn't do that for them.

2) After the i730 plugin for PST is installed, the .dll file is put into SamsungPST/Models. An i730 folder and some subfolders off of that are also created there. Are there supposed to be any files in any of those folders?

3) (I asked this before, but don't think I got an answer) Should the "Samsung i730" line appear in PST if the phone isn't plugged in?

Thanks, all.

Did you ever get past this problem? I am having the save problem but mine doesn't even do the hard reset. Both the phone and pst just sit there forever.

I got it to work on the tenth try or so.

I think maybe I wasn't giving it enough time to finish. I'll never know.

I went to another machine at work and did the downgrade successfully. For some reason it was not working on my desktop.

If you all are having problems with this. Follow my instructions for the SD WM5 install. They are detailed and tell you how to get everything going. Instead of choosing PDA, choose Phone, instead of choosing the WM5 install, choose the YH25A firmware file. Everything else should be "roughly" the same.

Still no luck here. I actually figured on the second install I tried, "hey, the instructions should be about the same as the SD install, I'll try that." Same problem.

And I just tried it on a W2K machine (SP4). Exact same problem -- "Debug Assertion Failed" on trying to double-click on the i730 in PST.

If anyone could answer the three questions I posted earlier, just to make sure everything's OK as far as the SW install goes, I'd appreciate it. Should take about 2 minutes of somebody's time to look in the right directory, and fire up PST without a phone plugged in. Thanks in advance.

slinkygn

have you tried to download another copy of the SD WM5 package? Try downloading it again from a different mirror and see if that install works any better.

Thank you for the help, Michael.

I've tried the three mirrors in post 4 of the SD WM5 install thread:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69514

I don't know if there are any other mirrors, though. No luck so far.

I was having the same problems as above. I let my computer and phone sit at the [Phone] Download Start and the "waiting phone download" screen for over 1 hr and then tried again all day for about the last 12 hrs trying it. Luckly for voicemail. I tried it on 2 different machines and about 20+times. No luck. It always hangs at the [Phone] Download Start or something like this in the bottom left hand corner of the PST program.
