Over in the unofficial upgrade rumblings thread there was talk about Wireless Active Sync. going away in WM5. Sorry, I have been somewhat out of the loop, but what is the deal? I always disliked the way Notes would not sync except via a cable connection. So if we upgrade to WM5, we are not going to be able to do ANY type of wireless sync? That really stinks! Aybody know the reason behind this?

Is is a M$ "solution" or VZW "feature"?
Its an M$ issue. You can do OTA sync, but not Network based.

OTA = Over the Air (as in, wireless active sync via your cellular technology - 1xRtt or EVDO)
Not 802.11 (wireless - WiFi)
Just thought I would try to make it clear for the not so geeky crowd.
accurate, as far as it goes, but missing the crucial distinction . . .
OTA using the "wireless sync" client found in the phone's ROM = using cellular network, AND putting your address book, emails, etc on VERIZON'S SERVERS
"network sync" = wifi OR evdo OR 1xRtt to sync with your own exchange server, or your own PC, never having to share data with verizon's servers
Are you saying that the new Push Technology goes away if you are using Exchange SP2 - That uses Active Sync built into the PDA and Mobile Services built into Exchange

thats not what i'm saying at all, [i don't know the answer to your question]
what i'm syaing is that active sync 3.x allows one to use the internet [evdo or Rtt] or wifi as a substitute for the cable, your computer thinks your phone is "cradled" next to your PC when "network syncing", even if you are using the internet and you are on the other side of the country. and if active sync is used for something else [in my case vindigo and data drivers from bloomberg terminal] that will work across the country too
"wireless sync" puts your outlook data on verizon's servers, and only syncs outlook
When I try to set up my pc monitor it gives me the error that it can not open default MS outlook folders. My IT guy has no idea and verizon is well you know useless. Any one?

i tried to setup my exchange server with no luck. I have all of the settings from the IT guy but can't get it to work. I don't know what to do. How would i update my SSL cert? keeps giving me the same error about it not being there.
I had this same issue, actually I was working and then had this same issue. I work for a large company, and we are remote from the actual exchange server. My initial setup worked fine, and then it stopped working. What changed? I had turned off my SecuRemote client, because I didn't think it was needed since I was on our corporate wired network. However, I then started seeing errors like yours. Once I turned my VPN back on (while still connected to our corp network....not intuitive), then I was able to properly acccess the drives and the error went away.
May not work in your case, but it might. There were quite a few google hits on this as well, but none of those fixed my problem.
Okay. Well, the root cause is that your client can't access that drive, which is not normally needed for Outlook access. My advice would be to ask your helpdesk to focus on permissions
Searching for the MAPI_.... might help. Here is one mentioned for a blackberry:
Cause
There is an invalid homeMTA entry in the Active Directory environment.
Resolution
The homeMTA property contains the complete domain name of the Message Transfer Agent (MTA). See Microsoft Knowledge Base article 199964 for instructions on verifying and correcting homeMTA information.
OK, now I'm really confused. I do not use Verizon's wireless sync. Instead, I use 1and1.com as my ASP Exchange server, and can currently sync with it in the cradle using ActiveSync 3.7, or by the i730 ActiveSync client using EVDO/1XRTT or WiFi. According to your definition of "network sync" I cannot use any of these to sync in WM5 with ActiveSync 4.1. Is this the case? I know that WM5 will push information, but what does it use to do this?
Might be a little confusing now, but I merged to two Wireless Sync threads, just trying to keep these all moving forward and the information in one place...

If there is an issue with the Certificate, you can try this as a work around to ensure it is only a certificate import issue and nothing else.
Open Active Sync on the I730
Click Menu at the bottom right
Select Options
Click Settings
Unselect the box "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection"
If you can sync this way with your Exchange server, then all is well. You will only need to get the Cert onto your device.
WARNING: Keep in mind, this will send your username/password clear text. So, this should only be used to test settings and Exchange settings.
well my IT guys says he does not know what cert it would be. I cannot access without SSL and he said it is enabled for wireless sync. He has no clue what to do next we are running es2003. I guess i am sol.
