I have searched this topic and have not found any real specific answer to this question.
Is there an adapter or something that I can use (if I buy the i730) with an external display?
Here is why I ask. I spend alot of time on the road. This is one of the major reasons I use my Blackberry now and am debating on switching to the I730.
I was currently planning to build a "car pc" for my vehicle. That is why I was looking for a device (like the i730) that I could use as a modem for Verizon's EDVO network. My research led me to the i730. I have seen the specifics on the I730 and think that it will manage as a car pc. I do not want huge storgae (yet), mostly surfing the net, loggin into my work databases, and finally email.
In the design of the "car pc" I am looking at a few headunits with a touchscreen. When I saw the i730, I immediately had the idea that if I could connect the i730 to an external touchscreen, I would no longer need to build the "Car pc". Typing could be done on screen or via a bluetooth keyboard.
So I ask, is there an adapter or something I could use to connect an external display (touchscreen) to the I730?
I would not be "driving" and searching the internet; I would pull over.
No external displays available. But you can control the i730 from a PC with remote connection software. So if you built your Car PC you could still hookup your i730 and control it from the touchscreen.
Here is a thread someone else asked about external displays, with the same answer:

Sounds like what you need is a Tablet PC with a Wireless PC Card: Verizon Wireless PC 5740.
Granted, the data plan with this one is $15 per month more, but the initial cost of the card is only a hundred bucks. You can run the thing for a couple of years for the $400 to $600 difference in price for the i730.

I had a wireless PC card before. It was very helpful when I carried my labtop around with me everywhere. I just see the need to have the labtop with me at all times. If I use the card with a "car PC", then I would be stuck have to be in my car or in the office. The i730 with external touch screen would suite my mobile life style better, actually it would be perfect.
Imagine connecting it to a "cradle" to charge in the vehicle while using a touchscreen to operate it completely.
If I could find a solution, I would get a I730 right now. i would deal with any email questions (from my other post) later on,
I feel your pain autocrave but for a different reason. I think an external monitor for the i730 would be a SPECTACULAR idea. I hold a couple patents but none in hardware only in process design, nor do I have any aspirations. I pick my fights where I can win them and hardware is not my forte.
That being said, I have a specific question for you Mrailing. Would it not be possible to have a bluetooth keyboard/monitor combinaton? Nothing fancy but maybe a fold-up design with a 5 or 7 inch monitor. Any bigger and the i730's 240x320 display setting would look really jacked up when projected onto a larger screen.
I mean hey, laptops can hook up to external keyboards and monitors so why not the i730 too? I mean I already have a stowaway keyboard but a stowaway monitor... now thats my dream when I am sitting at Starbucks.
Hey yo, I don't mean to pontificate but we all know where convergence is going. Maybe in three years we will all be posting in the Samsung i1130 forum about our 1Ghz WM6 Smartphones with 16-32GB's of Flash memory that easily serve as complete desktop replacements. It would not be an extension to your computer, IT WOULD BE your computer that you would take with you wherever you go and simply plug it into a waiting bluetooth keyboard and monitor combo. I am sure the bandwidth on the bluetooth spectrum is there, now all we need is the brains.

For years Margi has been making products which allow you to project your Pocket PC disply via a vga connection -- this might work well for you. Unfortunately it wil use your SD card slot to do it so you will sacrifice storage.

Leemee belive me I have searched all over the internet and I have not been able to find a bluetooth touchscreen monitor.
Well let me see, back about mid 2004 jpmihalk (one of the mods here) purchased the margi "sd" version and talked about it in the i700 forum -- he is a tech guy in health care, and acquired one for "testing" in his work environment. You might want to pm him to see if you can acquire it from him if he still has it and isn't using it.
In fact, a casual search of the term "margi" across all of the pdaphome forums brings up several hits -- searching these threads you might find another margi owner willing to part with it. http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...der=descending
Alternatively, this shows the Margi PocketPC to VGA cable as the "last in stock"
You would need to find/create an adapter to go from the bottom port of the i730 to the Margi cable. Here is a company that made a serial cable for the i700 (pinout is the same as the i730) maybe you could talk to them about creating an adapter that will allow the two cables to fit together, or if you had the pinout specs for the margi, you could possibly hardwire the two cables together (also notice the ability to add a car charger to this cable to supply power to the i730)
Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth for video transfer, so a monitor would be out of the question. Bluetooth is used for simple data transfer, and only has a maximum transfer of 723 Kbps in a perfectly ideal situation with no interferance and no overhead for communication. This is way to slow for transmitting any type of video for a real time monitor connection. If you did get it to transfer video, you would have some overhead for the actual communication side, which would reduce the speed, and even if some type of interface was written, the lag of the display would make you want to try something else.
My personal suggestion is to look into some of the micro PCs and Linux options. You will want a PC that can Suspend to the hard drive so you can have an "instant" on feel. It will still take about 15 seconds to come fully back, but you could have your programs open ready for you, instead of waiting for a boot to happen. I did some research a while back on putting a computer in my vehicle, but got turned off by it, and instead bought a Pioneer AVIC-N2, and my iPod. I have 60 GBs of music, navigation, DVD playback, audio inputs, video inputs, etc. I can always connect my laptop to it if I wanted to, but the 14.1" screen on my laptop is bigger than the 6 inch screen on the N2. I found that the stuff I really wanted to do, the N2 could do it, and if I needed to get online to check e-mail or the web, I could always just pull out my i730.

I found this link last week. You may already know about this, and it's not exactly what you are looking for, but very cool nonetheless. I just realized it uses compact flash and not SD, though.
KVM extender allows you to extend PS2 keyboard, PS2 mouse and VGA video remotely up to 1000 feet away from a computer. KVM extenders are ideal for applications like public broadcasting, banks, classrooms, tradeshows, and other mission critical locations.
Everyone is completely wrong (sorry for the obviously highly negative comment).
Go out and buy a Garmin Nuvi 360 (maybe works); or Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS (definately works - highly recommended - $350 on ebay). They both have Bluetooth connectivity to the phone for dialing, and hands free talking, and address book. They both can read an SD data card to play music, while the 660 can push music via built in FM broadcast device.
I recommend you look for a used "Cappuccino" mini-pc on ebay or some other source. I got mine on ebay for $150 and it runs XP. You can see them at www(dot)cappuccino(dot)com
I then got a 14" touchscreen off ebay for $150 and bought a Carnetix power supply: CarNetix CNX-P1900 <- these are awesome by the way. They will hibernate and restore the pc automatically based on your key position. As well as auto shutdown if your battery starts to drop and will not reboot if you start the engine while it is running. My PC restores in 10 seconds.
I am running RoadRunner, a free, customizable front end Interface and PDANet to use my i730 as a modem.
total cost was under $500 for a very sweet system. Getting it installed and looking professional was the hardest part!
