Great job as always SD, but I had lots of confusion, since i never started with your awesome SDWM5 release...so for those like me I added a bit wording clarity...
All taken from the first post, but filled out a bit. (props to dave)
Set your phones data mode to "as the modem".
To do this, go to START->SETTING->Choose [SYSTEM] Tab, Choose the Data Connect icon. Open the fancy new data connection program (which you will be using later to switch your phone mode...no more **path), and select "As the modem through USB" radio button.
Download the full upgrade files that SD built and are found at this thread.
http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=69514 )
Open this file up with your favorite zip program.
unzip the i730pstpluginYE05.zip file and the samsungpstlite.zip file
Load both of these applications to your PC. I'm not sure of the order, but I loaded the samsunglite then the plugin. This gives you the modem connection software and the i730 profile that you need for the later steps.
Download the maintenance release image file from VZN.
http://download.vzwshop.com/vzw/sams...ce_Release.exe, and unzip to a directory you will remember.
Run the PSTlite program from your C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SamsungPST directory. NOTE: This app doesn't put shortcuts anywhere so you have to launch from here.
once started you should see a very simple screen with a picture of the i730/i830 in the left box and "SCH-I730" in the right box. If you don't see this, check USB cable connections, check to make sure that you have the samsung Modem software loaded (this is found on the FAQ for tethered phone. 20041203154250265_Samsung_MCCI_Driver_416.exe)...and make sure that you have in fact upgraded to WM5.
now...
Click on the SCH-I730 icon on the PSTlite app (right window pane)
this should bring up a funky menu type screen. Choose the "SW" button on the left (light blue)
In the drop-down box choose "phone only"
now hit the browse button (Open file) and select the location where you unzipped the maintenance release software and choose the i730.2.6V.YH25A.img file.
Click Software Download button...and get a prompt for the port...mine was set to COM6 and in the box read "Check the Current USB port Again!!!"
I switched to Com3...and got a box titled "Input MSL Code". Here you type the 000000 (that's 6 zeros, not 5 and not 7...certainly not 3, but 6 zeros and nothing else). click ok.
Now you get the "click 'OK' and press the reset hole to continue"
Do this, BUT...WAIT...HOLD BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT PHONE KEYS AT THE RIGHT AFTER YOU RESET (this is a test of dexterity) so...here is what I did...
the phone was connected with USB cable...I placed it horizontal with the antenna pointing left, with my right hand and pointer i pushed the reset button, while my left thumb and index finger sat waiting on the green and red labled buttons...then just after...not before...not during... but just after pushing the reset button, I pushed down on the buttons (both at the same time) and was greeted with a the white lable on the MITS screen indicating "emergency mode". It took me twice to figure this out...if it happen like this you will get an error screen...start over and relax this time.
You should see the screen on the PSTlite clicking away the percents...but if you don't...check the USB port. For some reason I saw a post that got me to switch to Com3 since the dialog box scared me by saying " Check the Current USB port Again!!!" I mean...3 exclamation points? WOW, so I swithed it to COM3...and waited for the update...I got an error...and had to reset and start over again...I did this twice before figuring that SD knows best and I left it at COM6.
If you do it right...
You click the start downloading button on the PC PSTlite program screen and let the rest happen...go have a coffee...don't stare at the white "waiting phone download" screen, you'll start asking questions for which you don't have answers.
In the end you get a update completed on the PC and the phone reboots with friendly tones...tap through the alignment page and you should be ready to test.
Remember to go back to the "data connection" icon in the setting to set you phone to UBS modem, before testing. Then...just connect...works great.
By the way, If you tried connecting without the right software on the phone you get a password authentication error.
Thanks Dave for your work...I'm back in business!
