Aol

AOL UK version is not working on WM5 and i730.

There is no way to login in.

Agile Messenger is working on a release for WM5

Agile Messenger WM5.0 Alpha Release --- Bug Checking Build

This sounds like it could be promising.....if it remains a free service.

Don't know about the i730, but Verichat works on WM5. Not the cheapest solution, though.

Yeah I ran into the same problem and AOL IM came in real handy when I traveled. After two days of searching and trying out a buch of junk utilities I have found a replacement that looks and works better then the AOL IM 2.0 plus you can also connect to Yahoo, MSN and Google from one program.

This is a Alpha but so far it is solid as hell....

Downloaded this earlier today.

I only have a AIM account. I have not tried ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, XMPP, or Google. As per the XDA forums, I don't think Google works very well. Here are my results:

The good:

Send/Receive
Sending IMs is a snap. It easy to do and AM does a grab job of 'tabbing' multiple converstations. AM is extremely one-handed friendly. You will find out that you almost never need a stylus.

Here is the best part, I can receive IMs when my phone is asleep. You just have to make sure that you have AM activated. Still testing this to identify any bugs/issues.

Today Screen
There is a Today Screen plugin that informs you if AM is running, how many contacts you have online and how many unread messages. It does not take up a lot of space and it a useful feature. You can also launch AM by selecting the plugin.

When AM is not in focus, new messages generates a popout message (WM5 style) that you can acklowedge with the bottom buttons.

Online Status
There are 5 status choices available: Available, Away, Not Available, Invisible, Offline. When you go offline/online, your contacts will see that immediately. Away status are apparently not sent.

The bad (bugs):

Contacts
Having issues adding/deleting contacts from my Buddy List and moving them around in the groups. Also, I cannot see any of my contacts that are offline.

Away Message
There is no away message that can be configured and your contacts will not see your status changed unless you go offline.

Registering more than one screenname
There is no configuration setup to register with a different screen name once you have it setup. I had to delete my AIM account and add it back in to use a different screen name.

Reporting Bugs
AM is requesting bugs be sent to bugs_reports@agilemobile.com as they will not monitor any public forums.

Having issues with my PC seeing my phone at the moment so I cannot upload any screenshots. The websites screenshots appears to be from a smartphone.

I use IM+, which works great with WM5. I have had no issues. I know it's not free, but it works great and you don't have to do any special workarounds for it.

agile hosed my device

Just a note... I have alot of software on my device (about 18 applications total) but Agile for WM5 Alpha hosed my device.

Slingplayer is no longer recognized as a "certified application" and does not run at all.

Everythig is so SLOW

NCP Vpn client is also hosed in the same way Sling player is.

SPB Pocket Plus doesnt really work for the today screen tabs and only some of the shortcuts work.

I am restoring from backup now (SPB Backup) and will see how it is. It could be a conflict with something installed.. or it could be the alpha build but my device has been smooth for the last couple days.

call me stupid

Call me stupid but I decided to try the beta. Although the Alpha release hosed my device, the beta is running great. I have logged into the two chats I use, being AIM, and MSN and am going to test Google in a while.

So go ahead and try it... I am very happy with it so far. I will keep you updated as to how it runs over the next few days.

the alpha locked up my wm5 multiple times - so i took it off and everything is back to normal. I think i'll try the beta though, it seemed like an all around good program.

Did you uninstall the alpha first or just installed the beta on top of it ?

so does this keep the data connection open all the time? won't this just smash the battery life? I would really only want this if I could just leave it running.

Installled the beta version on top of the alpha. The install is smart enough to delete the alpha first. So far, so good.

I only use AIM. From reading the XDA thread, many users were complaining about Google when using the alpha build.

Apparently they did resolve it with beta version.

Overall, AM works well. I receive all of my IMs. Also, the one-handed use is great. You don't need the stylus with this app.

However, I think its still very buggy. Either PA or AM keeps locking up my phone. Unfortunately, I need to use both so I have just been putting up with it.

Mark, that is the same URL that theotheragentm posted earlier ... and I thought they release another beta ...

Which actually brings up another point. It does not appear that they are marking their beta version with a version number. Its going to be hard to know when there is a new update.

Sorry about the URL posting.
I didn't see his posting.

It doesn't bother me too much as this version works fine on my device.
