None of the threads deal specifically with the exchange push portion of the WM5 upgrade so I thought I would start it.
It seems the push sync is working for some and not others. According to the information I have found the requirements for it to work are simply Exchange 2003 with SP2 and a WM5 device with the MSFP / AKU2 installed. Note that you must enable sync via http(s) on the exchange server but it seems to be enabled by default. Also, there is mention of firewalls causing problems if they drop the https session which is supposed to remain open; MS recommends a minimum session timeout of 15 minutes.
I have everything set as is recommended and I cannot get the push sync to work. I have a Linksys WRT54G V2.2 running Sveasoft Talisman 1.0.5 firmware with NAT forwarding https(443) to my exchange server. Manual and scheduled syncs work fine but push does not. I have the YE05 phone version. My guess is that the YH25 phone version is required for push sync to function properly.
If you have attempted to get push sync working can you please post your experience? Please let us know if its working, what type of firewall/router configuration you're using, and what phone version you are running. In WM5 the phone version is easy to find under Settings > Version.
Smoothwall firewall (port forwarding of 443 to Exc FE box)
Exchange 2003 sp2 Front end/Back end config
SD-WM5 (YH25 device)
Configured Active Sync on the I730 with all pertinant information, and set schedule to always.
Push works perfectly.
I sent an email test from my GMail account to my Exchange account, within 15 seconds of sending, I was being notified on my I730 that a new message has arrived.
One thing to note - currently I am in an EVDO area, so always on is a non-issue. Go home where there is no EVDO and all calls go straight to voice mail. That is an issue, so, I switch my schedule to manual in order to prohibit syncing and getting people sent to voicemail.
eSmith,
I do not think it is working. We have exchange, sp2 and two of my coworkers have the 6700 with sprint with the new update and the push works great for them. I turned off the smtp/txt alert on exchange and did a test. I did not receive an email on my wm5 i703, however they still received email via push. Once I re-enabled the smtp/txt alert option, I resumed getting email on my i730. When the 6700 was upgraded on sprint, it upgraded the radio interface and the phone as well, giving the user an option of turning off the push option on the device. We are missing this option on the i730 right now, but will probably see it with the official release.
On a side note, my email comes a lot faster now with wm5, but it's not push yet. It was so fast I initially thought it was push.
Exchange 2003 with SP2 behind a Cisco PIX firewall.
WM5 I730 (thanks again to those who made this possile!), YH05
We don't have our firewall set up to allow exchange web, mainly because the need just wasn't there before this. While we make sure we make the right changes to the PIX, I'm going in through our Cisco VPN to hit the Exchange server (this will change tonight or tomorrow when I open up the PIX a little more). I set up my VPN in connections, then in the exceptions area I set the name of my exchange server to always go through the VPN.
Running it this way, push works great for me, no issues at all. So I can confirm that Push can and does work with YH05.

CRCs Reality,
Is your SMTP/TXT alert option enabled on exchange? If so, then this could be sending an sms and simulating push, as it seemed to me at first. Let me know if you can.

I disabled both the SMTP/SMS options without restarting the Exchange service and emails kept flowing. I then disabled both the SMTP/SMS options and the HTTP(s) option without restarting the Exchange service and my emails still kept coming in.
Are you having to restart the Exchange server for the options to take?
Push is definitly working. I even confirmed things further by enforcing a security policy on the device and it was sent to the I730 informing me that a new security policy needed to be installed on my phone. Here is a screen shot of the config on my exchange server. I am receiving mail perfectly.
When I removed the "SMTP and Text" settings, I added some security settings at the same time. I did NOT restart Exchange or any services, and the Security settings where pushed to the device, so, I felt that was enough of a confirmation that I did not have to restart anything for items in this dialog box to have take effect.
I am thinking that the problem has some relation to the phone version - can you take the time to post your phone versions and whether or not the push is working for you?
If you know for sure if the phone version is a problem (or not) please let us know!
CRCs Reality - you posted that you are using YH05 - I thought there were only two versions, YE05 and YH25. Am I wrong?
I may have spoke to soon, now it semas that I am not getting mail after I receive one message. May be the fact that I am using verizon sync also(home email).
I am now thinking that it is not working (push with exchange). It maybe that I am getting email via verizon sync and it forces a manual sync with exchange.
Well, I am getting mail perfectly within almost seconds of recieving mail. The text messaging is turned off in my config (pictured above). So, dont know what to say ...
I am happy .. I am getting mail much faster than ever before.
