Has anyone tried to get WM 5 (or 6 at this point) directly from Microsoft or Samsung?
I had a talk with a higher tier rep today, at Verizon Wireless. We were on the phone for over an hour as he tried to get things sorted out. He had the above two suggestions. He couldn't get ANYONE to confirm or deny that WM 5.0 is being developed for the Verizon i830.
Does anyone have contact information for Verizon Wireless Corporate? I know you folks have been trying to do this for over 6 months (closer to a year), but I've got a little bit of time that I might be able to donate to this effort.
My contact at Verizon said it WAS coming, and now he hasn't heard an update in over a month, and is checking, I will let you know what he says...

I've read this Thread's flirtation with despair but was encouraged by MRailing's positive comment today. This would be a huge deal for me. I'm on my third i-730 and Verizon has agreed to put me in a new phone (3 strikes & you're out) specifically listing the i-760 if it becomes available by May 28th (when my 90 day warranty on the broken refurb they sent me runs out). Whether they honor that promise is yet to be seen (I'm aware that they try to put people in an older phone like a 6700 or 700WX).
If the i-760 (or 6800) is not out by then, I need to pick an alternative. I don't use wireless but do travel to Mexico on occasion. You can switch to the North America plan for a week and then switch back when you get home. You just lose a % of your minutes at same rate plan, but don't pay roaming. I took my i-700 to Cabo and...no such luck it was all GSM. Has anyone used their i-830 on a GSM network in Mexico or does it only work on European GSM? All things being equal, I might then take an i-830 with WM5 over another i-730. There may be an added bonus of not having the no sound/lockup problem that I had with this third phone (not with the previous two).
Verizon i830 is Vodaphone locked. So if in Mexico they have Vodaphone, then you will be able to use it.
I am still waiting on information from my buddy, and will let you know when I get contacted.

Nothing yet. I'm sending letters to Verizon Wireless, the Better Business Bureau, and the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights.
I did talk to a technical rep at Verizon who could find no reference to a WM5 or WM6 upgrade for the I830. He didn't want to say that it wasn't going to happen, but he thought it was unlikely.
we barely got wm5 (and the i830 still doesnt) so do you honestly beleive we would get wm6??? that will never happen especially since the i760 is coming with wm6 they would have no reason to upgrade a 2 yr old unit...
I would assume not... I have not been able to find out anything from Ethan as of late. Verizon has made him tight lipped about anything, saying that they are cracking down on information being leaked...
I will ask again, but if it hasn't come yet, then it's probably not going to arrive...

This doesn't necessarily mean anything but I've been talking to Samsung techs and they seem to have some agreement that several weeks after their WM6 device, i760, comes out, that the other devices will get WM6 as well. Maybe they've been putting it off to just get WM6 on the devices and make it right.......????? Perhaps?????? Very positive and hopeful yes..
I am heading to France & London this Friday. I was really hoping to get an i830 and throw in a GSM card to make calls on, but I really wanted to make sure I would be able to upgrade it to WM5 before making a jump like this. I have loved my i730 for over 2 years now...and now I'm elligible for NE2.
Has anyone tried the Verizon Wireless Overseas Rental program?
I don't think I'm going to get the 760 as it doesn't look like it's as good a form factor. I don't like the way the keyboard slides out. I am sad to see them doing away with the verticle slide. It also looks like it'll either be bigger, or has a smaller screen.

Great discussions of the i760 in the i760 forum. The screen size is the same, and the device is just about the same size, but without the antenna. So the overall size will be smaller than the i730, and much thinner.
Verizon overseas rental is pretty good but expensive. I signed up with Mobal Communications and purchased my own phone.
You can buy the phone for like $49 or $99, pay by the minute and it's unlocked, so you can always by a pre-paid GSM card while in the other countries as well. I don't travel much in other countries but when I do, this is a good way to do it...
