I'm suddenly getting an error when I try to sync my Inbox through ActiveSync with my work Exchange Server. When I go to Options | Server and try to check the Inbox, I get a popup saying, "Configuration Failure - Unable to preserve the data on the device. It will be replaced during the next sync." followed by another popup that states, "Unable to remove old data from the device. Please wait a minute and try again," after which it unchecks the Inbox. When I try to Send/Receive from the Inbox (instead of Synchronizing from ActiveSync), I get an error message saying, "Synchronization failed. Try again, and if this condition persists, please reset your device. Error code: 0x80004005."
Needless to say I have hard reset several times. I have also Googled that error and searched this site for it, and it seems other people are having the same problem, but no one has posted a resolution. Is the Inbox suddenly corrupted? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much.
[EDIT] One other note -- Calendar and Contacts are sync'ing fine, so I have no idea why Inbox isn't. [/EDIT]
Unfortunately I've done a few hard resets with no luck. Is this a known bug? Is there any way to reinstall ActiveSync and/or Inbox on the device? Anyone have any idea what may have been corrupted (registry setting, etc.)?
Any help would be much appreciated, since it seems odd that this issue would require a replacement device (but it looks like that's where I'm going). Thank you.
We get these errors on the units at my company from time to time. Normally it's a corrupted email causing ActiveSync to fail. Try moving email out of your Inbox and see if it goes away.
Try looking strickly at messages with attachments, and move them first, this is what normally mucks mine up.

I'm having the same problem. So I deleted all my email on the device. But there is one message that I cannot delete, move, view, forward or anything. This message seems to be the problem, but I don't know what to do about it.
