Well, I've tried five times and had no luck. Some of the people I talked to are pretty clueless, though they usually TRIED to be helpful.
I'm friendly to them, and they are friendly in return, but.....
are you sure you're on with data services tech support?

Just keep trying, and as suggested if they can't help you, ask to be transferred to data technical support. Re-read my posts on here about a good strategy to follow when calling. I have added this to around 30 plans for my customers, many of which actually use the Exchange system that it was designed for...

So I had the same problem as most. Instead of following the directions to hang up and call back, I escalated (under the assumption that Verizon would eventually do the right thing when they were presented with all the information.) I eventually got to an Operations Manager for their Denver call center who basically told me to get stuffed, and that it was for corporations only and that it wasn't available to me. The person directly below me gave me a $35 credit towards my bill "for my trouble" and it was his opinion that that was more then generous (ignoring the two years or so I've had a smartphone + unlimited data plan ...)
So I called back again and just kept talking to the entry level call center reps, and the third one said 'no problem' once I gave her the code. I also went with my friend when she purchased a 6700, and the rep in the Verizon store added the plan without complaint--he was just surprised that the plan existed and that I knew the code for it.
Anyway, keep trying, and just remember how much Verizon sucks when it comes time to look at new phones. No company with such terrible corporate policies should be supported.

That's one reason I suggest giving them the blurb about your IT department telling you to call and requesting the 2000 plan because of your exchange server. It normally makes them look a little harder when they know you were told by someone who knows.
Glad you got it added.

Actually, I doubt the blurb would help. I'm a subcontractor for Chevron, an tol them I needed it to access my corporate email. They said that I'm on a non-corporate account therefore am not entitled, regardless of whether or not I work for one of the largest companies in the world. *shrugs*
I am glad that I finally got it though, and for all the information that is here that let me know it existed.
I called Verizon and added this feature with no problem and that it would take effect immediately. She also said that since i dont have a text messaging plan that i will be charged for ever text message and that this doesnt cover regular text messages and only through an exchange server, but i have a feeling she didnt know what she was talking about.
The main question is, If i have the "PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWANCE $0" will i be charged for regular text messages, i dont even know what exchange server is or does and never used it, do I actually have to use exchange? Has anyone successfully gotten a bill with no charges of text messages?
I send a lot of messages like 800 a month and i dont want a surprise at the end of the month telling me i was charged .15 cents a message because they were from an exchange server whatever that is. Thanks

I do use Exchange, but I also receive a lot of other text messages and have never been billed for them since adding this plan.
I virtually never SEND text messages, so I don't know if this plan covers outbound messages. Based on the reason it was offered, it should not cover outbound messages, but I doubt VZW breaks it down that way since they don't for any other plan.
They don't know what they are talking about. They can't add any other TXT message plan with the SMS 2000 allowance. All text messages are apart of the plan (as previously mentioned), and you won't be charged for ANY messages.
I send/receive around 800-1000 messages a month, and do testing with Exchange push servers using the txt message service, since some are press SP2 Exchange 2003 servers.
If you have listed on your account the PDA SMS 2000 Allowance, then you won't be charged anything for any messages...

mrailing once again u have made me a happy guy. You are a great resource to this forum. Thanks a million. quick question, if i dont have autostep installed by default wat does the i730 run at?
it's whatever you have it running at. When the device sleeps, it drops to 208, and then when it wakes, it's to what you have it set to.

MR,
Is auto stepping working on the device new out of the box? I think he wants to know what the i730 runs at out of the box without any 3 rd party stepping sw installed.

VZW, It's 2009! Time to embrace technology, not suppress it. - oops too late I've moved on over to the iPhone w/ AT$T!
By default the i730 runs at 416 Mhz after the first boot, and then the FIRST time it goes to sleep, it runs at 208 MHz and never gets any faster unless you reboot.
So you need something to increase the speed...

Thanks guys for that, i did a hard reset because my 730 was acting funny and now its running slower and i pretty sure its because i dont have the speed utility installed. thanks
hey is there any way to somehow merge the safestore memory with the storage memory so it can increase the memory of the storage memory? Cuz i can really use an additional 20 megs or whatever it is
btw what do you guys have your Autostep running at? my battery has lost a lot of its charge and does last very long does the speed of the mhz juice a lot? should i have it at 520 or 416?

No merging the memory, but you can install stuff to SafeStore and use it that way.
Read the Autostep thread. When I used it I ran it at 416 MHz.

I changed phones, i730 to 700wx (my i730 was acting up, plus I could never get the A2DP to work on the i730 it was too quirky--thanks for all the info from all the threads still no luck), and dropped my data plan for a day and with it my 2000 SMS plan. The next day I added the data package back but VZW said the PDA SMS 2000 is old and can't be added back to my plan. I spoke to 2 different "PDA tech support" associates...ha!...on 2 different days and both said they could not put the SMS 2000 back on my plan. The reason was due to the way Exchange sends the notification, through IP?, to the phone instead of through a SMS.
Anyway, I got way more free texts with the free 2000 than i did email notifications so I guess I can't complain too much. Plus I also got the $100 discount for adding back the data package! All-in-all 700wx is a good device, especially for $199, but I do miss my i730...then again I now have a 4gb SD card and A2DP that consistently works.

When I tried to get it added a couple of months back, I talked to about 5 different support people. All but one claimed they had never heard of it. The one that had heard of it said it was no longer needed. And at least two of them said they would get back to me on it, and never did.
You could tell them that your company needs it as you are using a pre-Exchange 2003 system, and you IT department said you wouldn't be upgrading for at least a year. Tell them that your current setup will use TXT messages to sync as it has in the past, and that the IP address sync is used with Exchange 2003 SP2 and later.
They might not know anything, but you can always ask for the Data Support Team (as mentioned earlier) and still try to get this added...

Went through that.
Maybe I gave up to quickly. I also gave up because I had TWO people that said they would call me back. I just never followed up.
The first time I called in I told them the code and she said "there is no such thing as free text messaging" and hung up on me! I called right back and did a better job at the "my IT manager told me to call you..." explanation and was nice and she took her time and searched and found the code and added it and apologized for the rudeness of the previous CSR.
I only send/receive 10-20 texts a month but can't stand when I get charged for one on my wife's i-600 (no data plan) for a text that she doesn't even want to receive.

You can call Verizon and ask them to put a block on text messages on that number (the one for the i600). I have a secondary line for a Moto RAZR that I carry when I don't want to carry my i730 (and want something thing and small), and I put a full block on txt messages, as I don't want to receive any on it. They did, and I don't receive any, nor can I send any...
