Whether luck or not, a great big thanks to all posting in this post. Just called & was added immediately. Also dropped by text msg per month cost. Now I can change all my work svr monitoring msgs over to this mechanism.
awesome. worked for me. first rep wasn't helpful so i just ended that call. the 2nd rep got it down for me in like 10 minutes. thanks PDAPhoneHome and everyone else here for the info! i just asked that my IT guy asked me to call and ask for "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance with a feature code of SMS2K". said it was added and i hope that's it. i'll check my account later.
edit: logged into my verizon account and under the messenging column:
PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWANCE $0
oh yeah..don't forget to dial *288 and press 2 to update your phone with the new feature.
Have to add a big THANK YOU! as well. I spent about ten minutes on the phone with the first CS rep at VZW and ended up getting the message that they didn't have an SMS2K code. Had her transfer me to Data Tech support with another long wait. They came back with the story that they couldn't add features and I had to call Business Services on a weekday.
Called back again and dialed into the WDTS department. Went through the whole scenario and they mentioned that my account had been annotated with the discussion about them not being able to do it in Technical. Told them that the IT person for the company that had recommended setting it up had emailed me telling me to call them back. After putting me on hold for 15 minutes plus, the tech came back on the line and said that he had found the features but that he couldn't activate it for me. He told me that he was going to get another person ( ie supervisor ?) to change it and would call me back when he had confirmed that it was done.
VZW tech called back about 30 minutes later saying I now had the 2000 SMS $0 activated and good to go. Whew, not all that easy but thanks to PDAPhoneHome and it's knowledgeable members.
Well, it's taken a total of about 5 or 6 calls spread out over about 2.5 months, but I finally did it.
First, I can't emphasize this enough, CALL DURING THE DAY. I did that for the first time today and was on the phone for no more than 5-10 minutes.
I explained that we just finished an Exchange 2003 upgrade, and the IT guy told us to call in and have the "PDA SMS 2000 Allowance" added to our phones (or, if we already had an SMS option, to replace the existing option with the new one)." Then, I said "from what I've been told, if you look at your account features on the web site, it shows up as PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWANCE $0."
The CS said he understood what I was asking, looked it up, found it immediately, and it is now set on my account.
No pain, no hassle, he just did it. It was a great experience.
Again, call during the day. That made all the difference in the world.

You can save a lot of brain damage by looking at this post. Adding the 2000 SMS was so painless for me because of the information here:
lol im about to call but im nervous as I have no idea of what an SMS message is lol....I guess I could always say "man i really dont know, my IT guy just gave me instructions, I am just following orders!" play dumb i guess....why am i nervous??? haha
also i dont have an exchange server but this works for just regular text messages I send my coworkers?
The funny thing is that most people who use text messaging have no idea it is the SMS technology they are using. If you use text messaging, this SMS pricing will save you money. If you do not, there is no benefit.

If you don't intend to use Exchange then you shouldn't be asking for this feature. It's not meant to give free text messaging to anyone who happens to read this thread.
But, in all seriousness, I'm wondering if this will work if you've got the pay-per-kb data plan. I don't even get an EV signal at my own home, so there's no point in paying for the unlimited.

finally bought the unlimited data package. From what I was told, the don't offer those 2000 text messages anymore? Has anyone recently tried to get this package? maybe I asked for the wrong thing?
they definitely do, I got it added on last week. I don't know it off the top of my head, but on the last page of the old thread they had a feature code (i think that's what it was called). she looked that up and added it. whole thing took under 5 minutes

I would recommend reading through the entire original thread, beginning to end. I know it's long, but it will:
Help you figure out exactly how to get the SMS2K deal
Give you a really good idea of just how bad VZW CS can be.
Once you really read the other thread, you'll have no problem.
Use this code and it will only take you 5 minutes max unless you get a total idiot, which is of course possible. If so just hang up and try another rep. It was completely painless for me.
