I swear the guy was definitlly ready to go home... Told him I had a PDA phone and sync to an Exchange server.
I stated there was a feature I would like to add "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance". And he did it right away. I think the weekends are probably a better time to call, people are way more lazy.
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the central reason for having this option available so that the phone could sych with a Microsoft Exchange Server? Can a phone that is Palm based have that capability?

The new palm using pocket pc 5. Wimdows mobil 5 uses diffrent technolgy along with exchange 2003 SP@ which no long uses the sms triggering it uses the new push technolgy. So they may not be giving this feature out. So we can also say we have Exchange 2003 with sp1 not sp2.
I changed my phone back to the i730 using the web site.... and after about 25 min of waiting and getting xfered to wireless data tech (866-788-9387) after CS was not able to add the feature.... the guy (he sounded very tired) confirmed that it was an available feature and he xfered me back to a CS rep who added it in about 3 min!
Having CS do it is a shoot and miss type of thing... this feature is def. hard to get added. If you happen to get a rep who knows how to do it it can be done....but you have to have an i730 with an unlimited data package. You also have to know exactly how to ask for it as they seem very leery of people asking for this specific feature. I was asked what department I worked in and why specifically I wanted the feature. I think it helps that we are a multi line corporate account....
I verified that it was added on VZW's web site that lists the features for my line.
NOW.... i will try to switch my phone back to the 700w using the web site in about 1/2 hour to see what happens...im sure something will blow up

of related interest... I picked up a data brochure when I bought my 700w earlier this week and it makes mention of the sms/autd feature specifically... here's what it says:
**when you use Microsoft's Exchange Activesync, Notify's Notifysync, or Intellisync's Intellisync incoming TXT messages. To avoid these TXT messaging charges, you will have to setup a timed synchronization.
So basically the brochure is saying to use (check mail every xx minutes) instead of using (as items arrive).
this sucks. I am paying $9.99 for 1000 txts right now.
another thing I've noticed... this is my 3rd WM5 device (universal, ppc6700, Treo) and the AUTD is unreliable. at least once per day my device stops getting email. I have done extensive testing of this feature using 3 different carriers and 3 different devices and I can confirm that each device is receiving the sms so this has to be a bug in WM5. Basically it stops firing off activesync. to fix it I usually have to do a manual sync and then it will start back working. but it's a pain because I might have an important email sitting on the server and not know about it until hours later. usually if about 3 hours go by with no email, I know that my device has probably stopped working and I perform a manual sync to start it back. Anyone else notice this or have any thoughts?
I never had this problem with any of my PPC2003 devices. AUTD worked like a champ with those devices.

They probably did this because of this thread. I'm sure ALL the people who acquired this text messaging plan are using it for email only.
****.... verizon completely butchered my bill. some idiot backdating the bill screwed everything up and i got charged 80+ dollars for texting.... spoke to some airhead and she said she'll clear it up. she ended up talking to her boss as if i was on for a free ride and she took it off without telling me. i am talking to another customer service person right now whos telling me it will all be put back on, but the system can actually distinguish exchange text messaging from personal text messaging from cell phones...... anyone know if this is true?
here's a tip... if u guys wanns implement this pda sms 2000, do NOT let those idiots mess it up.... wait till a new billing cycle starts and then implement it. backdating is too much for these idiots to comprehend

Just added it to my plan. Make sure to ask for "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance". You don't even need Data Tech Support to do it - regular old customer service will do.
