Great thead! I just called Verizon Customer Care and asked for this SMS offer and at first they only seemed to be able to find a 2500 SMS plan for $19.99. Then I told her that I was looking at a screen shot (thanks fixn278 ) of someone who had the plan and it was called "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance" and she was able to find it and change my account.
If I do NOT use Exchange Server, can I still get this 2000 SMS allotment and use it with regular text messages? Or does it somehow "know" the difference?
If it doesn't recognize the difference, why would anyone choose to pay for any of the plans if they get the 2000 for free? Is this just a quirk in the system?
After getting sooo excited and having the rep find the feature, she actually started calling other departments to make sure she was allowed to add the feature. She came back after over 5 minutes and said she was told that the package is not being offered at this time.
So no deal. She said she spoke to a number of departments including the data suport group. So for those who got the package, you are fortunate!

Well it definately depends on who you talk to.... I just called and they added it with no problem.... she did have to call the data support team to confirm it was allowed, and came back and said I was good to go......
Those of you who call and get denied, just try calling back and try again....
I just called and like ZebProctor the Verizon rep was able to update my plan without any problems. She actually did not have to call anyone, she just added the PDA SMS 2000 plan, removed my current TXT message plan and said I was good to go.
Thanks for the info on this!! Saves me $10.00 a month
Well after the new comments in this thread, I called again and after transfering to three different departments and ending in the SMS support department, they added the service without hesitation.
I assume this is for inbound messages only?
Thanks for the suggestion to add this. Very very cool!

Can anyone answer the question if it is only for incoming messages from an Exchange Server or if it is really 2000 messages in and out each month?
It's supposed to be for incoming messages from an exchange server only. I get a few non-Exchange related messages (less than 10 a month) and occassionally send a message or two a month, and they have never charged me.
I suspect it will work like the EN-MOU thing. Eventually, people will abuse it and they will start putting tighter restrictions on it or take it away. Then there will be tons of posts from people complaining they were able to send and receive for free but Verizon took it away.

agreed, I send/recieve only 10-20 messages a month, and feel this will not raise any red flags... if it does, I have no problem going back to my method of sending a message via messaging to xxxxxxxxxx@vtext.com and using my email as the reply... that way I send for free, and revieve for free.....
I thought I would also report back. Called mentioned the service and said that if they searched for "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance" they would find it. She found it, immediatley removed my current txt messaging service and added the 2000 plan, no questions, took 2 minutes total on the call.
Thanks for the information on this.
