I have read the dormant mode thread and have searched for auto disconnect but I can't figure out if these solutions apply to my problem. I want the data connection to disconnect when the application that forced the connection ends. Two examples would be if I am browsing using PIE and I close it I would want the connection to close on it's own. Also if I have email check for mail every 15min I would like for it to close the data connection when it logs off. Would someone please explain how to do this.
I have upgraded to SD WM5 and have tried the registry hack
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
it has "SuspendResume" and "CacheTime" keys.
where suspendResume = GRPR_bye_if_device_off but it doesn't end the connection when the email finishes.
Would SD dialparser.dll be a solution and if so does it work on WM5?
This was specifically made for what you want, and for WM5.

Michael thanks for getting me to the right thread. I can't find anything in a book index either. Nothing is ever listed under the topic I would choose. I still don't know what dialparser means LOL I would have called it auto disconnect util.
I agree with the substance of the comment above though I would be more direct.
I think that some of the more technologically gifted among us, take it for granted that there are those of us who are not from that world that struggle to understand some of the terms concepts and inner operations of the 730.
Having said that I should also say that I have a great deal of respect, and gratitude for their pioneering efforts with this unit. This forum has been a huge source of learning and enlightenment for me since I entered with my pre 2003 I700.
Over the years I have learned a great deal but there is so much more that I do not know and understand and at times am embarrassed to post a query if I can not find it in a search, which most of the time I can.
Speaking for myself I had no freaking idea, nor did I get a better idea of what a dial parser was by reading the post.
Be that as it may I would have called it an auto disconnect too, if that is what it really is!

I was answering this question:

You ask if SD's dialparser.dll would work on WM5, that thread I posted as the WM5 dialparser fix, which cures your disconnect problem.

I thought that someone besides SD had hacked the dialparser.dll to make the backlight stay on after placing a call (under WM2003SE). So, if my memory is correct, it seems like dialparser.dll does more than just determine when the data connection is disconnected. Am I confusing dialparser.dll with a different .dll?

I don't want anyone especially mrailing to think I am ungrateful for their help. I am extremely gratefully. I would not have known to search for dialparser in a search and I still don't fully understand what it does. I know that SD replaces the dll with one of his own etc. etc. etc. With all that said let me post this because it did not solve my problem.
I installed SuperDave's dialparser using the cab file per his instructions. Reset the phone. I start PIE and the data connects using #777, I then browsed a couple of websites, I then close PIE using WisBar Advanced close button. PIE is not listed as a running app. so it is not minimized. The data connection does not close. I thought that once I closed PIE the data connection would disconnect on its own. I have unlimited data so it is not a matter of money but having the data always on seems to drain the battery at a much faster rate. Am I missing something? I can hit the phone disconnect key and the data connection will close but I am trying to set up email to check every 15 min and close the connection without user intervention.
I think the title of the thread explains it all: Auto Disconnect. I think I want the same thing that cpfuller wants, and that is a complete "chop" from the data network until another app requests a connection again. I only check my email once an hour, so I really do not want to stay connected the other 59 minutes, wasting battery life.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

I found that the registry hack worked great for when the phone connects by itself to sync using active sync. (for AUDT or scheduled) When it finished sync it shuts down the connection. But when I initiate the connection manually, such as PIE, and then shut down PIE the connection does not automatically terminate. I have not found a way around this yet so I just hit the red button twice and it has become a habit so it is very quick.
Way back when I first got the i730 I did some research and some testing with different programs and found this solution made for non-CDMA phones, and found that those reg changes did the trick. I was surprised to see it worked also with WM5.

Hey axman,
Have you had any trouble sending email from your phone since you made these changes?
Not at all. I used it for around a month using SMS AUTD and email worked perfectly. Since Superdave made the new dialparser I went back to AKU2 Push so data needs to stay connected now...
Incidentally, it uses a lot more battery and more instability.. but I get so many emails that SMS push wasn't the best answer.
