Official Windows Mobile 5 Upgrade Available for Download!

With only a small amount of guesswork I have discovered the link for the official WM5 upgrade, which some people are apparently hungering for on this forum!

http://download.vzwshop.com/vzw/samsungos/Samsung_i730_WM5_Upgrade.exe

I installed this on my 730 (YE05 WM2003) this afternoon without a single problem. I imagine this is the final release but Verizon is holding off on making an official announcement for some unknown reason. Anyways, enjoy!

(MRAILING EDIT - Please leave positive feedback for peej...

Here is a thread for Common Questions/Answers:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73071

The "official" WM5 update disables tethering, so if you do it and want to tether, you will have to downgrade the radio to YH25 after you upgrade. Read the common questions thread for more information on this.

- END MRAILING EDIT)

Angry Downgrade SD WM5 before Official install

Will not directly install over SD WM5. Claims to be a newer build than the installer's version.

Attempting to downgrade to WM2003 from the "Maintenance Upgrade" released earlier in the week and will then try again.

I was able to upgrade the phone image on my YE05 to YH25 using the SD WM5 upgrade instructions and the image included in the VZ updater. This would probably work for the phone portion in the official WM5 download if you want to keep the SD ROM image.

Update: The official image is not readable by the PSTLite app we currently have. It reports that the image is damaged. May need a different plugin or application to bypass the VZW installer.

Link?

I too cannot access the link. I am on a business grade comcast cable modem in MA. I am running the SDWM5 as well, so I guess this isn't a huge thing since I can't install it anyways. So there is no release info, you just figured out the link based on other releases?

Here is what the installer pukes out with:

Image file is 'i730WM5.2.6V.ZB21.img'
ActiveSync version found is 4.2.4855.0
Operating system has been qualified as Windows XP (Home or Professional) SP2 or greater
Current operating system is supported for upgrade
Current ActiveSync version is supported for upgrade
Found '1896' available megabytes on the disk
System disk contains enough free space
Your login has the necessary privleges on this computer to continue
The computer connected to this device has sufficient power or is connected to external power
Local machine is qualified for upgrade
Attempting to connect to device
Device version is 'S:i730WM5.2.6V.ZB21.14928'
The device operating system version is greater than or equal to what is provided in this update

This is for those ppl already runnign SDWM5, I am sure those people running WM2003 it will work fine.

I've been watching this forum for months hoping to see the official WM5 arrive. I was about to fall asleep on the couch, but decided to quickly fire up my laptop and check this forum one more time. I just downloaded the file, and I'm heading upstairs to try to install it on my phone. I am still on 2003, so we'll see what happens!!!!!

Will it be possible to upgrade the radio at some point? Or is it time to get that fault SD card reader fixed?

I really can't believe this thing is available to download, but verizon hasn't mentioned a thing. Crazy!

So, do we do the YH25 "downground" to do the WM5 "Upgrade" for us SD WM5 folks?

That's the big question: Can we even downgrade? I think SD was waiting to get his hand on the .dll that talked to the new bootloader. Assuming this file is availble we should be able to downgrade. Or people may just start having problems with their i730's. I personally am very very happy with my SDWM5, like MR has pointed out numerous times, almost all the issues have been addressed, and it is a streamlined OS. I am curious what the radio stack does for us, and what WM2003 users can tell us about the "Official" version.

The suspense is killing me....

It is installing as we speak... "Erasing Flash..." on the device... and "Installing new PDA image" on the PC.
