i never had this problem with wm2003se or with SD WM5.... until i did the palm treo speed dial install.... so lately i just have to go into the registry and make the change from 1 to 0... sigh... all these little nuances with this phone lately has seriously made me reconsider getting a razr. i love this phone, but man, these little nuances are making it seem like 99% pda and 1% phone, and even that 1% is debateable.
John,
I am sorry you have a hard time with this phone.
I have upgraded to SD WM5 and I am not having the problems you are experiencing.
It really isn't the device but may be just the way you have your device setup and maybe the area (towers) in your area with the voice mail issue.
Good luck with the razr my wife loves hers.

I had this problem crop up shortly after I did the SD WM5 upgrade (see my previous post in this thread) while I was in my home area of Phoenix. I followed the instructions (also in this thread) to edit the registry, and that fixed the problem then. This past weekend, I was at Disneyland, and the problem cropped up again, this time showing 2 unheard voice mails. After calling voicemail a couple of times, which did not remove the voice mail notification, I finally edited the registry key. So, I'm not sure whether it truly is the towers, a phone setting, or glitch in the phone software. It is pretty annoying, though.

all i know is that before getting the i730 i had been with VZW/Airtouch since 1996 and through all the phones I have used, i had never seen the voicemail notificiation problem. i never even experienced it with my i730 w/ wm2003se and i did my share of reg tweaks with it.
now all of a sudden in the past few days it started with my i730 SD WM5 and that was after about 2 weeks of it working fine.
i seriously believe it is a problem with the phone or OS and possibly how it communicates with VZW. no one else in our firm with other VZW phones has this problem.
I also had the phantom VM notification. I was told by VZW that they upgraded their VM over the weekend and that it had nothing to do with my phone. They told me to use a different phone and send myself a voicemail, mark it urgent and send it. After I get the notification, I should go into my 730, go to VM, listen to the message, then delete it. I did that and all was fine. They also reset my VM because I found I was not getting immediate notification of messages. They explained that was due to their VM upgrade and the reset fixed that as well. My phone is great now.
BTW, the same thing happened to my daughter's Moto E815 so I suspect that this had little or nothing to do with the upgrade.

hey, I never hads the phantom voicemail problemm before I did the sd wm5 upgrade. is there any fix for this yet? I've already called verizon amd did everything they tried. I am now thinking this is def an OS issue.
This thread has a few different solutions to try including a registry change, start with reading from step one and see if you can get it to go away with one of the suggestions here.

I haven't had the phantom VM icon in weeks. However, last week I had the opposite problem. Apparently someone left me a voicemail and it didn't register for over a week. I got another voicemail later that did show up, causing me to call VM and I was surprised to find that I had two VM messages. Since I soft reset the phone a few times during the week with the unseen voicemail, I suspect this was a problem on VZ's end.
Anyone getting voicemail notifications and when you dial in there is no message on the system?
I smell a hard resent tomorrow morning/
Actually, this is a Verizon issue as opposed to a phone issue. I have just began encountering this problem again with my i730. I have had this occur with every single phone that I've purchased with VZW. It never seems to last more than 2 days at best, but 3 years ago this persisted for 2 weeks. I've had mostly LG's (8100, 8000, 6000) before the i730, and while the were all great phones, none were exempt from the phantom voicemail. Some of the fixes previously listed have worked in resolving the problem, but it's really a roll of the dice sometimes. Don't try calling VZW on this, they have no clue. In store tech support has been clueless in the past-- even denying this was a problem. One supervisor that I spoke to actually admitted this to being a "glitch in the system" but that's the best I ever got.
I had it all weekend and it is finally gone... I think what I did was check all my new messages, go through all my saved messages and save them again, and then press what ever number the voice mail menu says to end the voice mail call. But than again I am unsure that was what cured it.
Well just got it again, I think this is a prank my phone likes to play on me every once and a while on the weekends. I clicked on the phonealarm icon listened to my saved voice mails by pressing 1 and then saved each one by pressing 9 and then I ended the call by pressing *.
Just haven't had time to throw it together. I will when I get a chance...

I agree it is related to a bug in the system, we all seem to have the problem at the same times and I have seen a clear pattern for NY & NJ. Since WM5 my phone handles voicemails better other than the phantoms of course. It seems to check after a soft reset for exisiting voicemails where 2003 would remove the voicemail upon a reset. Considering how often 2003 locked up I have forgotten about voicemails until a new one was received and 2 would appeared. So I think it a combination of how WM5 handles voicemail and a reoccuring glitch in VZW's system, likely on a regional basis. We are clearly seeing the worst of it in the North East.
I have read a lot of threads about problems with the RAZR V3C on Verizon and Voicemail indicators. Many of them suggest turning off EVDO and it fixes the issue with slow voicemails and stuck indicators.
Those of you with problems are you in an EVDO area?
If so, try the **HYBRID (provided you aren't using SD's dialparser) and switch to 1x and see if that fixes the issue.
I am curious to see what happens.

For the first time with my i730 I got the phantom notification icon. Right after I upgraded to WM5 I got two quick voicemails. The icon kept indicating 2 voicemails even after I deleted them (I still have more than 2 vmx's saved on my phone). The icon has lasted for 3 days, with or without vmx's. I read the post about leaving myself a msg and than, when picking it up hitting ** to quit. That seemed to clear it up for me also (so far). I'll let you know if it comes back. On the subject of delayed notification - it happens to me from time to time. It's not repeatable and I don't recall anything that "creates" the problem. I agree with a previous post that this is a Verizon issue that I have learned to live with. This sucks, but what can you do?
At least this seems to be my situation. If I have a voicemail notification on my phone prior to a backup then the voicemail stays even after i check it. I think this is due to the VZW system only deletes the notification right after checking voicemail, if you actually have one. The phone thinks there is still one waiting because it didn't get reset. That's why it goes away if you leave yourself one or get one soon there after. That probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But it sounds right in my head. I'll try to better word it. But for now, try to figure that out.
I've been running the somewhat official verzion of WM5 since the day that it wasn't officially released. I experienced the phantom voice mail indicator issue for the first time this past weekend. I tried leaving myself an urgent message and then clearing it but that did not work until I did it a second time. Still considering whether a stuck vm indicator is better than no indicator...
