SD WM5 - Bluetooth Problems and Questions

I am happy to report that I now have about 15 ft. range instead of 2 ft. with my Flamingo headset. The crackling is gone!

Haven't tried my Sony 662, but my Plantronics Discover 640 is working much better.

Motorola H700:

Looks like I am getting alot better distance as well.

I used to have issues after 4 feet from my phone. Now I can easily go about 15 feet line of sight and 6-8 feet through a wall.

Will do the drive test tomorrow.

Hope this is on-topic here . . .

I can't seem to be able to sync over bluetooth (I always did it this way on WM2003SE). I can pair the i730 with my computer just fine, but when I try to sync via bluetooth, I get a message that there are no PCs in range which have services supporting active sync.

Any idea how to get this working?

David

That's what I'm doing (and have always done to sync this way). The problem is that the device is not recognizing any active sync services on the PC.

Motorola IHF-1000 connection problems fixed

The various problems connecting the Motorola IHF-1000 Hands Free Car Kit seem to have been fixed.

I have not thoroughly tested it yet, but it appears at first glance that:

1) The phone now auto-connects when you start your car ignition. This is the big one. It means you can get in your car, start it up and the phone will automatically connect without you having to take it out of your pocket. Excellent!

2) You can now voice dial using Voice Signal (you still can't use Voice Command). While the "Voice Tag" feature (of the IHF-1000) used to let you dial using Voice Signal, for some reason all audio would be lost when the phone call was made, rendering this feature somewhat less useful. This appears to be fixed, You can now call using your contacts in your phone. Yes!

These were my two big complaints and they appear to have been fixed with WM5.

Try this....

Davpel,

I was having the same problem last night. If you have paired your laptop with the i730 before trying to activesync, it will give you this problem.

Delete the pairing partership via the bluetooth settings menu. Go to activesync and start the bluetooth syncing process again (Settings, Sync via bluetooth). When it asks you about a computer pairing and takes you to the bluetooth pairing menu, repair your laptop. It should now give you the option of "Activesync" on the bluetooth profiles list. Check that box and you should be good to go.

At least, that is how it worked for me...

Thanks Tim. Actually, I just got it solved a minute ago a slightly different way. I did a soft reset on the i730 and a reboot of my PC. Then I went into ActiveSync "Connection Settings" on the PC and checked the "Allow Connections to One of the Following" and highlighted my Bluetooth Com port (which in my case was 6). Then in Bluetooth settings on the i730, I refreshed the available PC services and the AS service suddenly, finally appeared. Everything is now good to go!

more on bluetooth hands free profile/moto ihf-1000

In addition to the other fixes to the HF Profile to make it work with the ihf-1000, I have noticed that the audio quality (particularly microphone input) has gone from terrible to excellent. It used to be that people could barely understand what I was saying. With WM5, people can hear me more clearly than if I were talking into the phone itself.

I don't know if this is an HFP or general fix, but it makes the hands free kit usable. Also, it improves the Voice Signal recognition as VS gets clearer input. It used to not be able to recognize my commands if the car was started. It is now excellent.

Yes!

I finally hooked it up. Yes both the 662 and the 640 work well. I would say an improvement in both clarity and distance. Also the 640 doesn't exhibit any of the behavior it did with the random disconnects like it did with 2003...

Caller ID still works the same on the 662...

My bluetooth headset works horribly with this build on the 730. I get crackles, pops and general static..especially going across the body.

Don't have these issues with this headset and other phones. Anyone else having issues with static and crackling on the headset?

I have always had crackles and pops with my headset, especially going across the body. I have noticed that WM5 has helped "some", but not a full out better jump. I still think bluetooth headset tech, has a long way to go...

Also it depends on the headset, some work better with the i730 than others. The Discovery 640 and the Sony 662 both seem to work better with WM5 than they did with WM2003, but those are the only two I have been using recently.

I was really hoping the upgrade with help this a bit. The same Headset (Logitech Mobile Freedom) work great with the Treo 700w. No crackling..etc.

Seems like the bluetooth stack on the 730 needs some improvement...heck if Palm could figure it out, I am sure Samsung can.

Its disappointing, The 730 with WM5 if very nice...but something as basic as clear communication is just one of those things you cannot do without.

thanks for the reply though Michael. You have done amazing work with SD on this. KUDOS!!!

Well wait until the official release, as it still might fix some problems. Remember the Radio portion, as well as some other areas haven't been updated yet...

Smile Motorola HS850

My Motorola HS850 is working much better now. Distance is better and when I flip the boom mic out it will now answer the call. That feature never worked with WM2003SE. Thanks SD!

I'm also having problems with my logitec freedom headset. Worked "ok" under 2003 but is horrible under WM5 (still won't turn back through). I have paired them up but when I press a button to initiate a call, voice signal starts up on the phone, but I get no audio on the headset unless I fiddle around with the buttons. And once I get it working, I get much more static than before. Here's hoping that the official release will fix this, or I guess I'll be in the market for a new headset. Guess things aren't all bad. As my wife always reminds me... "One upgrade leads to another."
