Yes, this would be great. I just trained myself to use the calendar key as the start menu button. I'd rather use the context menu button for this like I did on WM2003SE.
Dont worry Mark, no one will answer this one!
I asked the same question in another thread and you could hear a pin drop!
I want to know the same thing - i want to set it up like i had with 03. Although... I have gotten used to the calendar key doing the same thing.
in the settings menu, click on buttons, then set the calendar button to 'start'. It is almost as good as having it the right way! i am used to that setup now. I went thru EVERY single file I think looking for the right one in the Soft Key app to make the context button pop the start menu but to no avail...
1. Unzip and copy the file (StartMenu.exe) to your device. I copied it to My Device folder.
2. Then I used SoftKeyApplet to map the left softkey to SD's StartMenu.exe
3. Soft Reset the device.
SoftKeyApplet:
1. Down Load SoftKeyApplet. 2. Unzip it and copy to the \WINDOWS folder. Then go look for it SETTINGS->SYSTEM

I don't get it... Don't you NEED the left soft key to make selections?? If this is now your Windows button, don't you lose that important function of WM5 ( one-handed operation)? Am I missing something? Mark can you explain why I would want or need to cange the way the left soft key functions?
Thanks,
Jeff

This will only effect the functionality of the soft key for the Today Screen. Once you get into an application it will revert to the application's softkey.
I don't need my stylus anymore! ......well almost. I find that I stop myself from reaching for it. lol

Thanks guys. This is amazing! I am incredibly impressed by all the ways we can tweak these phones.
Wife thinks I love my i730 more than her. Maybe she's right??
Nahhh!
Jeff
How do you guys suspend your phone with WM5. I have '03SE and have mapped the suspend function to the same button you guys use for the left soft key. It is much easier tapping that button then fiddling with the side power button. I used to use pocket plus by having the suspend icon on the today screen, but would have to go back to the today screen to turn it off.
I was hoping I could map the suspend button to this key when I upgrade, but it looks like it will not work that way.
with wm5 you get a lot more choices of what you can do with the buttons. most of the buttons can now have short presses and long presses so you can have 2 different functions with one button. i hope that helps...
Now if only I could get this to work with Wisbar 2. Right now, startmenu.exe launches the built-in startmenu and not WA2's cascading start menu. We keep getting closer and I'm having fun. Thanks to all.
To clarify...does the startmenu app assign the blue nav-pad button to the start menu, or the upper left soft-key (default calendar button)? If it assigns the left soft key, does it change the 'calendar' label to 'Start Menu' on the touch screen? If it's the latter I'm all over it.
Edit: for dummies like me...the SoftKey app allows you to assign a different application to your soft keys and change the label above the keys from default 'Calendar' and 'Contacts' labels.
Follow Mark's instructions (note that if you installed MRailings toolpack you already have the SoftKey app)...when you open the app from Settings/System, tap '...' next to 'Name: ' and navigate to where you placed SD's StartMenu app. Change the name, click OK, then reset.
Great addition! Thanks SD--and Mark for the instructions.

nav-pad - no.
you can assign it to either softkey (left or right).
You make make the label be anyting you want. I have mine label set to "Start".
