I just completed my first trip across multiple time zones since I got my i730. On this trip I discovered that my phone did not keep track of time automatically as I crossed time zones. My previous Palm-based smartphones did so. Is there something I'm missing in the settings that would cause the phone not to sense time zone changes? Or, like so much else that is Windows based, does this "feature" require my purchasing add-on software???
I'm not sure if I buy this logic for not automatically changing timezones. Any "dumb" phone gets its' time from the VZW network and adjusts to whatever timezone you are in. Why can't a "smart" and "expensive" phone do that? "Dumb" phones have calendars, to do lists and PIM functions.
I explained why the Microsoft Smartphone's do this in one of the other posts. It has to do with NOT knowing how the appointments were entered into your calendar. Were they in your current time zone, or are they in the visting time zone?

I know Michael, I did read it, that is why I question M$ choice of options. I could be wrong, but evidenced by the number of threads and discussion about timezone change issues as opposed to scheduling a meeting in a different timezone. The timezone change is a bigger problem. When was the last time you saw the question "how do I set an appointment in another timezone?"
The timezone change should be intuitive. A free phone does it automatically and when a $700 phone has to be told to do it, it defies logic.
M$ should provide mobile users the option of picking "cell system" time (automatic) and "pda system" time (manual).
M$ as added complexity and confusion to what should be a simple process.
I agree, the way Microsoft does time zone changes is horrible. The best solution would be to include a Time Zone Field on the Calendar creation, then you could do automatic time zone switching.
Microsoft knows it's a problem, and the whole Time Zone feature inside of Outlook is broken, and needs major overhaul. You can find at least 6 different tech articles on the time zone issues within Outlook over at Microsoft.
But since this is something we can't change, and doesn't look like it is going to be changed in WM5 (althought I haven't had a chance to see what happens in it), the only work around is to setup all appointments in your current time zone's time, and then use the visiting zone feature, and mentally note that ALL appointments are now in your current time zone.
It should be simplier, but the method above is the most simple way when traveling across MANY time zones.
