Attached is Autostep i730.2, a stepping utility in response to the "Something is seriously wrong..." thread. That issue is confirmed.
You can install the app one of 3 ways.
1. Download the Autostep.zip file, extract the Autostep.exe and copy it to your windows/startup to auto run at startup or any other folder and manually launch it.
2. Download the AutoStepSetup.zip file, extract the AutoStepSetup.exe file and run it on your pc. Then follow on screen directions.
3. Download the autostep_cab.zip file extract the autostep.cab file and copy it to any folder on your phone and run it. Then follow on screen directions.
Both options 2 and 3 will install the app to your windows/startup folder. You will then need to soft-reset to have it load the app. Also for options 1 and 2 you can leave the setting at install to device when prompted on your phone. That option is ignored and the app is always installed to /windows/startup. The app is only 11kb, so there should be no space concerns.
After soft reset (or launching the app twice) open the AutoStep shortcut in Programs to adjust settings. The actual app is still installed to windows/startup. The shortcut will just take you to settings. There is no more icon on the today screen. Whatever speed you last selected will be saved and reset after program restart (soft-reset) or power off/on. Setting a wakeup speed is optional and will set the value to that speed at wakeup. Usefull for setting your speed high while running a demanding app, but, then having it reset to a lower speed after you power off/on to conserve battery.
Your system will always power down to a lower speed when you power off (suspend/sleep). The app then resets that speed to a higher speed when you power back on (wake up).
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Current BUGS:
Power off/on to 520 mode sometimes causes the phone to hang. Seems to be related to BP.
The lockup in 520 may be related to Beta Player. It seems I only get the lockup from off/on to set 520 mode when I have BP open. I also see a lockup when in 520 mode and exiting BP.
I have not ever seen a hang in 416 mode coming from off/on. I think it maybe related too BP, I do not see the hang when coming from off/on without it loaded. I was using it for testing, so that is why I saw it so much in 520 mode at first. I would try it out, see how it works for you.
One question... If I set it to 416 and leave the speed program running, when i power off (suspend), does it auto-scale down to 206 and jump back to 416 when powered on? or does it stay at 416 while in suspend?
EDIT EDIT EDIT
Just tested this with BP. Set the speed to 416. Opened BP. Powered device off. Powered On and quickly checked the speed BP reported... "206".
Waited 2 seconds and checked it again... it was 416 !!!!
This is unbelievable!!! While the device is off it autoscales to 206 to save battery, and then autoscales back up to 416 (or whatever) when u power on!!
Super Dave.... SUPER!

If you set your speed to anything above 208, when you power off it will scale down to preserve battery. When you power back up, the app will reset you to the higher value.
I edited the post with my paypal link, please do not feel obligated. I just posted it because I get alot of requests.
where should this go in my startup fol
der or does it matter and why does get speed always register the same do I have to run thus everytime I unsleep the device?
Don't put the program in Startup, put a SHORTCUT to it in startup. This way if there is a problem, you can delete the shortcut and reboot.
So put it someplace in Main Memory or SafeStore, do a Click & Hold on it and choose Copy. Then in Startup, Click & Hold and choose "Paste Shortcut". This will make a shortcut to it, and keep you from the potential loop...

Need help setting up your i730/i830 or other WM2003/WM5 Phone, as well as the other hacks I have done, check out the MRailing Guides and Links
We no longer require Verizon's version of the WM5 as great now since we have a fully working version of our own.
Basically WM5 upgrades for all other PDA Devices cost ~30-40 dollars and we got it for free weeks before the official one was out. SD and MRrailing deserve a HUGE thanks for their hard work.
What should the readings look like when you press get speed? mine say the following :
current speed - 33554832
CLKCFG - 9 - Power - 0
but strangely enough when I set it to 520 nothing changes, but TCPMP registers it as 520. Thanks for the great work. When you say it must remain open, to exit the program if we select tools and then exit, will this suffice to keep it open or can we also hit the x and have it remain open?? Thanks again for the hard work and clarification.

I absolutely could not agree more. The word "outstanding" cannot even begin to explain all the effort put into this little device.
$30-$40?? Really. I thought it was going to be free. Even other company gives out their O/S upgrades for their devices (i.e. 6700 for Sprint).
Verizon=Scum
Thanks guys!

Probably a stupid question, but I need to clarify. When I go a reset it runs and show on the screen:
SDSoft Autostep i730.1 (crappyui)
If I close this app it does not run in the background correct? Do I need to use minimize it and keep it running?
Can you write it to run hidden or something like that? Maybe equivalent to running in the sys tray?
