Nobody replied to the following message in the general i730 section, so perhaps those who use text messages most will have some suggestions. Sorry for the repeat.
Thanks to this fabulous forum, I was able to get the large package of messages activated along with my unlimited data plan. I don't, however, exchange many text messages with folks at present time.
Are there any services (free = best!) that will send out text messages, e.g. news updates or other topics? I definitely would not want to start getting SPAM-type garbage, but in the past I had a t-mobile Sidekick and along with the data plan there were several free options for daily or several times/week messages. Most were crap but some were useful (news headlines, general sports headlines, specific sports news, "joke of the day", trivia, etc.). I might even pay a small amount for something really great.
Or, besides texting personal contacts, what other uses for their text messages do others have?
Another user to successfully add the PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWANCE. It only took a minute or so to get the service added to my account. As everyone has added to this thread, make sure you say: PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWANCE. Also tell them that your IT person told you to call, they stop asking questions. My online account indicated the new service quickly (i.e. I checked my account online about an hour after I called and it was already there).
Yes, they will remove any other text message plan before adding this one. Don't worry about the unlimited TXT messages in network, I am pretty sure it's still active. There have been a few reports from other members that they haven't been charged for using over 2000 messages in a month. One reported over 2300 messages sent because of the Exchange server, and personal sending. He wasn't charged for any additional messages.
This doesn't mean you won't be charged for going over, but in past experiences people haven't been charged. My suggestion is to call and ask for the data support team, or use one of the data support phone numbers found in this thread and ask them about it. Tell them you just had it added, your exchange server and phone are getting synced up this week, and you were curious if this plan also included unlimited in network text messages since that is what you were used to. Then report back.

Well Ill tell you what I said.. I had to call twice, the first time they kept transferring me back and forth between CS and data support. Also they found the feature but could not add it.. I smiply said "the feature code is called "PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWA" and then I said I had a screenshot of a feature list from a friend (but really it was from a member who posted to this thread Itaylorwarren)... he couldnt add it. I hung up read some more, and one of the posts suggested that it cannot be added if you have an IN txt plan, so I called back to Data support said "I have the unlimited plan and sync with an exchange 2003 server... i need the pda allowance feature" told her it was called PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWA or PDA TXT 200 and then i suggested she remove my existing txt plan first and then apply the code and she put me on hold and she did it... she mentioned that when she applied this code it prompted her to remove any pre-existing txt plans on the account first, and I am thinking that the other reps I dealt with didn't pay attention to that. So all in all, call the data support guys, give them the two names this code goes by and tell them ur using exchange.
Me: Hi I just got a call from my IT department they are setting us up to get our emails delivered to my Samsung i730 from Exchange 2003.
they asked me to call and have the plan PDA SMS 2000 Allowance added to my plan.
THEM: Let me transfer you to Data Support
Data Support: You already have unlimited "IN" messaging
Me: The messages coming from our exchange server aren't "IN".
Data Support: No it'll work, Anything else I can assist you with today.
Me: Click!
I am going to call this afternoon and ask them to take off in and specifically ask for the PDA SMS 2000 before they do any transfer or whatever. That is basically what they have come up with each call.

Wait he said it would work? Could this be like the sprint thing where those sms' you dont get charged for? I know this was brought up earlier in the thread.. but no one in data support seems to know what an exchange server even is let alone answer that question.
That is what he said but my guess is he either is clueless or just wanted to end the call. I agree Data Support has been lackluster in performance in my experience.
