SD WM5 and Pocket Plus - Slowness?

Seems after installing 3.1 my device appears to be slugish. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

I have loaded the following apps on my device after the upgrade.

Voice Command
Olive Tree Bible Reader
Pocket Plus

and a couple games

All in Holdem
Valentin Chess

Guess I am going to wack them all, soft reset and install one at a time again, using the device for a while in between applications.

Anyone else?

I think my slow down is phoneAlarm, but I am going to Hard Reset again and see what I can do about narrowing it down. I also have Pocket Plus on there, and everything was working fine with it when I was using it without PA.

Ok, hard reset complete - going to just configure phone and syncs without any other software installation and run with it for a few hours, and go from there.

Please report back your results. I'm resisting the urge to reinstall all my software, and I really miss the functionality of Pocket Plus, especially the ability to really close programs.

The lack of having Sprite makes me hesitant to go willy-nilly re-installing my programs. I'm afraid that if I install a program that causes a problem, I'll end up having to start all over again, including doing a hard reset. Consequently, for now, the only thing I've installed is eWallet Professional 4.1 because I can't live without having my multitude of passwords and software registration codes with me at all times.

If you and/or Michael report back that Pocket Plus seems stable (and not slowing down your systems), that will probably be the next program I try out.

Thanks!

Jay

I got my first slowdown - almost to the point of a lockup - requiring a soft reset after installing Pocket Plus. I turned off the today plugin to see if that's the problem.

Will do, going to install it in the next hour or so. Trying to get a feel or a baseline of sorts of the device with no software installed at all. Only settings I have changed on the device are power, and other small settings and configured to sync with my Exchange server (cant live without my contacts).

I will keep you posted - I dont mind a few hard resets during the day to figure out the best software to have on my device. Like you, I sure do miss Pocket Plus (and Voice Command - could never get used to Voice Signal).

Same situation here. I noticed a dramatic slow down when I loaded Pocket Plus. Interestingly enough, it only really slows down now whenever I change something about the today plugin. If I add a shortcut and it has to refresh the today screen it takes 1-2 minutes to do so.

I don't use the today plugin for Pocket Plus, only like it for the close feature, zip feature, IE features, battery, etc.

To me it seems having "anything" on the today screen slows it down...

Agreed. PhoneAlarm slowed my phone too much, it's off for now. Maybe I'll install directly to the Root next time.

The latest beta (1.4.02?) for PhoneAlarm has a setting to optimize if to WM5. Don't know if it helps much; but I've checked it.

I also had lockups with phonealarm (solid green LED) and the default Notifications. It took awhile for the default system notifications settings to come up; but I turned off anything that PhoneAlarm will notify me of.

Hopefully this will run faster; and more stable.

Just curious, what is your reasoning for this.
Is installing everything in safestore a bad idea now?(WM5)

Glad you saw the other thread. They are both from the same type of memory. Still "Device" or "Root" is like Main Memory, and I would install everything there. SafeStore is like another partition, and it's not affected by a hard reset. So this would be the place to store all of you backup files, extra notes, etc. This WON'T be affected by anything you do with the phone, except for an erase of safestore in the settings area.

So I would install everything to root/device, and not worry about SafeStore, except as another storage area.

put Pocket Plus back on the phone, no difference. I am starting to believe after using this thing for a complete day stock, out of the box with nothing else installed, that the overall speed of this thing is slower (slightly) opening apps or contacts is a little more sluggish. So, I am going to run with Pocket Plus on there for a while and see if there is any drastric difference.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see what you think of Pocket Plus' impact. If I'm bored enough at work tomorrow (looking for a diversion, I might take the plunge with Pocket Plus).

Thanks,

Jay

Ok, I'm seeing something really weird with Pocket Plus, and I've tried 2 hard resets to confirm this. USB tethering works great before pocket plus is installed. As soon as I install Pocket plus, USB tethering becomes unstable (it keeps disconnecting, phone locks up and has to be soft reset, etc). Hard reset --> USB tethering works fine again. Install Pocket Plus --> USB tethering unstable again. Am I losing my mind here?

Do you have the today screen plugin of Pocket Plus in use? I will test this later and see if it bothers my tether, but I use all of Pocket Plus, just not the Today Plugin.

Pocket Plus on the Today screen slows this thing down. Sometimes even appears to lock up for a little while. Took it off my Today screen and no more speed/mini-lock up issues.

So, it sounds like so far the verdict is that it's safe to use Pocket Plus for features such as really closing (exiting) programs, but it's best not to have it on the Today screen. Is this correct?

Does anyone know whether iLauncher slows down the upgraded i730?

Jay
