My only complaint with my i730 has been the unreliable wi-fi. (Sometimes sees my router, sometimes doesn't, sometimes says it's got a weak signal even when I'm 2 ft. away, etc.) Can anyone tell yet if there's a significant improvement with WM5?
I have a linksys WAP54G with no encryption, hidden ssid and no problems. same thing with a wrt54g using wrt-dd 2.3 firmware and no problems. But then again iI never had problems to begin with.
For me at least its improved. I used to be able to see the access point but when I'd choose connect it sometimes would, sometimes wouldn't. I had to soft reset alot and use 3rd party programs to connect. Now it seems that all i have to do is turn on wifi and i can see right on the home screen, connecting...then the name of the Acess point after im connected.
Hope that helps, ive never had the signal strength issue you described so i cant speak on that.
Edit:
Also the wifi software version is now 1.1 instead of 1.0...

I seem to have a problem with the wifi radio cycling. It appears that it only occurs when there is only a weak single but it will turn itself off and then back on and will continue doing so until I do a soft reset. (If I turn it on somewhere where I know there is a strong signal, it does not happen.)
For those of you seeing the WiFi problem with the Radio going away. Try loading my MRailing Phone Tools Cab file. I found a registry hack that should restart WiFi after a sleep mode has occured. I loaded the hack in to the CAB file.

I added my profile for the linksys router in my house. After turning wifi on though, it moves from available - to connecting - to unavalable - to off - to dissapearing altogether (no wifi card present). I was really hoping these problems were over. I think there's a switch that if you have a single 3rd party app - the wifi doesnt work.
I'm currently running -
PocketWeather
Resco Pocket Radio
mrailing cab
spb pocket plus
wifi fofum
agile messenger
microsoft .net CF 2.0

any of these known to conflict?
Make sure you are using the today screen application to turn on WIFI. Do not use the control panel connection application to turn on and off wifi. After a soft reset it will say that it is on in the control panel application. Leave that alone. You should see the WIFI icon back on the today screen. Turn it on and you should have no problem. I have a WRT54g and WAP54g connect to them without a hitch.
Go to either of those (which ever has the Parms in it, I can't remember, I think WLAN1):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\WLAN\Parms
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\WLAN1\Parms You'll find a DWORD value named ResetOnResume. The value is set to '1' by default. If you set it to 0, the WiFi signal will turn on automatically when you power on your device. Remember to soft reset after doing the registry change.

for some reason it really isn't on from a soft reboot although it says it is. however if you turn it off there it completely removes it. there is another thread on this topic I suggest you look for it. it has all the conditions of when and why it disappears. they are currently looking into it. it does seem that it is a cosmetic problem.
so im guessing i cant connect to my wifi network w/wpa security? i tried and the thing kept on saying connecting, then available, then disappeared completely like some others had mentioned before.

I use WPA for my WAP, no problems at all connecting. It all comes down to what WPA security settings you have.

Anyone else seeing this?
Lottoj, did you ever resolve this? I am having the same problem. The registry entry in this thread made not difference. The darn things keeps cycling, as you described.
