The WM5 upgrade FAQ in the Yellow header at the top of the page:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...6-24-06-a.html

Check out #11...

Then go to dts.vzw.com, and download the Verizon installer, and follow those steps in #11.

Hi mrailing,

Thanks, I have been trying this method, but I get the same problem I had doing it the regular way. The phone goes ok up to the point "waiting phone downloadum" close to the end, and then the USB device not recognized in the system tray pops up.

I have been trying to get this to work for 2 days straight. Any suggestions at this point? I appreciate your help.

Best.

Btw, I have tried this on 2 different machines.

Make sure you are on using a USB port directly connected to the computer, and try and try again. How long are you waiting after you get the unrecognized error. This is a common error, and if I remember correct, you just have to wait a bit, and it should reconnect.

Just keep trying it, following the steps exactly as they have it, and you might try it on a third machine, maybe a different branded machine (like if you are using Dell, try something different).

Send a message via Yahoo to crashdau

I just recently did this and I missed a few things the first few times I tried. I had the same issue...."waiting phone download" until I uninstalled Activesunv and tried COM5. Then everything worked for me.

Hey guys,

I'm talking about the emergency mode to reinstall WM5, not the downgrade radio stack issue. But either way I can't get those USB drivers recognized. When trying to downgrade I get an unrecognized device with or without Activesync installed and when I try to reinstall WM5 (which you need Activesync to do) it goes fine all the way up to "waiting phone downloadum", I don't know why it says "um" at the end, probably an error. I suppose I can format a hard disk and try it from a clean install, but other than that I'm screwed.

If you guys have any other suggestions I would appreciate it. It seems like the main problem is just to get those damn USB drivers recognized. I don't understand why it's such a bitch on these machines and everyone else seems to be having it easy. Maybe there's some ridiculous little step that I'm missing?

Thanks again.

Oh, and btw, when trying to reflash WM5 the reflash app times out awhile after I get the "USB device not recognized" error in the system tray.

Do a little reading, you have to pull it out, hit the reset, and quickly put it back in the device. Or you can take a paper clip and bend it to just press the hole in the cradle. Start at the beginning of this thread and read through it...

Thanks, thats what I have been trying to do, but it says it can't find the phone, no matter what com port I have tried, although in the thread it seems com3 is a popular one that works?

I concluded that it was saying device not found because I was pulling it out of the cradle.
