SD WM5 - All A2DP Questions

I don't see it. I tried adding my BlueTake stereo bluetooth headphones and it doesn't show up when I partner with the phones from the phone. Sorry, but no A2DP profile is listed, just hands free device. Anyone else try A2DP yet?

I noticed under the Bluetooth version it lists 1.1 support.

There are WM5 devices with the A2DP profile that use the Microsoft Bluetooth stack. I'm sure either official or not we will have A2DP profile on our phones! Especially if superdave adds a paypal button!

Yeah, but wouldn't those profiles show up when partnering with an A2DP device? Or maybe there is some secret trick to make it show up???

Well the way I understand it is when a device is in bluetooth discovery, if it finds a device it will then query it for supported profiles. Once that is received it will match the supported profiles against whats available via the installed bluetooth stack, so while a stereo headset that has a2dp support will show options for headset and wireless stereo the phone will only recognize what it can understand which is the headset profile so that will be the only option displayed.

Right, so that would lead me to believe that the phone doesn't support it. Maybe on the official release....

I'd put money on the official version having less features then this version (like no Data Connection, for example). VZW has no profit motive for adding a2dp, and they've shown repeatedly that they don't do anything simply for good customer relations. I hope they prove me wrong.

Headset Profile

Try starting Windows Media Player and playing a media file then go to bluetooth settings and press refresh services on the device stereo headset and it should show a headset profile. I just don't know how to activate it once it detects the headset profile.

Tried this, but, NG. My Motorola HT820's only show up as Hands-Free. Not Stereo Headsets. On another thing, no major to me, WMP will not play MP3 files that are on the SD card. If I move them to SafeStore, it will play them. Just an annoyance more than anything else. I'll most likely be using TCMP.

Didn't WM5 install a new bluetooth stack? If so, it seems like A2DP should be "hack-able" given the hacking prowess of people on this forum.

That is exactly what I'm thinking, just port over part of the profiles from another WM5 A2DP enabled device.

After the WM5 update and paring my Moto HT820, I only saw it as a Hands Free device, but I then went to the Bluetooth partnership settings for the device and hit refresh a few times and a “Headset” checkbox showed up under Hands Free. I checked it in addition to Hands Free, but no luck with media player.

The closest I get is that when enabling the headset with media player going, I hear the music for a moment while Voice Signal kicks off. The audio does sound better than before, so it may indeed be stereo, but I can’t get the headset to stay on.

Regards,

I'm sure that's just the handsfree profile audio that you hear. You can still use the BT Audio Toggle hack to get the same effect. I installed it on mine and it works with WM5. No stereo though.

Good to know that the BT Audio Toggle hack still works. That was my next step. Funny thing is that the profile icon didn't change to a headset even when I only had headset selected. It's frustrating that it's there, but not working

XDA Developers A2DP for All!

Who knows how to cook a ROM? Check out XDA Developers, they have isolated the files that are needed for A2DP but apparently they have to be merged into the ROM image.

From my talk with a level 2 tech at samsung, he seemed to state that it has more and is better than the beta. That they took into consideration what people stated on here and with their testers, and seemed to fix the things that needed fixing and added what they wanted to it. I don't remember him saying anything about bluetooth stereo capabillities, but mayby Ill call him tomorrow and bug him about that Is there anything else you/anyone else wants me to ask him?

I have heard from the person in friendly user testing, stereo bluetooth WON'T be available in the final release, which means it's not available in this release.
